Cowboys working out a bunch of backs

Shaun Draughn AP

After losing Lance Dunbar for the rest of the season, just as he was showing up, the Cowboys are suddenly short at running back.

According to former personnel man Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys’ official website, the team is working out a handful of backs this morning.

On hand for the Cowboys cattle calls are running backs Armando Allen, Curtis Brinkley, Delone Carter and Shaun Draughn and fullback Tyler Clutts.

Draughn and Carter have actually done some decent things at previous points in the league, but the Cowboys are scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

Lawrence Maroney is ready to go, and Tiki Barber is flabbergasted.

Why doesn’t a guy like Beanie Wells get a look. I know he didn’t produce much in Arizona but he was also always hurt. If healthy he could be a nice pickup on the cheap to prove himself. Low risk high reward with a guy like that if you ask me.

That’s all they need is bottom of the barrel. They are playing the Bears defence who makes every back look like a pro bowler. An undrafted rookie for the rams ran for 100 yards in a HALF. Brandon Jacobs ran all over them after not playing, or even practicing for a year.
The Bear defence is ranked 32’nd in the league for a reason.

Beanie Wells got several workouts this past summer and could barely finish them, or when he did finish them his knee would get all swollen and couldnt finish physicals.

Its likely his career is over since he knee cant hold up but he’ll probably have one last chance this summer to prove he can stay healthy, if not he’ll be just another Ohio St running back that didnt make it in the NFL..

What caused the big drop in Bears defense? Can’t be just the loss of their MLB.

Where is Lance Ball on the list?

Beanie Wells actually tore his achilles during a workout recently so he’s out for awhile.

Wow, what a vote of confidence this is for Murray, Randall, and Tanner. I get that none of these guys are the change of pace RB that Dunbar was, but they all know the offense and the Cowboys won several games when Dunbar didn’t even play. At this point you just need to go with what you’ve got.

Based on his name alone Clutts is a perfect match for the Cowboys.
