Hakeem Nicks practices, Giants hope he can play Sunday

When asked why wide receiver Hakeem Nicks missed last weekend’s game against the Cowboys after saying all week that he was going to play, Giants coach Tom Coughlin said that Nicks’ lack of practice time because of an abdominal injury kept him on the sideline.

Nicks is doing what he can to give himself a chance of playing against the Redskins on Sunday night. The wideout took part in practice on Wednesday and that opened the door to a return to the lineup if he shows he’s healthy.

“Hopefully we’re going to see,” coach Tom Coughlin said, via the New York Daily News. “That’s why he’s going to practice. Hopefully he will.”

The Giants don’t have much chance of making something of their season, but winning out is a must for any scenario that ends with postseason football. Nicks can help them accomplish that task and he can do a lot to help himself ahead of free agency by finding some semblance of his former output after a season filled with disappointments.

Who made you a mind reader? The only thing that’s clear is that Nicks will be a free agent after this season, and needs to play well the rest of the year if he wants to get good offers from the Giants or other teams.
