Adrian Peterson rips officials, Ravens fans after Vikings loss

Because of an injury, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was an observer for much of the wild 29-26 Ravens win over his team on Sunday.

Peterson didn’t like much of what he saw and he took to Twitter to share his feelings after the game. Both the officials and the fans in Baltimore came up for criticism from the Vikings running back for their actions during the game.

“Wow talking about bad officiating & the worst fan base I’ve ever experience! They threw snow balls the entire 4q like lil kids. Smh,” Peterson wrote.

Peterson expanded on those thoughts after the game. He ripped the decision to uphold a fumble by running back Toby Gerhart in the first half although it looked like Gerhart’s knee was down before the ball came out as well as a late pass interference call on linebacker Chad Greenway.

“It’s frustrating for us,” Peterson said, via KFAN. “We come in and we fight so hard, to have to beat a team and the officials, it doesn’t make any sense. … And then to top it off you have the fans who are acting like kids and just throwing snowballs the end of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter. It’s like, it was ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense.”

Peterson’s comments about the officials may earn some notice from the league office. His comments about the fans in Baltimore probably make it wise to avoid a pilgrimage to Diner filming locations in the near future.

I’ve never understood why fans aren’t punished for throwing snowballs onto the field. I was at a Jets/Seahawks game in Seattle in 2008 where the same thing was happening; it almost started several fights and Kris Jenkins retaliated by throwing snow back after the game. How is throwing snow on the field any different from throwing anything else? It can clearly disrupt the game and, like Peterson said, it’s incredibly childish and classless.

The losers always have something to say about poor officiating, often blaming refs for their team’s loss entirely, but You’ll never hear about a football player commending the good calls that refs make.

  11. tjacks7 says: Dec 8, 2013 5:51 PM

Can’t disagree with him about the officials. Gerhart’s knee was clearly down on the fumble. The pass interference call was blown as well. When are officials going yo be held accountable? The replacement refs would have been better than these clowns by now.

  12. trekker38 says: Dec 8, 2013 5:51 PM

Sore loser Adrian????? The Ravens have been on the receiving end of some controversial “no calls” too, ya know. Just go back to last week’s Mike Tomlin incident. It’s not “against the Vikings,” the officials are just making bad call, Adrian. Get your act together before you let your emotions get you fined… (as you probably are now!)

AP sorry you got hurt but the taste of your tears must be making you salty.

Snowball throwing happens in just about every stadium that has snow. I remember going to a Philly game a few years back when it snowed. One of my friends had a Cowboys jacket on during the game and we got pounded with snowballs.

When fans are caught throwing at the players (or other fans for that matter) they should be escorted out of the stadium. Based on this article it is unclear if they were.

As far, as the refs…is this Peterson’s first game? IMO the early Vikings fumble should have been overturned, but there were other poor calls and non-calls. Torrey Smith was being held for most of the game and there were no flags, On one particular play, the Viking player literally was holding his jersey right in front of the ref.

The refs do need to be held to a higher standard; but, everyone needs to be honest and not just get upset with calls that are not favorable to their teams.

  28. kaakwha says: Dec 8, 2013 5:58 PM

    ___________________________

Um the lead was a direct result of the botched fumble review.

The reffing was so unbelievably one sided, it’s hilarious that Ravens fans would even pretend like they weren’t very fortunate. The fumble botch lead to 7 points. The horrible blocking penalty on the Vikings forced a FG when they would have had the ball on the 3 yard line. Then the other two TD drives were kept alive by phantom PI calls, one of which was on a play that should have been a game ending INT.

The refs directly gave the Ravens 22 points, and probably stole 4 away from the Vikings. One thing to complain about ticky tacky stuff that happens every game, another to complain when reffing has a direct impact on the score of the game.

  43. dhouge2013 says: Dec 8, 2013 6:13 PM

Pot meet kettle. It really takes a classless organization to know one. AP should look into the stands of the metrodome some time. If they show up, nothing but a group of classless losers at any point in the game.

  44. colv says: Dec 8, 2013 6:15 PM

Peterson sees the end for him coming up to greet him shortly. Excuses, broad stroking the Ravens fans for some bad actors. Adrian, your a pompous ass and sees his hopes of a championship slipping away so the refs cheat and the Baltimore fans are the worst. Jealousy maybe describes a great player moving into the final years of his career, without a QB and as a loser.
For the fans of Minnesota, in my 30 years in the military I have spent many great times in your state and stadium, glade your getting a new one. I hope you get a franchise QB like Luck and Peterson has a few more productive years so you can get back into the playoffs.

  45. haminator says: Dec 8, 2013 6:17 PM

  48. youngs79 says: Dec 8, 2013 6:20 PM

The refs were terrible in that game. The Gerhart call was brutal. Also, an interference call Greenway when the guy slipped on his own and wasn’t touched by Greenway. The Vikings were robbed of a victory today.

  49. vikingsvoice says: Dec 8, 2013 6:21 PM

AP is a true competitor that has a legitimate love and respect for the game and it’s fans. Bad officiating and fans throwing projectiles at players is a slap in the face to this.

  50. atntitan says: Dec 8, 2013 6:23 PM

I dont doubt it at all abt the refs. Anyone who really watched titans vs broncos should know titans got screwed too. Called a personal foul on pollard for leading with ahoulder not helmet and then gave them basically a free pass interference call when the broncos clearly set a pick and had done so earlier in game as well on broncos td. Even cbs commentators admitted on first. Td manning on 6th and goal! What a sissy sport with a jacked rule system this is becoming. Cant beat manning the robot and the sorry system.

  51. ad296 says: Dec 8, 2013 6:23 PM

He’s absolutely right. If any of you had watched the game (which most of you didn’t, just to want comment like you know) would have seen the multiple game changing calls made by the referees in favor of the ravens. The announcers even said how bad it was. Don’t comment unless you know what you are talking about, it makes you look stupid.

  52. diyleedap says: Dec 8, 2013 6:28 PM

  53. inferreadcensors says: Dec 8, 2013 6:28 PM

The officiating needs to be addressed. The officials and the players have both had strikes to fix their situation. I think the fans should all strike and show them that we will not put up with a compromised product. The customer is always (sometimes) right.

  59. mintberrycrunch1 says: Dec 8, 2013 6:33 PM

Fans of all teams need to band together regarding this atrocity that has been the officiating in 2013. Fans need to stop defending bad calls just because they benefited their team that day or they dont want the impression that their team got help to win.

The fact is this year has seen the worst officiating that the sport has ever faced. The officials are swinging games this year and its blatant to every fan. Absolutely nothing is being done about this! No accountability, no improvement, just silence.

If your team benefitted from calls its ok to say “i think we still would have won today without the help of the refs, but there were some really bad calls today”.

  65. 1rockyracoon says: Dec 8, 2013 6:39 PM

He’s frustrated that he’s spending the prime years of his career on a lousy team. Still, tweeting like a 13 year old lacks class.

  66. Deb says: Dec 8, 2013 6:40 PM

Didn’t see the game and have no opinion on whether any calls went against the Vikes. But it’s an absolute certainty that someone was screwed by a bad call today and the Ravens have had their share of bad calls like everyone else. And no, I don’t think it’s wise to call out the officials or the opposing fans on Twitter. Now that they think it will rattle you, the next team’s fans will pelt you with snowballs, too.

But I take issue with the idea that a player can’t criticize what he believes is a bad call without risking a fine from the league. If bad calls were rare and the league responded to game-altering bad calls the way they respond to supposed “bad” hits, then I’d expect players to hold their tongues (or keystrokes). But the league refuses to address officiating issues. So the players should have the right to speak out. They’re not saying anything fans can’t see for themselves. Goodell’s motto is that if you ignore it, no one will notice. It doesn’t work that way.

  67. ud1hens says: Dec 8, 2013 6:40 PM

I sat in section 101 right behind the Vikings’ bench. I’m going to call BS on this. Additionally, he was out of the stadium for much of the game to and from the hospital. And once he returned it was sleet and freezing rain with no snow in the stands. As for the refs, yes they were brutal. But calling out an entire fanbase via twitter seems teenage girlish

  71. bigdaddyrockytop says: Dec 8, 2013 6:42 PM

He should worry more about other possible children he abandon than the officials in a game that means absolutely nothing to the Vikings. Most of their pathetic fan base wants them to lose out to improve draft position. Somehow that means a better player the higher you pick. See Ryan Leaf.

  72. banlarson says: Dec 8, 2013 6:43 PM

Wasn’t just the fumble call or booth overlooking he was on his knees when the defender swiped at the ball. The phantom chop block call on the Patterson run to the 1 for 15 yards was clearly a legal block. Without those two alone the Vikings win this game.

Throw on top of that ridiculous interference calls on the last drive to get the Ravens into scoring position and anyone who watched the game would leave with the impression the refs must have been Raven’s fans. NFL is getting to be a joke with these officials.

  73. johngaltwho says: Dec 8, 2013 6:44 PM

I dont know about the officiating but security in Baltimore should rein in overzealous fans if they are throwing things at the visiting players. AP is not a whiner and he is a phenomenal talent, if he complains openly like that, there must be some real merit to it. No matter who you root for, if you’re a football fan, you should be an Adrian Petersen fan in some capacity. Go Pack Go.

What’s worse is that blown call led to the Raven’s first TD.

He knows he’s the the clock is ticking, and wants to go out a winner. He knows that will not happen in Minnesota. A Viking player complaining about the refs? Geez, I thought that was the exclusive domain of the Viking fans.

Peterson is getting frustrated, by the way Gerhert ran today, the Vikings should consider a trade for Peterson. They have more holes to fill than Swiss Cheese and only 7 picks to do it.

The officiating has gotten to epic proportions because nobody knows what the rules are anymore. Every week its the same thing ,bad calls and horrible replays in every game that mattered. I don’t know how this game can be taken seriously anymore.

  103. melikefootball says: Dec 8, 2013 7:51 PM

The announcer hardly make a squeak if there is a bad call, they run scared for their jobs under the scrutiny of Gödel, watch. The officiating is getting worse and worse yet the league office is blind to the fact. The calls of game to game is so inconsistent that now players and coaches are speaking up. The game has taken steps backwards because of this.

Roger Goodell has serious problems with his league. The officiating in this league is below subpar to the point where it is beginning to look like the NFL is fixed. Too many games today alone that the refs poor calls are glaring.
The PI and the call that they said Gerhardt fumbled in this game alone were gross. It is not just me saying the vikings got ripped off. Several teams got cheated today. Feel proud Roger.

  115. christke1982 says: Dec 8, 2013 8:11 PM

I live in Baltimore and I can say without any doubt that the Ravens fans are as low class, uninformed fan as there is in the NFL. Did you see how many empty seats there were at the game today because of a little snow??? What kind of fanbase is that?

Also, sooner or later their throw it deep and hope for a PI call strategy is going to stop working. They get more calls than any team in the league but to listen to their fans the NFL is out to get them. Again, worst fans in the NFL.

  116. oldstylelover says: Dec 8, 2013 8:14 PM

As a Packers fan in the Twin Cities, I watched this game and can easily say the Vikings got hosed. The two calls Peterson mentioned, especially the interference call, we’re plain wrong and costly. The Vikings were cheated by bad officiating, though all teams face that from time to time.

  119. vavikingfan says: Dec 8, 2013 8:21 PM

Since we have DirectTV and see all the NFL games I certainly agree that the officiating has been terrible and inconsistent. The solution? While it would make games extraordinarily long there needs to be more replay—but given the length the current ones take games would stretch to 4 -5 hours. I do remember Goodell once saying something to the effect that a guy sitting in a bar should be able to make a quick decision. Given today’s technology, one would think it could be done in 30 seconds.
Pass interference and blocks in the back are one area I would suggest.

  120. fmc651 says: Dec 8, 2013 8:22 PM

Some Raven fans actually beating their chest after needed help from the refs to beat the Vikings team when AD didn’t play 3/4 of it. As for the fudgepackers fans here it is constant on viking stories. And you can’t blame them for being giddy they haven’t won in a month and a half.

  121. thejuddstir says: Dec 8, 2013 8:28 PM

Not a Vikings fan per se but I watched the game and it was very poor officiating. Peterson is right, the Vikings got robbed the entire game. Even with instant replay the refs couldn’t get it right. Pete Morelli and his crew are the worst in the NFL and I don’t know how he keeps his job. He called a game winning FG missed against Cleveland a few years ago when instant replay or a challenge couldn’t be used on FG’s but since that blown call, they now can. Not to rub salt in the wound Vikings fans but did you know that Pete Morelli and his crew are the one’s who handed the 2009-10 NFC championship game to the saints during bounty gate! Yep, the same Pete Morelli but yet the NFL keeps him employed.

  122. the8man says: Dec 8, 2013 8:33 PM

Live in Baltimore. Was once a season ticket holder. Watched the game and saw numerous replays on the calls he mentioned. Yep. He has a beef.

Two things. One, the evidence has to be enough to over turn the call on the field. Two, the refs have been screwing up 1 or 2 games every week. Anyone who knows me, knows I’ve been screaming, “Who’s getting screwed next?”

As for the snowballs, can’t comment. But stadium security tends to be intolerant of said actions and usually acts quickly.

Is he sure his own bench wasn’t throwing them?

Prepare for an official apology from the NFL for the officiating in this game. But, so what?

That said, perhaps unfortunately, Leslie Frazier needs to start berating and intimidating officials during the game like 80% of the other coaches do. This quiet, nice guy shtick hurts his team. Whether the call is good or bad, it is a competitive advantage to let the officials know that your team got screwed and that they owe you one. Frazier is easy to screw over because he won’t embarrass the official like a Harbaugh or Coughlin would.

Nope…I don t remember Packer fans picketing anything,I do,however ,remember every single espn ,fox, cnn, cbs, nbc, abc, and all the sportscasters and writers alike all agreeing on one thing….that it was a horrible call. And yes, we have have all seen Viking fans go to such lengths. You girls have been crying about the refs since Roger Staubachs Hail Mary in the 70’s, and just when we think we ve heard enough, here comes 2009 and ” how the NFL gave the Super Bowl to the Saints”” wha wha wha.

  154. fluffy19 says: Dec 9, 2013 10:15 AM

If this game had been done by replacement refs, Steve Young and Trent Dilfer would still be crying. The Gerhart fumble was blatantly worse than the “Golden Tate TD” last year, but who cares, right?

Then, you get people saying, “Why don’t you complain to your D about making a stop at the end?” Well, you see, they did make a stop. Watch the game. We had a game clinching INT with under a minute left. The problem was that Morrelli calls a PHANTOM interference call on Greenway. So, that’s kind of the point of AD’s complaint. They did make a stop. Then is was stolen away by bad officials.

Lastly, this isn’t about one meaningless game for the Vikes. This just helps our draft status. This is about the systematic disintegration of the rules and officiating of a game that we all love. Every fan of NFL football should be greatly concerned by the trend of pathetic officiating, rule changes, and enforcement of those rules. All year long in all different team’s games I’ve seen more bad calls, botched replays, and ( I think worst of all) terrible ball spots. Seriously, the ball spotting thing has become just terrible. It’s clear that the league has quietly issued policy for the officials to just get the spot close and quickly call the down. How many measurements do you see anymore? They are rarer than an offensive PI call on a pick play. Clearly it’s meant to speed up the game, but in a game of inches….guess what, inches matter.
Again, I’m not saying this as a bitter Vikes fan. I’m saying it as a more and more suspicious and disillusioned NFL fan. Yesterday’s game was the first time I ever really wondered if the fix was in on an NFL game.

You girls were tearing up this website when you had Favre and were winning, but oh I forgot, the NFL ruined that too, even though they went OUT of their way to accommodate Favre and his childish antics to get “revenge”. Didn’t see a lot of holding calls or calls against the Queens that whole season if I recall either. If you ask me the NFL gave the Queenies every chance that year to succeed, but 4 turnovers and 12 men in the huddle ruined that…..yet 5 years later you r still crying. So when the Lions take over the north, are you guys going to go on their pages and talk like 5 year olds?

Not a Viking fan per se but on EVERY article about the Vikings and crying how they got screwed.

Remember the time the Packer fans picketed because of that call? Have you ever seen Viking fans go to such lengths?

Nope…I don t remember Packer fans picketing anything,I do,however ,remember every single espn ,fox, cnn, cbs, nbc, abc, and all the sportscasters and writers alike all agreeing on one thing….that it was a horrible call. And yes, we have have all seen Viking fans go to such lengths. You girls have been crying about the refs since Roger Staubachs Hail Mary in the 70′s, and just when we think we ve heard enough, here comes 2009 and ” how the NFL gave the Super Bowl to the Saints”” wha wha wha.
    ————————————–
Yup and each and every time there was whining about calls from Viking fans they are justified unlike the Packer fans whining AND YES, PICKETING, over a call that was actually the right call.

Feel free to watch the Staubach play and the 2009 NFCCG and let me know if the whining is justified.

Hey fluffy19, the INT in the 4th quarter ONLY HAPPENED because Greenway grabbed Pitta around the hips and impeded his progress. He grabbed Pitta’s hips around 8 yards past the line of scrimmage. He let go, sure, but that wouldn’t have been an interception without interference by Greenway. The only debate is over whether it was PI, holding, or illegal contact. All three of those penalties would have rightfully negated the INT that resulted from interference.

The Gerhart fumble, however, was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen in my life.

Clearly not a Ravens fan so you must be bitter. Steeler fan or Redskins fan? Either way you have a right to be bitter

Colts is a four letter word to them
Wrong. Even the fans around in the 90s have come around.

Cal Ripken and Ray Lewis are viewed as “gods”, and they think they are above everyone else.
True, but not gods per se. More like sports heros and leaders of their teams. By this post aren’t you actually claiming to be above Ravens fans. Hum.

They think every call that doesn’t go their way is the refs just out to screw them over.
As does every fan base. Are you not reading the Vikings posts?

And most of the fan base are fairweather fans.
False. Has actually been proven in a University Study. Google it. NFLs Most Loyal Fans.

Where do I start? First of all, I ve seen the Cowboy game a million times…still don t get all the crying. The 2009 game..much different story. First of all turning the ball over 4 times and having a stupid 12men on the field penalty doesn’t help. And I don t think the NFL screwed anyone over,or tried to give anyone a championship, however, the conspriacy theories will always exist. I do believe the NFL has an agenda and it’s called REVENUE. Favre pulled a lot of crap with GB and the Jets..in fact, alot of people believe he purposely tanked on the Jets to 1. Blow the playoffs, thus not having to give draft pick to GB and 2. Tank so bad in hopes the Jets would release him and he could go back and get his “revenge” on GB. So of course him beingFavre, and the money he brings in,the league allowed him to circumvent the rules and whatever,to get to Minnesota, sell some jerseys, sell some tickets, bring in REVENUE and attention for the desperately seeking attention Viking franchise. He got to the Vikes..the refs let them play, the Williams weren’t suspended, but should of been..and little Bwett gets his revenge. Would ve been a nice story, but the league ,knowing all the crap little Bwett pulled, probably thought the Katrina story was much better ending than Favre winning with the Vikings.

  167. ejmat2 says: Dec 9, 2013 1:51 PM

No one ever said the Vikings didn’t help the Saints win the game. The turnovers were all apart of that. I’m not going to read your long paragraph because I really don’t need to. If you don’t see the offensive PI from the Cowboy game, I’m not sure what you are watching. I bet you didn’t know another fact to that game. Before the hail mary the Cowboys had a 4th and 18 in which they threw to Drew Pearson on the sidelines. He caught the ball but was 2 yards out of bounds. Yet they gave him the catch. It wasn’t even close. Without that so-called catch, the hail mary never happens in the first place. Just another blown call against the Vikings but it’s not okay to mention. The fact is there is a case that Viking fans can make. The NFL sends out apology letters to teams when they screw up calls. Guess what franchise has the most?

Again, I’m not saying this as a bitter Vikes fan. I’m saying it as a more and more suspicious and disillusioned NFL fan. Yesterday’s game was the first time I ever really wondered if the fix was in on an NFL game.

But you ARE bitter..which DOES make you a Viking fan….you guys have been crying since 1961..it s getting old..maybe the NFL is sick of it too, which is why ,maybe, the subconsciously call crap against your team..you act like your re the only ones who ve ever even screwed. Yes, clearly I’m the one who talks like a 5 year old. My point was expressly that bad officiating hurts us all as fans. Drink too much paint thinner at lambeau yesterday? Based on your penchant for run-on sentences and over use of ellipses, I’m going to guess that you also post as cobaltdriver. Either that or you two were in the same A.P. English class.

    @ravensterps
grabbed his hips? cmon. he stuck his arm out as Pitta crossed in front of him. It was a ticky tack call at best and you know it. Especially when you look at the no-call that gave you the SB last year. If we called that kind of contact past 5 yards every time it happened, there would be a foul on every play. Grabbed his hips, smh.

u know whats funny, the Vikings offense stayed on the field after the obvious non fumble by Gerhardt, EVEN the Ravens defense went on the field, this is how obvious the call was, yet morelli overturned it, heck he did not even have to go under the camera to make the right call, just look at the teams players on the field make the correct call alone as they showed replay reviews on screens at the game, that’s pathetic officiating, when the teams already know what the answer is yet the ref still overturns it!

Nobody hates bad calls more than Ravens fans. We’ve seen a million of them and even had NFL rules changed so that the NFL can screw us over again in games (Cleveland Browns loss on a review of a FG kick that was ruled no good on the field with no time left on the clock which BY RULE THEN was NOT REVIEWABLE, but the NFL did it anyway, overruled the call and the Ravens lost, the next day the rule was changed).

I don’t hate Adrian Peterson. He is a premier talent and who wouldn’t LOVE to have him pounding the ball on your team? Especially with our lack-luster running attack this year. I can’t blame him for blaming the officials, they are TERRIBLE and have been for years. Something needs to be done.

As for his comments about us as fans (Baltimore fans) well, I don’t think we were going to make you hot chocolate and make you a bed of roses. This is OUR house not yours. I am sure Minnesota rolls our the red carpet for our Ravens players when they are in town, right? I agree with him about the snowball stuff. That isn’t right and anyone doing it should have been tossed. But, don’t judge a whole group by just a few. I don’t think all Vikings players are bad based on “The Love Boat” incident. Even BALTIMORE gave McKinney a second chance….and then he rewarded us with “The Sweet Pea” incident.

Justifiably so. Unlike the Packer fans that picketed because of one questionable call which was the correct call given the definition of a completed catch.

Gerhart’s knee was CLEARLY down and I don’t see how the ref could have missed it while reviewing the replay. The interference call is questionable, too. Vikings should have won this game. Shame on NFL and the refs. NFL should make refs accountable for their mistakes(?).

  183. bobnelsonjr says: Dec 12, 2013 10:10 PM

    Typical viklings.

Blame something other than the no talent players on the field that lost the game. 50+ years of whining about officiating has caused everyone to tune out vikling whining.

Peterson does not matter. Whether he plays or not has no effect on the game outcome or score. He only matters to children that play “fantasy” football.

As for the viklings draft position, it doesn’t matter because that franchise screws up every draft anyway.
