Steelers activate Spaeth from IR

AP

The Steelers need some help on the offensive line.  They’ll get some Sunday, sort of.

Matt Spaeth, regarded as one of the top blocking tight ends in the NFL, has been activated from the injured reserve list.

A third-round pick of the Steelers in 2007, he returned in 2013 via free agency after spending two seasons in Chicago.  Spaeth suffered a foot injury in the preseason.

The addition of Spaeth to the active roster required a corresponding roster move.  Tight end Richard Gordon has gotten the heave ho.

  1. 49 receptions in five seasons (less than 10 catches per season)

353 yards in five seasons (less than 4 yards per game)

Yeah… nobody is more underrated than a guy who averages less than 4 yards per game.

    LOL!!!

As a key figure with the Ravens, I can only apologize so many times for clowns like Joemontanaflacco who pretend to be a Raven fan when he is really a wanna b STEELER fan. We do have good fans but he definitely is not a true one.

    HI RAVANATOR!!

  5. The Steeler’s great march continues…..

To their couches to watch the playoffs and Super Bowl from.

  6. iamozzie, you’re off base. No way jmf is a closet Steeler fan. That would be ravanator, trying to pretend to be a ravens fan. But you know that of course, as jmf properly referenced.

  7. Looking to get some pass protection with Vernon and Wake coming in tommorrow. Dolphins are on the verge of elimination and can only beat Pittsburg if they can get to the QB.

  8. Should be able to help Mike Adams handle those back-side rushes a bit.

The real question is how well Cody Wallace will do in his first start at center.

I can’t recall ever losing 2 starting centers in the same season, and neither Pouncey nor Velasco was old or particularly injury-prone. Weirdest season in about 25 years – the center position is a disaster, but for once the QB is healthy.

  9. Speaks volumes about the TE position in the NFL if Matt Spaeth is considered “one of he best blocking TE’s”.

He is an adequare blocker at best, and a non-factor in the passing game.

Since the current back-up Dennis Paulsen may be the worst blocking TE in the league, Spaeth does represent an upgrade.

  10. Right about that center posistion. Rothlesberger is tough as nails and it seems to fall on his shoulders again. Phins haven’t won in cold weather in a thousand years. So of I’ll go against the odds. Fins 23 steelers 13.
