C.J. Spiller feels like he’s getting back to his old self

Bills running back C.J. Spiller put up more than 1,700 yards of offense last season, which made plenty of people excited about what he’d do for an encore in 2013.

Unfortunately for the Bills and Spiller, it’s turned out to be more Caddyshack 2 than Godfather II. Spiller’s battled a high ankle sprain since the first month of the season, missing one game and playing at less than full strength in others on his way to six games where he’s averaged 3.3 yards per carry or less.

It is probably too late for the Bills to inject themselves into the hunt for a Wild Card berth, but Spiller had some encouraging words Wednesday about the chances of finishing strong in Buffalo. While he wouldn’t put a percentage on how good his ankle is feeling, Spiller said he’s doing much better.

“I feel good,” Spiller said, via the Bills website. “I definitely feel like I’m getting back to my old self, making the cuts, making that explosion, so just looking forward to seeing how Sunday goes.”

The Falcons defense has helped a lot of players get well this season, so we’ll see if the Bills feed Spiller to get him back on track. He’s gotten more than 13 carries just three times this season, but a return to health could bring a return to expanded workloads along with it.
