Raiders activate Jared Veldheer, release Tyler Wilson

The Raiders cut a quarterback Wednesday, in hopes of keeping another on his feet.

According to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times, the Raiders have activated left tackle Jared Veldheer from injured reserve/designated for return. They made room for him on the roster by waiving quarterback Tyler Wilson.

This is actually the second time the fourth-round pick has been cut this year. He cleared waivers and was placed on the practice squad the first time, before being promoted back to the 53 later. Having lost his spot in the pecking order to undrafted rookie Matt McGloin, Wilson has to be considered one of the disappointments of the draft.

Veldheer has been working in practice, but didn’t start taking the full work until last week. But they must be convinced he’s sufficiently recovered from his triceps injury to be ready to contribute tomorrow against the Cowboys, which will help whoever’s under center.
