The 49ers should have a key part back for Sunday’s rematch with the Seahawks, as left tackle Joe Staley said his knee injury was not as serious as it first appeared.
During his weekly radio show on 95.7 The Game (via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com), Staley said his right knee is feeling better, and he plans to play Sunday.
“It feels a lot better,” Staley said. “The MCL sprain was not a severe one. But also it was one of those issues in the game where they put me down, wanted me to get an MRI and thought I’d done some damage to it. But all the results came back pretty positive.
“The week’s been going well. We’ll see how it responds day to day, but yesterday was a good day. I was out there on the practice field, did some individuals stuff, and hopefully I’ll do more stuff today.”
The 49ers were worried about him missing time, since it necessitated a major shift up front. Already without left guard Mike Iupati, they had to move right guard Alex Boone to left tackle and put backup Joe Looney at right guard to finish last week’s win over the Rams.
