Olivier Vernon wins AFC defensive player of the week

If not for Justin Tuck freaking out with 4.0 sacks on Sunday night, we’d probably be talking more about Olivier Vernon’s outburst.

The Dolphins defensive end had 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks in the Dolphins’ blasting of the Jets.

Granted, it was against the Jets, but he led a defensive attack which allowed just 177 yards of total offense.

Vernon has 5.5 sacks in the last three games, giving him 10.0 for the season. And his progression in his second year has allowed the Dolphins to bring rookie Dion Jordan along slowly this year, since Vernon and Cameron Wake are playing at a high level.

    @ mingyabro –

Looks like he took a shot at the Jets, too. We know he isn’t a Bills fan, because not even Bills fans are Bills fans. Must be a Dolphins fan?

Another piece to a very underrated and overlooked dolphins d. That’s the way they like it though.

10 tackles and 2.5 sacks in one week….not far off Chandler Jones’ totals (16 tackles, 4 sacks) that won him player of the MONTH.

If this article didn’t mention it I would have forgotten that Dion Jordan was on this team.

Wonder how this season would’ve looked had the dolphins chose OL in the draft as opposed to a top 3 pick that can hardly get on the field… Maybe Martin accepts RT early on, maybe he freaks in camp? And Incognito? Who knows?

The Dolphins get sacks (5th in the league) and Int’s (2nd in the league).

Pts scored against is top 10 as well I believe. They give up a lot of yards between the 20′s.

I agree they should have picked OL in this draft… the Dolphins would have probably won at least 1 or 2 games more than they’ve won – and fighting for that AFC East title

Only be because he misses playing for an overrated team whose QB can’t throw.

Fins overrated? Not this season. They’ve always been listed at 2nd or even 3rd in the division. And you could see that, given adequate time by an O-line that mans up for a change, he can make good throws. If the Fins could’ve picked up Pouncey instead of Wallace this year, they’d be playoff locks instead of contenders.
