Joe Staley feeling better, plans to play this week

The 49ers should have a key part back for Sunday’s rematch with the Seahawks, as left tackle Joe Staley said his knee injury was not as serious as it first appeared.

During his weekly radio show on 95.7 The Game (via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com), Staley said his right knee is feeling better, and he plans to play Sunday.

It feels a lot better,” Staley said. “The MCL sprain was not a severe one. But also it was one of those issues in the game where they put me down, wanted me to get an MRI and thought I’d done some damage to it. But all the results came back pretty positive.

“The week’s been going well. We’ll see how it responds day to day, but yesterday was a good day. I was out there on the practice field, did some individuals stuff, and hopefully I’ll do more stuff today.”

The 49ers were worried about him missing time, since it necessitated a major shift up front. Already without left guard Mike Iupati, they had to move right guard Alex Boone to left tackle and put backup Joe Looney at right guard to finish last week’s win over the Rams.

  1. We want 49ers team to be full strength so there can be no excuses. No strongly written letters regarding it being too loud, no crying about Kam Chancellor hitting too hard or complaining about the referees being in Paul Allen’s pocket.

Kaepernick also has every weapon possible, lets see if the man can go through more than 1 or 2 reads. I say better than the first game but still under 230 yards.

  2. What’s up with all these 49ers getting injuries that they think are serious at first and then they say that it wasn’t as serious as first thought? This is like the third or fourth time it’s happened this year I think….

Hold your words until you win something meaningful. Who made it to the Super Bowl last year and who made it to the NFC championship the year before? That’s right, not the Seahawks.

This game is going to be fun and is an intense matchup, but say something when you win in January/February.

We want these bandwagon fans to stop thinking they’ve already won the Superbowl. Im sure you were watching the Seahawks when you guys drafted Dan McGwire. Do you even know who Steve Largent is? Talk about crying, who’s the first one crying on a 49ers news article?

  5. Good Staley is a beast.. If he’s not 100% he might struggle a bit with Seattle talented dline.. But let’s be real this is a must win for SF, if they lose they will be the 7th seed.

They should win out but wouldn’t be in complete control of their own destiny which sucks. Knowing it’s a must win for SF they will play like it. But this is the worst match-up possible for that bc the seahawks are equally talented and mean when angry.

    Seahawks 28-17

However, having SF roll up more than 14 is near impossible against the Seattle.

  9. Lynch will be in full effect Sunday…that niners D has to be worryied about Wilson because Hustle Wilson is on fire. That’ll free up the middle of the field for some classic “BEASTMODING”…Can’t wait to watch those 12 yard runs ALL night long. Hopefully he’ll bulldoze that PED popping Eric Wright a few times.

  10. It sounds like he is willing to risk becoming the next RG3. He may blow out the knee completely when he locks up with Red Bryant or Mebane.

  11. The past means nothing. What ever these 2 teams have or have not won is irrelevant. All that matters in pro sports is the here and now. Last Sunday means nothing. Last Monday means nothing. Week 2 means nothing. Last year means nothing. Next week means nothing. It’s all about this week and this game. That is all that matters.

    Go Seahawks!

  12. Man are some Seahawks fans insecure… Some of you need to settle down and enjoy the view from your regular season championship and enjoy the ride. Start acting like you have been there before and stop name calling the second place teams.

You are in first place, if you are that good, you can win it. You should/could win it all based on what we have seen and yes I am a huge 49er fan. Unfortunately your support and antics for your team make you seem obnoxious and childish and you call us whiners. Yet you are that school yard bully that everyone wants him to fall on his ass and laugh.

See you Sunday and believe me when I say… see you in the Playoffs at the Clink. I look forward to it. I hope my team can serve you some humble pie

  13. Actually I think the Niners can lose one more game and still hold the 6 seed. The only team that would have tie breakers against them would be the Eagles, and if the Eagles win out then they have won their division so again the Niners get the 6th seed. The problem for the Niners is if they do lose on Sunday then the week 17 game in Arizona will probably be a win and your in game. Much better for them to win out and hope either the Saints or Panthers sweep their two game series which will put the Niners in the 5th seed.
