Jerry Jones knows he’ll “get busted” if he talks about Adrian Peterson

Peterson AP

On Thursday, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson mused about playing for the Cowboys or Texans.

On Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones resisted the temptation to muse about employing Peterson.

“We don’t want to get into hypotheticals in any way,” Jones said on his Friday appearance with 105.3 The Fan Dallas/Fort Worth.  “As a matter of fact that’s called ‘get busted’ in the NFL to be talking about somebody’s else player.”

It’s actually called tampering.  But we strongly prefer “get busted.”

While Jones can’t talk publicly about it, nothing stops him from privately contacting the Vikings in the offseason to see if a reverse-Herschel could be accomplished.

Adrian Peterson isn’t leaving the historic franchise known as the Minnesota Vikings.

We are the founders of real football and made what it is today.

Adrian knows if he stays in Minnesota he will win multiple superbowls and establish himself as the best player to ever play the game of football.

Jerry did offer that he could talk “all day” about the running back he intends to sign in free agency.

Don’t know if any owner would give up what the Vikings gave up years ago for Herschel, for any player…having said that if Peterson ends up in Dallas they will become a perennial “contender” …for a few years……

The Vikings have an embarrassing tradition that includes the word “Whizzinater”.

  9. douglasgreenbriar says: Dec 6, 2013 2:32 PM

Peterson has clearly been the best RB in the league for some time now but you still have to be wary in giving a huge contract to an RB thats gonna be 30 soon and has as much mileage as he does.

    AP is staying in Minnesota.

Take a look at the Cowboys Cap Space moving forward…

How in the world would this even come close to happening? They are facing one of the worst cap situations since the implementation of the Salary Cap.

Despite the increase in projected cap, the math is borderline impossible without shedding 3-4 big name players.

  12. gammynomnom says: Dec 6, 2013 2:34 PM

Why is it okay for Peterson to “muse” about it publicly then?

And what difference would it make. Jason Garret still would not run the ball except two random games per year anyway.

  16. fwippel says: Dec 6, 2013 2:38 PM

A “reverse-Herschel”? Well, the only reason the original Herschel Walker deal ever took place was because the Vikings owner at the time, Mike Lynn, wanted an easy way out of having to pay top dollar for higher round draft picks.

So Lynn traded away each of the Vikings first and second round draft picks to the Cowboys for the following three years in exchange for Walker. I remember at the time betting my friend a case of beer that Walker would never rush for a 1,000 yards in a season as a Viking. That case of beer was the only thing this Viking fan enjoyed about that trade.

So unless Jerry Jones is looking to cut costs in the same manner that Mike Lynn was, you can forget about there being a “reverse-Herschel” trade.

As for AP leaving the Vikings, I sure hope not. But the fact that it has come up is not a good sign.

I think it’s 2 different things. Tampering with things is like breathing for Jerry. “Get busted” is what happens when you get caught tampering too aggressively in public. He’s just letting everybody knows that he only secretly tampers, but not the kind you can ever prove against him, because he won’t state the explicit words while recording devices are present, thus he’s tossing us a super subtle hint to think about on our own. He’s showboating and wants all of America to know that he is in control of everything without being super obvious about it. That’s how it stays legal!

And agreed that the new NFL Monopoly version should replace the “Go to Jail” space with Jerry’s face saying “Get Busted”.

Coaches talk about opposing players every single week. Usually it is the usual PR BS about how ‘he’s a good player/real competitor/talented/someone to be reckoned with/blah blah blah’.

That’s not tampering. Talking about how much you want to talk him about joining your team or how you might use him or what you’d pay him — that’s tampering because it is essentially making a preliminary offer during an off-limits period.

  51. mtntexas says: Dec 6, 2013 4:05 PM

The wisest move for Jerry would be to trade ALL of his first thru 7th round picks in advance for the next FIVE YEARS in exchange for 5 picks in every round six years from now. The 5 yrs of picks will, no doubt, be wasted on injury prone / crippled / uncoachable nit-wits so why not load up in the sixth year and pay Alabama Coach Nick Saban, Lsu Coach Les Miles and UCLA’s John Wooden consulting fees to make those 35 draft picks?
We can ‘hang with’ what we’ve got until then and almost everyone on the team will be ready for retirement by then.

The best idea I’ve heard ALL-DAY is that we need to make some type of franchise changing move, but that will be decided in the off-season. This team is about to go on a three year rebuilding pattern and to not get anything for guys who are about to leave or lose trade value is just stupid. Especially Jared Allen. How could you not trade him?

Nfl should not have a trade deadline. They should have trades all season and all offseason long. That would be far more interesting.

  77. taintedsaints2009 says: Dec 6, 2013 6:26 PM

Most of you are very wrong in your assessment of Adrian petersons career in Minnesota. You say he would have much more production on a “real team.” More yards, touchdowns…etc

    False. Absolutely false.

The Vikings are one of the very very few teams that run first and second, and maybe pass once in a while. Minnesota is a running team and no other team in the nfl emphasizes the run like the Vikings. If anything, his production would be far lower on any other pass heavy team, which most teams are now.

Of course, this is a detriment to the Vikings, because all successful teams since 2000 have been pass heavy, including the 2009 Vikings with Favre.

So, Peterson is best to stay in Minnesota where his numbers will flourish but he won’t ever win a Super Bowl. Big deal. Marino didn’t win a Super Bowl and most consider him top three of all time in terms of talent.

He isn’t gushing over Ratliffe. He is making the very good point that Rat was cleared to play for Dallas, refused to play saying he was still hurt, then two weeks later is playing for the Bears. Rat is the one who should be fined.

Just, Because AP said he has thought about it means nothing! Every player in any sport emagines playing for the home town team!!! He has also said that he would like to play for only one team his whole career!! And that means more to most players these days!! Free agency has made playing for one team thier whole career pretty rare!!

When the Packers suck their fans always resort to the past. Oh we have 13 Championships , of course most of those came when there were only like 10 teams in the league. They LOVE to live in the past which they might as well as their team SUCKS this year which is the ONLY year that counts now. Rodgers is the most OVERRATED QB EVER. The king of the 5-10 yard pass. Packer fans = the king of excuses.

Even when Jones says nothing he says everything.

    Jones :
STUPID TO HIRE GARRETT AS COACH.

SMART TO BE INTERESTED IN A.P.

No state income tax in Texas. Plus, the Cowboys are a much more visible team than the Vikings, which would lead to more lucrative endorsement contracts. If he’s smart, he’ll take less salary to play for the Cowboys AND put more in the bank.

Damn, Adrian, I can see you leaving Minnesota because they aren’t winning squat, but not going to the Sowboys, the all-time choke leaders in the NFL. Go play for the 49ers or the Seahawks for a year, then check out your options.

    ………………………………………

Rat should be fined and sued! He had a contract and a signing bonus he had already cashed and he refused to live up to that contract.

As to Peterson; no! Great RB? Yes. Trade anything for a 30+ year-old RB? No.

Talk to us when you actually get a clutch QB.

    ……………………………………………………..

That’s because the Eagles have had such an extensive list of clutch QBs, right. Got to admit that the low and away slider that McChunks had for the Eagles was a great pitch. Lousy pass, but a great pitch. Dude, were you even alive the last time the Eagles won the NFL title?

Think about this, DeMarcus Ware in the offer for Peterson. Sweetens the pot and clears cap space for Dallas.

  92. holdsteady76 says: Dec 7, 2013 11:01 AM

Also Adrian’s contract has exhausted the guaranteed money. It is in his best interest to redo a deal perhaps front loaded with guaranteed cash and a lower cap hit.

Adrian has 3-4 great years left. To play in front of his home town and receive guaranteed money, I bet he’d be willing to work with the Cowboys.

Not going to happen. AP is the MN Vikings and nobody, not even crazy Jerry would trade enough to warrant the asking price.

No Cowboy fans, you are stuck in mediocrity with your owner/GM drafting duds for the foreseeable future. Good luck with that.

  94. nflrox36 says: Dec 7, 2013 1:15 PM

Jerry Jones, like Al Davis, is the Cowboys biggest problem..I’m not saying AP should stay in Minnesota, but don’t ruin your career AP by going to Dallas.

The Vikings couldn’t win 3 SB’s in 10 years even if they were guaranteed to make it. The Vikings new stadium sponsor is Swiffer so the Vikings can dust off their EMPTY trophy case. Vikings are 0-3 when going to the SB. A.D. Would be smart to leave & go to a contending team.
