Rex Ryan “concerned” about Santonio Holmes’ availability

The Jets got wide receiver Santonio Holmes back into the lineup for the last two games after an extended absence with a hamstring injury, but it doesn’t look like Holmes will make it three in a row against the Dolphins this weekend.

Coach Rex Ryan said Friday that he is “concerned” about Holmes’ availability after his hamstring kept him from practicing on Friday. If Holmes does miss the game, it will be a continuation of what’s been a terribly frustrating season for the Jets’ top wideout after a foot injury made for an equally frustrating 2012 season. With his guaranteed money out of the way, it wouldn’t be surprising if Holmes is playing elsewhere come next season.

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com also reports that Ryan sounded pessimistic about wideout Jeremy Kerley’s chances of playing. Kerley has missed the last two games after dislocating his elbow, but it seems his return to the field will be delayed at least another week.

That leaves the Jets with David Nelson, Stephen Hill, Greg Salas and Josh Cribbs as receiving options. That’s less than ideal for an offense with plenty of other problems heading into a date with the Dolphins that would end any realistic hope of a playoff berth if the Jets lose.

I wonder what kind of job people think Ryan should be doing with this roster…

Holmes is a diva who only plays when he wants to play. The Jets would be wise to jettison him. Hard to imagine someone getting paid to milk his imaginary injuries.

Dolphin fan here. I hate the jets. But lets be fair in that Geno has no one to throw to and the offense is not helping him at all. His mistakes just add to that.
Jets D is pretty good and the lack of a consistent running game will not help our chances either.

Holmes is ruining his career all by himself. Some team probably will pay him next year, just won’t be my jets. I only hope idzik sees the whole picture(geno has nobody to throw to) and doesn’t get rid of the best Defensive mind in the nfl. They’ve already exceeded my expectations for the year. One good draft and FA, and the jets should do some real damage next year.

In related news: the Miami defense should be a great fantasy pickup

I agree with most above. Yes, Holmes is a diva who only plays when he feels like it. Just how long can you milk a hamstring injury? As a Jets fan, I can’t wait to get rid of him. The money he cost will easily be used to pick up a much more valuable FA next year.

Of course he has nobody to throw too. Rex always wants defensive players drafted as he ignores the offense. Like his pops

Yes pick up MIA d in fantasy. They’re so elite. Even the jets garbage O will rush for 200 yards on them….

Holmes has this “gig” down pat..Resting up for the next big contract he thinks is coming his way at the end of the year when the Jets cut him…He’s an obnoxious malcontent…

Jets would have taken Tavon Austin instead of Milliner if Rams didn’t have the pick in front of them.

jets had their big game and lost. also accented their limitations. miami game would be easier to watch if people had been right about only winning three games all year. don’t really need the aggravation. always a jet fan but…
