Patriots hang on against the pesky 2-10 Texans

8e24a2caaddbd7ba0ee4645fe04a6c1a AP

The comeback was impressive, even if the context made it less so.

The Patriots came back for another late win, stopping Case Keenum on a fourth-and-13 chance and a few desperate heaves late to escape with a 34-31 win.

The Texans led 17-7 at halftime, but quarterback Tom Brady heated up in the second half, spreading the ball efficiently among his odd lot of receivers.

The win moves the Patriots to 9-3, while the Texans fell to 2-10 with their 10th straight loss.

Keenum was actually not bad at times (passing for 272 yards on just 15 completions), and the Texans were able to run against a porous Patriots defensive front.

But in the end, one team was playing for something, and that team had Brady, which was enough of a difference.

Brady was 29-of-41 for 371 yards and two touchdowns, overcoming an early pick. Coupled with a workmanlike running game (which didn’t fumble, with Stevan Ridley inactive), and it was enough to punch the clock and move on to bigger tasks.

Congratulations on barely beating the 2-9 Houston Texans.

a win is a win is a win….no style points

Well, this group got a bit of pride back by not getting blown out and humiliated by New England. Now blow the thing up outside of Watt, AJ, and Nuke. Anyone else is up for debate with the new regime.

They did something Doctorrustbelts team the Bengals couldn’t do, beat the Texans.

  5. fatsolio says: Dec 1, 2013 4:06 PM

Yeah, Brady was the difference. All you need is Teflon Tom which is why the Pats haven’t won a superbowl in 8 years. The Pats defense making stops near the end of games doesn’t matter nor do all the other players. You just need Brady! He throws, blocks, catches, rushes, defends, kicks all by himself.

Let’s hype up this win a bit more since it isn’t like the Texans are arguably the worst team in the NFL and have blown basically every half time lead they have had.

Pats fan here..but they were lucky winning this one!! Hope the D (if they have one) shows up next week!!!

Great game by the Texans. Their young QB looks like he has some promise.

  8. brazzz01 says: Dec 1, 2013 4:12 PM

Heh. Seems that without spygate Brady has trouble beating 2-10 teams. Haw haw haw.

  9. ftomasic1961 says: Dec 1, 2013 4:18 PM

marcia did his usual dink and dunk and still had to rely on mega bomb field goals (just like the tainted superbowls wins)….

still no rings in 8 years…teflon tom? you can have him.

  11. brazzz01 says: Dec 1, 2013 4:23 PM

Why can’t Brady dominate bad teams without spygate?

I am outraged that Pats fans think Brady is good. All intelligent football fans know that weakling QB’s drafted in the 6th round are still in the 6th round because they suck.

“Congratulations on barely beating the 2-9 Houston Texans.”

Beating the 2-9 Texans is better than losing to Cleveland, Bengals fan.

Good luck with the Chargers, you’re going to need it.

You don’t apologize for winning in the NFL. The Patriots just came off a two game gauntlet and just played five quarters against Denver. This was a classic “let down” or “trap” game against a team playing their Super Bowl and the Patriots weathered the storm.

  13. Patskrieg dot com says: Dec 1, 2013 4:30 PM

It really grinds my gears that even in New England there is the double standard sentiment that the Patriots need to blow a team out to “deserve to win” a game. They made their adjustments. Scored 34 points and came through in the clutch. Good mental focus over 60 minutes on the road. I’ll take it.

  14. holdthemayo123 says: Dec 1, 2013 4:39 PM

Who cares if it was a close win? They are fresh off a W against many people’s Super Bowl pick out of the AFC – it’s not like they haven’t proven they can’t hang with the best in the league.

  15. patsfan1820 says: Dec 1, 2013 4:41 PM

Respect to Houston for keeping it close. 9-3 is still 9-3. Hopefully Peyton can lose this week. Go Pats!!

  16. bigwii says: Dec 1, 2013 4:44 PM

Spygate this, cheater that. That’s the only excuse haters have. It just shows how little you know about what actually happened during spygate. The most overblown start in NFL history. Maybe if you read up a little boy you would all know what it really is and it’s no where close to what you think. Educate.

How about hurting people for money like the Saints or violating the salary cap like the Broncos, nope I never hear that. It’s because the Pats have been the most dominant team of the last 13 years. Get over it.

“How about hurting people for money like the Saints or violating the salary cap like the Broncos, nope I never hear that. It’s because the Pats have been the most dominant team of the last 13 years. Get over it.”

Of course that’s the reason. But you can’t reason with the feeble minded like the doctorrustbelt’s of the world. It’s only natural that fans like him would be envious of the Patriots, especially when you consider the fact that the Patriots season last year was more successful than any Bengals season in two decades.

  18. dualprime says: Dec 1, 2013 4:54 PM

A fun stat… Matt Schaub and David Carr combined have thrown for 54,000 fewer yards than Brady and Bledsoe combined. That’s 10 miles. Just confirms how “lucky” the Pats have been over the years.

  19. krabballs says: Dec 1, 2013 4:59 PM

Was there one penalty called against the Patriots today? I guess after the Carolina game the league told the zebras to swallow all hankies for the rest of the year. Can’t have Tommy Beautiful watching the playoffs in January…

  20. stanzona says: Dec 1, 2013 5:06 PM

These Spygate posters are hilarious. They are absolute idiots. NE has a better winning percentage post Spygate than they did during the Pre-Spygate Brady years. They also have 2 Conference Championships and an undefeated regular season during that period. I guess it was Brady’s fault that the defense gave up leads in both of those SB losses with under a minute to play. I rarely visit this site, but I must say that these morons are hilarious. It make for terrific reading. LOL.

  21. bigwii says: Dec 1, 2013 5:23 PM

Try to stay with me haters. The best part is cameras on sidelines were LEGAL until 2006 when the rule was made. Even IF the Patriots did it they had every right to, every team did and most teams did.

The reason the Pats were fined and lost a pick is because they did it AFTER it became a rule and guess what they were 18-0 the year AFTER that.

Now you ask why we’re they punished so bad? Well, they didn’t want it to happen again. Just like Tomlin and the Steelers will get a similar punishment for what he just did. Does that mean the Steelers are forever tainted and are cheaters too? No!

  22. patsbrat says: Dec 1, 2013 5:25 PM

Earlier this season the D got us some wins. Today D had problems against the run and also some against the pass. We needed all 34 points, no turnovers, and no penalties from the offense to squeeze out the win. Even the offense got off to a slow start again…

    …but its a W!!!

Every night i go to bed and pray the Pats play the Bungles in the playoffs. Know why? Easy as pie W. Between the piss poor coach, and the noodle arm ginger for a QB, easy win. Just ask the texans.

People just hate to see the Patriots win. Most haters are fans of teams that wish they were as good as the Patriots. It’s just that simple.

Kind of like the Giants praying for more SB match ups with the Pats. Know why? Ask the Bengals.

As a fan of another team i wish everyday that my team could have the pristine reputation that the patriots have. The front office and head coach are the model of integrity and honesty that every team should look up to.

Maybe now we won’t have to hear about how awesome the pats and brady are on bspn all week long eventhough they are less than average.

Yep. 13-6 with Brady having the ball on the last drive and Cincy being saved by a driving rain storm.

    That’s destruction alright.

    From Antonio Smith…

“Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are among the best at their craft because they work so hard at their craft. But you have to be a descendent of ‘Tones-tradamus’ to know what we put in this week to be able to change that fast. I got the only crystal ball in existence. I don’t know what it is. Either teams are spying on us or something’s going on.”

Houston’s Antonio Smith accused the NEPs of cheating?

    Now I’ve heard it all.

Wow, that’s funny stuff right there. 2-10 will do that to you. I guess every other team they played has a crystal ball too… talk about 4th quarter collapses.

Notice we don’t hear people crowing about how Eli is an elite QB anymore? That’s because he’s not and never was. An elite QB can take a team with a bunch of rookie receivers and their three top defensive players out for the year and make them 9 and 3. Tom Brady is the smartest and toughest QB in the league and has been for a long time. The only thing I hate about him is he’s handsome, intelligent, wealthy and married to a super-model. Why can’t he be like the Manning’s and resemble Mr. Ed?
