Seahawks clinch, six others have Week 14 playoff scenarios

petecarroll AP

By beating the Saints on Monday night, the Seahawks became the first team to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Six more teams have a chance to clinch in Week 14.

The Broncos clinch a playoff spot with a win on Sunday, or a loss or tie by either the Dolphins or the Ravens.

The Chiefs clinch a playoff spot with a win and either a Dolphins or Ravens loss or tie.

The Patriots clinch the AFC East with a win and a Dolphins loss or tie. The Patriots also clinch a playoff spot with a win and a Ravens loss or tie.

The Colts clinch the AFC South with a win or a Titans loss.

Finally, the winner of the Saints-Panthers game can clinch a playoff spot with some help. The Saints clinch a playoff spot with a win, losses by the Eagles and Cowboys, and a loss by either the Cardinals or 49ers. The Panthers clinch a playoff spot with a win and losses by the Cardinals, 49ers, Eagles and Cowboys.

And the Seahawks, who are already in the playoffs, clinch the NFC West and a first-round bye if they beat the 49ers on Sunday.

Clinching is what we Packers fans do best, dead or alive. We can still win the Super Bowl when our top clincher comes back.

  3. MichaelEdits says: Dec 3, 2013 4:07 PM

I hope the Seahawks start resting starters the way the Colts used to do. That way, my Panthers can win the NFC.

Normally you’d laugh at an article photo like that, but that’s his usual face. He lost dozens of games as the Patriots coach with the same expression on his face.

Interesting, so we’ll have the Saints rooting for the Seahawks this Sunday… I guess Hawks / Niners is this week’s “game of the year.” Should be a good one.

The Seahawks made a statement by dominating the Saints on Monday Night. Next the Seahawks will need to make another statement: They can win tough road games too.

Looking forward to a great game played against a tough opponent at Candlestick. Go Hawks!

Big game for Seattle on Sunday! Go HAWKS.

  11. thegenoatkinsdiet says: Dec 3, 2013 4:23 PM

Wow, the AFC South is incredibly bad. The Colts could lose this week and, with a Titans loss, still clinch their division at 8-5 with three games to go. That’s some high-grade suck right there.

Whats great for the Hawks is they dont need this game. They only need to win 2 of their last 4 games to lockup #1 seed in the NFC. Besides SF, they play the Giants in NY, then host the Rams and Cardinals. So, the Niners HAVE to win, the hawks dont at all.

  16. zillabeast says: Dec 3, 2013 4:42 PM

The 49ers are a much meaner road team than at home. No one – including Seattle – is going to want to host them in the playoffs.

The Seahawks don’t have to win a single true road game for the rest of the year to become Super Bowl champions. Think about that.

  19. thatwasntsological says: Dec 3, 2013 4:52 PM

The cowboys and eagles both have pretty easy remaining schedules. I think most people were right to say that it’s gonna come down to the week 17 bout between the two.

Really? On Dec 23 of last year at Seattle, that “much meaner road team” scored only 13 points, and gave up 42. On Sept 15 of this year at Seattle, they scored a measly 3 points, and gave up 29.

I think Seattle wouldn’t mind at all hosting them in the playoffs.

    @imthedudedude

Then there’s three, because I believe that he caught it. Dual possession of a reception goes to the intended receiver, the rulebook sez.. It is not decided by which team has the largest crybaby fan base.

  35. pacificnw7722 says: Dec 3, 2013 5:42 PM

Try to stop Lynch? No problem we just go to the air game. Hawks with Percy Harvin at some point soon will be icing on the cake.

  36. thebirdofprey2 says: Dec 3, 2013 5:50 PM

49er fans are so funny. A meaner road team? They got completely thrashed 42-13, 29-3 the last two trips to Century Link. It was so bad that all the bandwagon Whiner fans deserted PFT for a few weeks both times.

Seahawks had to win about 8 games this year without our LT. Lets see if you guys can do the same this weekend. Go Hawks!

  37. justintuckrule says: Dec 3, 2013 5:55 PM

Not just saying this to be a homer…..

The only team that could beat Seattle in their house in the playoffs is the Giants.

Unfortunately, our chances of making the dance are slim to none.

If Seattle fans know an ounce about football, they would agree. They have nothing left to worry about this month other than the Giants getting mathematically eliminated sooner rather than later. Indeed, Seattle will have a chance to seal the Giants fate next week if SD doesn’t seal it this weekend.

  38. justintuckrule says: Dec 3, 2013 5:57 PM

If there are any Seattle haters on this site whose own teams don’t have a prayer at the playoffs, you should all be rooting for complete meltdowns by Philly and Dallas so that the NYG can sneak into the dance. We’ve always been adept at winning the impossible road playoff game and we’re your only hope of salvation.

  39. ninersareyesterdaysnews says: Dec 3, 2013 6:01 PM

  43. natepalmer1 says: Dec 3, 2013 7:12 PM

Bring on the Panthers! The Seahawks beat them for the NFC championship in 2006 and we would love to do it again!
Shutting Steve Smith’s mouth is fun and easy!

  44. 5to46hawkfan says: Dec 3, 2013 7:31 PM

What a great game last night for Seattle!!!
They played well and I was happy for them!
The forty niners…well, I like Vernon Davis, nice guy. Talk about some smug a– players and coaches though… Kissing your own arm, really? And, Harbaurf nearly cries if they don’t win every game.
Sundays matchup will hopefully be a great game.
I’m sure if 49er’s win, the smugness, with a pinch of bragging, of their players and fans will surface, and if Seattle wins, it will only be because of drugs and cheating so….
With all that said, GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!

  45. 5to46hawkfan says: Dec 3, 2013 7:32 PM

  48. seattlelibtard says: Dec 3, 2013 8:46 PM

The 9er/hawk game at candlestick this sunday is going to be fun. The fans will be trying really hard to be loud. “Go Than Fran Thisco! Beat Those TheaHawkths!”

  49. adderal says: Dec 3, 2013 9:09 PM

This game is big to the fans and maybe the 49ers psyche but really means nothing. The division is all but decided and sf can loose and still get the last seed. Id say last years beatdown in Sea was needed by the hawks do to there average start and really at the end meant nothing as Sf won the game that Sea couldn’t and got to the super bowl. Same thing could happen this year, right now i think Seattle is the better team but doesn’t mean they will be come Jan.

  50. oreo51 says: Dec 3, 2013 9:35 PM

The two best teams in the NFL are playing this Sunday in Candlestick Park. After the Seahawks embarrass the Whinners this season should be declared as over. No one is going to beat the Seahawks this year. There needs to be a mercy rule in pro football.

  51. thereyougo2 says: Dec 3, 2013 9:50 PM

That actor of a coach will prevent Seattle from becoming champs. Counting on Harvin for any help let alone playing the game is just stupid. Wilson is as good as they come.

Who can beat them? Their own head coach.

  52. jbaxt says: Dec 3, 2013 10:14 PM

From 2-14 to 9 wins. And only 2 more to guaranty a playoff spot. Go Chiefs!

  53. mikep363839 says: Dec 3, 2013 10:19 PM

The 49ers are going to do the same thing the Saints did to the Seahawks. Don’t let the newest Brady/Manning dude see any of your best stuff. Surprise Russell Wilson in the playoffs and let him have the regular season. That kid is freaking good.

  54. seaeagle707 says: Dec 3, 2013 10:19 PM

    @thefiesty1

You clearly don’t know the Seahawks. We treat every game the same, as a championship. The Hawks mentality is to go 1-0, every week from one to done (SB). The team trains each week to just that end. To slack off because we’ve clinched a playoff spot would defeat our season-long goal. Plus, we haven’t yet reached our primary goal for the season, win the division.

    GO HAWKS!!!

  55. seaeagle707 says: Dec 3, 2013 10:22 PM

Hawks are overrated, close games and players using drugs. They are going to be out first game they play in the playoffs, similar to when in 2003 then bum QB Hasslebeck aka Russel Wilson Sr. announced they will receive and win the coin toss. What happened? Oh yeah…

  57. frostymugobeer says: Dec 3, 2013 10:58 PM

I don’t understand the perception that Carroll is this dirt bag cheater??? He’s literally done nothing. Do you really think his time at USC he was the only coach who may have done a couple crooked things recruiting? You’re crazy if you think that. So many teams have done it. So many coaches. He’s a great guy and coach so stop calling him a cheater and dirt bag because you’re jealous of his success and wish he was your teams coach.

    GO HAWKS!

Overrated? How exactly? They have the best defense and a top ten offense. Record is 11-1. They have beat 3 playoff teams. Absolutely destroyed the Saints. I just don’t see how you can call them overrated. So they’re overrated because they had some close games? Every super bowl champion had close games against teams they should win big against every single season.
This is the NFL. Any given Sunday. If you actually watch the close games against the Bucs and Titans you would realize the Hawks mostly dominated despite the scores. Moron. Go back to your envy cave and come back around next September

Wilson is a nice story and seems like a good kid, but there’s no way he can carry the team if Lynch were to go down.

That offense revolves around Lynch, not Wilson.

Saints would be better served taking care of business in the NFC South. I know all the Saints fans think all they have to do is roll out of bed and get to the Superdome on time and the win is theirs. But the Panthers keep finding ways to get it done. You can win 2-3 in a row on good fortune. But you can’t win 8 in a row without being a very good team. You have a real fight on your hands Sunday night. Geaux Panthers!!!!!!!!
