Seahawks jump on top of Saints early

russellwilson

The big Monday night showdown in Seattle got off to a great start for the Seahawks.

The game started with the Saints receiving the opening kickoff and promptly going three-and-out, managing just three yards on their opening possession. The crowd noise in Seattle was intense, and so was the Seahawks’ defense.

After New Orleans punted, Seattle marched down the field on an 11-play, 61-yard drive that ended with a Steven Hauschka 26-yard field goal. Russell Wilson was excellent, completing three of his four passes for 40 yards and also running twice for 13 yards.

Although the Seahawks were kept out of the end zone, the game started just the way the home team wanted.

UPDATE 8:58 p.m. ET: And on the next possession, the Seahawks’ defense scored, with Cliff Avril knocking the ball out of Drew Brees’s hand and Michael Bennett grabbing the ball and running 22 yards to the end zone. It’s 10-0, Seattle.
