Josh Sitton: It’s embarrassing, the Lions smacked us

ansah AP

Packers guard Josh Sitton had harsh comments for the Lions’ coaches and defensive linemen this week, but after Green Bay lost in Detroit, Sitton acknowledged that it’s hard to talk trash when you’ve just gotten your butt kicked.

“It’s embarrassing,” Sitton said. “We got our ass beat, plain and simple. They smacked us today. There’s no doubt about it. I’ve been playing this game a long time and this is one of the worst beatings I’ve ever been a part of. Yeah, it’s embarrassing.”

Still, Sitton hasn’t changed his opinion that the Lions’ defensive linemen are “scumbags” and that Lions coach Jim Schwartz is a “dick.”

“I said what I said. I’m not taking it back. I’ve moved on from that. I’m not going to sit here and talk about it all day,” Sitton said.

Several Lions said after the game that they read and discussed Sitton’s comments before the game, but the Lions also said they were plenty motivated to beat the Packers regardless of those comments. For Detroit, taking control of the NFC North was a lot more important than making Sitton eat his words.

Don’t care who said what….Lets just lock up the north, clean up the mistakes, and get a friggin playoff win…

Suh went out of his way to lay your qb down gently for a safety. Someone should ask Sitton about that…of course it could be that Suh wanted Flynn to stay healthy.

Lol Sitton national TV caught you spitting a loogie in your beard before the game started, unfortunately for you that was the highlight of your day.

It’s embarrassing. On National TV we demonstrated that our team only has on decent player. The guy with the broken collarbone and crap mustache….

One thing Sitton can’t say about the Lions: his team can block them.

The Lions game on Thanksgiving is a sign of things to come for the Packers. Decline. Fast!

  10. sosuhme says: Nov 29, 2013 9:13 AM

Josh “turnstile” Sitton embarrassed himself, his parents, his team, and every teacher he ever had by demonstrating before this game an utter inability to communicate in a mature and thoughtful manner.

  11. ike1973 says: Nov 29, 2013 9:21 AM

I have a feeling that Josh is going to be sitton on the couch come playoff time.

  12. purpleppleeaters says: Nov 29, 2013 9:25 AM

Sitton should probably keep his trap shut, at least until Aaron Rodgers returns. Without him, the Pack is less than a mediocre team. The Lions are not Super Bowl bound. This WAS embarrassing.

This was an outright embarrassment. Worst thing I have seen since the 80s. I am finally and totally sick of MMs play calling, and DCs defensive schemes. MM keeps running up the middle, no matter what. Get a clue MM, we are sick of you and your pig headed approach. First play we swing the ball wide to Lacy for a nice gain, then don’t go wide again until the second half, unless I missed it while my eyes were painfully pressed shut.

  15. tutamus says: Nov 29, 2013 9:29 AM

It was embarrassing… Much the last 4 games with out Rodgers.

Not quite as embarrassing as going 0-16 though… So there’s that.

  16. trumb1mj says: Nov 29, 2013 9:33 AM

The Green Bay Packers are an undisciplined bunch and it starts with their blowhard head coach, Mike McCarthy. I cannot believe he condoned Sitton’s comments.

Not only did the Packers embarrass themselves yesterday but they played dirty by pushing officials, talking trash yet never backed it up.

  17. GenXJay says: Nov 29, 2013 9:34 AM

Sitton has been conditioned to say ridiculous things.
Just like the brainwashing the gb fan base has thinking cheese bay is not on a major cliff of inevitable failure for the next 100 years.

  27. banlarson says: Nov 29, 2013 9:55 AM

As a Vikings fan I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching that game. If any team needed a reality check it was the Packers…and their fans. Nice job Lions…like I have been saying…the Packers are bottom feeders without Rogers.

  29. ivanpavlov0000 says: Nov 29, 2013 10:04 AM

You can’t underestimate how much Detroit wanted to win this game because it was Thanksgiving. Since the Millen era started, this game has been a perennial embarrassment for the franchise. The fact that it was an important game against a division rival just made it even more important. Sitton’s remarks just amped them up even more.

The big question is whether the Lions can play like this outdoors in Philadelphia? And the other big question is whether they can learn how to hang onto the ball.

The brightest spot of the game for Green Bay was holding Calvin Johnson to only 101 yards and 1 TD.

  30. maraneso says: Nov 29, 2013 10:05 AM

The Packers are now just a rotten team. I’m a fan and I acknowledge this. They should have had 80s throwbacks on yesterday because they reminded me of one of Lindy Infante’s or Forrest Gregg’s teams. Forget Aaron Rodgers. Eleven preferred starters were available on defense. The O-Line was an absolute joke and this was supposedly an improving unit. Top to bottom embarrassing. Nevertheless Detroit played great as well and kudos to them. They’re our least-hated North rival…must be the big lake between the two states.

Every team can have a bad game. The Packers were terrible in this game, but it’s not an indicator of who the Packers are. They’re better than what they showed on Thanksgiving, and when their key players get healthy the Packers will once again assert their status as the cream of the NFC North crop. Count on it.

(And, of course, they’re still better than the Vikings.)

and are proving it. They just need to stop the mistakes if they want to go deep into the playoffs. I hope they do, because it is plain GB won’t be there and I’d like to see the North Division well represented.

Paging filthymanasty, whatjushapped, and tokyo sandblaster:

HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?????

Call out your leadership…….they caught lightning in a bottle in 2010…….they have, literally, one great player on your team, but even he can’t be kept upright.

Who is to say it won’t happen again????

    True fans ask for accountability……..

For my team, after witnessing the greatness of the Vikings dominate for nearly 2 decades, and still hold a sizeable lead in division championships, 18-11, over the packers, I hold our leadership accountable.

Spielman-you should be fired. Frazier is a nice guy, but NOT head coach material. Musgrave is well, Musgrave with zero ingenuity, and our DC-Williams, seems to be outmatched.

Time to clean house for the Vikings.

TT and MM aren’t going anywhere next year, but what happens if next year is like this year, with or without Rodgers????

A free pass for letting the oline and defense go to pot?

A free pass for the joke of a back-up QB mess in gbay???

If they would have won, JUST ONCE, in Rodgas absence, you guys would have a shot at the playoffs. It would be a bumpy road-WITH RODGERS.

So, if you got anything from Rodgers absence, it’s a perfect view of how unsound the rest of your team is.

Who takes the hit for that????

The “genius” should, and MM should.

It will get old very quick if similar issues arise next year, and from the looks of it, there are MANY issues to solve.

Next man up, eh, filthy, ehh tokyo, eh whatjushapped???!!!!!

Matt Flynn is who we thought he is.

  43. hartlylion13 says: Nov 29, 2013 10:32 AM

That was a royal thrashing yesterday. Finally, the Lions put it to an inferior team and close it out leaving no doubt.
However, I must admit, at the half I was thinking to myself, wow, total domination by the Lions so far but only up by 7. I have seen this game before and I already know how it will end. Lions will lose. Whoever gave the halftime speech should get the game ball because they came out in that second and throttled the packers. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
On another note – I have noticed zero talk about the terrible officiating against the Lions once again though.
    1. The defenseless receiver penalty against Levy? What was that? That was a clean, perfectly placed and timed TACKLE. That’s exactly how kids should be taught to hit, head up, lead with shoulder, but of course, Lions = penalty.
    2. What about the uncalled facemask by the packers on the Ross big return late. I saw it happen, saw the flag and was saying he has a free run, penalty on the packers. But, then again, it’s the Lions. Penalty called for holding against the Lions and brought the return back. Amazing. Then they show the replay and my entire house broke out into laughter due to the clear facemask by packer not holding by Lions. Thankfully, the game was over and we could laugh instead of lose our minds because it could have been a game changing call.
    3. And not a single hold call against the packers all day? Really? Wow.

  44. muskyhunter2542 says: Nov 29, 2013 10:34 AM

It makes me laugh how so many of you fans of other NFC North teams are so quick to right of the Green Bay Packers. You are so quick to say that they are in decline when the fact is is that they have lost more games this year for starters than any other team in the NFL by quite a large margin. Take away the fact that they have also lost one of if not the best player in all of football. This team is not in decline it’s just not healthy. I know most teams in the NFL are not healthy right now however they didn’t lose Aaron Rodgers. You will see next year a team that will dominate the rest of the north in the Green Bay Packers… That’s a fact!!

  45. trannesotabiqueens says: Nov 29, 2013 10:36 AM

Look at the vultures. The titan’s of the North stumble, and we have a whole laundry list scrubs posting on the page. We have the ever prevalent “I’m a packer fan and we stink” which is basically, “I’m a Viking fan and our season has been a disappoint so I have to pretend to be a Packer fan to get my jollies off.” We have the regular Vikings fans, who are just down right delusional for talking when their team is an embarrassment to the NFL. The occasional bears fan. The poor, poor, Lions fan, that knows deep down inside that if it wasn’t for the packers having 6 starters on IR, and Rodgers not playing, they’d be fighting for second place. I don’t like talking smack to the Lions fans, I feel sorry for them. They honestly deserve a “gimme” first place in the North. That’s basically what it is, because we all know if Cutler and Rodgers are healthy, there’s no shot the Lions would be even sniffing first place. The packers indeed got spanked BAD. Haven’t seen our oline get dominated like that since the fail mary game. The lions tried so hard in the first half to give the game away, but the packers are honestly running on 45% at the most. Enjoy it, Detroit. For once, you deserve it … kinda. Just don’t blow it, you’re only a couple games ahead.

  46. hartlylion13 says: Nov 29, 2013 10:43 AM

Also, stop with the flexing the games on Thanksgiving out of Detroit and Dallas. They pretty much own them. Was listening to Gil Brandt the other day, he explained that when the NFL wanted to start the tradition, no one wanted to play on Thanksgiving. The Lions jumped at it since they were recently moved into Detroit from Ohio but said, it’s ours and we get it forever. It will never leave Detroit. Same with the Cowboys when the NFL wanted a second game, no one wanted it, the Cowboys took it with the condition that it is theirs forever. Done.

  47. orangepeanut28 says: Nov 29, 2013 10:44 AM

Tokyo, we have been a dominant force in the division, for the better of 50 years……we have not have 25 years of sucking, like the pack from 1968-1983. In fact during that time, your team won exactly ONE division title.

The “dominance” you speak of is a joke, as I assume you were born sometime in the Favre era, and have zero to no clue about the dominance we had during that time, winning 10/11 championships. YES, the division was a joke for us, because we dominated it. I actually thought the packers were one of the worst teams I have ever seen. the Bears were awful, the Lions as well.

That is the past, and still owning the division in titles does nothing for our team this year.

Slow down on the self-proclamations……you are embarrassing yourself.

You obviously know very little about division rivalries and true division records.

In case you doubt it, check any NFL records site, Wikepedia, or hey, even an encyclopedia….that’s an actual BOOK, tokyo.

All those sources will sate that the Vikings have 18 division titles to the packers 11, to the bears 10, to Tampa’s 3, and to Detroit’s woeful 3.

For the most part, the Packers have avoided the image of a trash talking team. Sitton is the outlier, normally McCarthy controls his teams and what Sitton said is plain stupid.

In many ways, I’m happy that the pay back came on the field of play so Sitton has some time to think about it and look at the tape of the game. I would be shocked if Sitton (or any other Packer) makes that same mistake again.

Obviously, the two teams that will finish at the bottom of the NFC North are the Vikings and the Packers. The biggest difference is the Packers will get a ton of players back off of IR next year while the Vikings will hope to finally draft a franchise Qb or more likely, draft the 2014 version of Ryan Leaf.

  53. isphet71 says: Nov 29, 2013 11:15 AM

I wish I could help help Packer fans in their moment of need.

What most folks (outside of the world’s largest cheese emporium) don’t realize is that Packer fans aren’t football fans, they’re cult members.

Yesterday the face of grim reality peeked over the horizon of Lake Michigan. Today the Grim Bay faithful are binding their wounds and doing their best to deny reality.

Fortunately denying reality is a skill the Packer faithful have honed to a fine edge.

Before this week is over one of the multiple screen named Pack animals will begin talking about this year’s super bowl as a realistic possibility and then using another screen name, agree with himself.

Packer fans embrace the suck, or as it’s known in MN: reality!

I have faith in the Packers. I have faith that they will turn things around, get to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. I try really hard to sound as if the criticisms of my beloved club don’t bother me, but down deep I feel let down by my Packers. I yearn for days when their play on the field won’t create the heartache I feel that is so much like how I felt as a child when other kids took my lunch money and gave me wedgies in gym class. Please Packers – the memories are too painful.

This had zilch to do with Sutton and everything to do with Mcarths play calling;two runs and a pass, two runs and a pass. sun said after the game they knew what the packers would do on offense, practiced for it and were well prepared. on a side note people get all over Ponder but he was chosen for his brain and being able to run a complicated of fence. no two runs and a pass in the Vikings scheme, either. just McCarthy.

I like cruising around PFT, seeing the division rivalries etc. You get a good idea of the fan bases.

Most of the negative Packers comments seem to be coming from teams’ fans OTHER THAN Lions fans. That, to me, shows two things: 1) Just how dominant the Packers have been since the early 90s. Everybody hates ‘em because they’re generally looking up at them; and 2) The Lions fans don’t want to talk a ton of trash because they know it was a win against a Rodgers-less team.

I general, Packers fans have been gracious in this defeat, likely because they know they have an ace-in-the-hole (Rodgers).

However, the NFC North should be PRAYING the Lions win a playoff game this year. If they do, that will likely keep Schwartz around, and prevent them from reaching their potential.

With sound, disciplined coaching, this may be the best team in this division. Imagine this team coached by Dungy or Lovie…

Sitton, much like the packer fans, needs to just take this beating and shut up about it. In fact, just shut up for the rest of the season.

As soon as you and the rest of the fans of the worst team in the division do the same.

    No?

Thought not. Enjoy having only 2 wins.

Shhh there there, your team sucks real bad right now but you can’t accept it. You couldn’t even win your Super Bowl against the Vikings, ouch. Just sit back and enjoy your crappy existence of a team. Hey, did you camp out at the walmart overnight? Is that why we didn’t hear from you after the lions game?

  69. granadafan says: Nov 29, 2013 1:38 PM

So where are the Rodgers haters who claimed ignorantly thst Rodgers is overrated and that he runs a “system”? They make their claim just because Flynn had one good game a few years ago. Just admit that Rodgers is an elite QB.

Lol, more Vikings fans post on packers articles thank they do Vikings articles.

    Why?

The Vikings aren’t relevant. They have never been relevant, and they won’t be relevant for some time.

The Packers got embarrassed yesterday. The Vikings have been embarrassing for almost 6 decades.

Again, we are better than you, in pretty much every single way.

    Enjoy your Black Friday shopping!

I knew I couldn’t get through these comments without some packer fans talking about all the players on IR. EVERY team has players on IR. The wisconsin media has let you down. Before the bengals game the papers were prefacing the game with all their injuries. Then on CBS they listed the injuries on both teams. Bengals had more. Rodgers is an injury worth discussing. These other fringe players always be talked about with a number of injuries are not. Without Rodgers the packers are a dumpster fire burning out of control. Also as always every story packer fans commenting about the vikings. I guess its easier to discuss than what the Lions did to your team.37 unanswered points.

Dont worry about Packer fans in February. You and every other NFC North fan will be looking at the same little black and white TV saying “I thought with the Packers out, that we’d have a chance this year”. Lions are going nowhere this year- the Packers just arrived first. Enjoy it now.

  80. tyrobjenkins says: Nov 29, 2013 2:44 PM

Poor Packers fans are so spoiled. You never had a problem talking trash all the years Detroit didn’t have a competent qb, or when you beat them with an injured Stafford. I won’t ask how it feels because I know all too well.

  81. tokyosandblaster says: Nov 29, 2013 2:47 PM

I don’t know what kind of a world has Randall Cobb, Jermichael Finley, and Brian Bulaga as fringe player, but I’m guessing it a world in which Harry potter is real, and you’re enlisting people for your quest to destroy the one ring, after you watch the hunger games, live.

Here’s the thing. Rodgers is at least a top 3 QB.

Take away manning from the broncos, what happens? Take away Brady and what happens? Brees?

None of those teams would win a game right now. Well, maybe the patriots beat the bills… But literally that’s it.

@leatherface, it was bad. Not nearly as good as winning the Super Bowl 4 times and 13 total championships.

How do you like it when your team wins the Super Bowl?

@bblaster, pretending you’ve been to Italy is about as weird as making up a screen name to try and irk someone clearly smarter than you.

But I recommend actually going to Italy. Absolutely beautiful.

Also, being original has it’s upside.

Like my fellow Packer fans, I wish to graciously congratulate Lions fan on their big win yesterday, and their split of the season series. They were clearly the better team yesterday, and I wish them well in their pursuit of a Lombardi trophy.

There is a certain inner peace that comes with knowing that your team has already won far more than it’s fair share of World Championships, and I suspect that it doesn’t hurt knowing that we are far closer than most to our next Lombardi. In the meantime, fans of other teams can watch and admire the grace and class with which we handle ourselves as a fan base.

  92. Mr. Wright 212 says: Nov 29, 2013 7:05 PM

No sense in bringing up past titles. That’s for losers. If I did that every time we lose to the Eagles or Redskins, I would be insane. Unlike Dallas, who truly got lucky against my guys both times this season (8 turnovers???) and barely won both games, the Lions could have scored 60+ yesterday. Just congratulate them, move on and hope that Rodgers is ready to play next week.

  93. thetruthcampaign says: Nov 29, 2013 8:11 PM

Thanks Pack fans. You know we need a trophy bad for everyone in Detroit and this state. Detroit has been through a lot and needs something great to happen.

I know it benefits your NFC North franchises to keep the Lions down indefinitely, but we gotta a get a trophy.

Unless your a packer nut job – everyone in the NFL and across America knows that the packers are not going to win without rogers/elite QB. Green Bay doesn’t have a great defense but your absolutely crazy to think that they can stop a team for 3/4 of a game because your own offense can’t move a ball and you just came off an OT game that beat the hel l out of you.
