Lance Dunbar needs surgery, expected to miss rest of season

As quickly as running back Lance Dunbar made an impact on the Cowboys offense, he’s been taken out of the lineup.

An MRI on Dunbar’s left knee revealed that he suffered a posterior lateral corner injury that will need to be surgically repaired. The Cowboys believe he will miss the rest of the season, although it’s not clear if they’ll be putting him on injured reserve or holding out hope that he might be able to get back at some point in the postseason.

It’s tough timing for Dunbar, who finally got an extended look in the backfield after injuries got in the way of other opportunities this year. He ran for 82 yards in Thursday’s victory over the Raiders and the Cowboys got 145 yards between him and DeMarco Murray for one of their best days on the ground all season.

Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner will be in line for work behind Dunbar while he’s out of the lineup. If they’re able to replicate Dunbar’s efforts, the Cowboys’ chances of advancing to the playoffs will be looking pretty good.

As an Chip Kelly / Eagles fan I do have to say that Dallas has had more then their fare share of injuries to overcome. They seem to be doing a nice job in overcoming adversity. Credit to them.

If you really want to locate a loser, come to any post on PFT about the Cowboys. The trolls that post will make the biggest loser feel better about themselves.

Yeah, playoffs. What, you were expecting the Giants, Eagles or Redskins?

That’s right, the team with the unfair salary cap penalties, the undrafted QB, the huge number of injuries, the head case WR and the annoying owner is looking like the best the division has to offer for the playoffs. And that makes sense, because even though the Cowboys have only won one playoff win going back to the mid-90’s, they still have more playoff wins than the others. You mad?

What will they do when Murray gets hurt? Because you know that’s coming

Somebody has to win this division. Probably Philadelphia.

A real shame. Dunbar is a very talented runner but just can’t stay on the field enough to prove it. Thought he complemented Murray nicely.

This guy is made of Balsa wood….

Come to think of it… so is Austin, Murray and Lee! Let’s give ’em all contract extensions, hey Jerrah?
