Chargers build big lead in first half

The Chargers’ slim playoff hopes will be all but extinguished with a loss and they’re doing everything they can to avoid one against the Giants on Sunday.

San Diego leads 24-0 after the first half thanks to an overwhelming performance on both sides of the ball. Philip Rivers has completed 16-of-21 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns, two of them to Keenan Allen. Allen returned from a shoulder injury to catch his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter. Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead have combined to run for 77 yards on 17 carries as the Giants defense appears to have very little ability to compete and/or interest in competing this week.

The same could be said of the Giants offense. They’ve punted three times, been intercepted and lost a fumble in another ineffectual performance in a season filled with them. The Giants haven’t officially been eliminated from playoff contention, but they’re playing like they’ve accepted their fate as something that can’t be changed.

The Chargers have made no such concession, which may not get them to the playoffs but at least they’re going down with a fight.

The Chargers will remain ringless and hopeless no matter what happens today.

Rivers>>>Manning. So obvious to anyone with a brain that its almost not even worth mentioning.

The only thing the Chargers build is false hope.

So this is why Archie didn’t want Eli playing in San Diego.

Giants and Redskins mailed the season in last week and it showed today. Disgraceful efforts by both teams and coaching staffs.

Five decades. No rings. A storied history of consistent failure.

WOW giants acting like they have nothing to play for guess none of them wants to be on a losing team again next year karma Mora? you hate to see a team quit like that

Raider fan cuddles ancient Lombardi memories to breast….mutters to anyone who’ll listen that they’ll be great again someday…..mumbles about cap space next year…..conveniently forgetting the commitment to excrement the team has become.

Eleven straight years without a winning record…..even Charger fans don’t know what that’s like.

    We pity you.

Actually, those of us “with a brain” know it’s all about the rings.

We also know that the Phyllis has zero rings and Eli has two.

Those trophies are old and dusty, but they never expire. We understand how important winning seasons are to you Charger fans, because that is your ceiling.

Every Raiders trophy came before I was born.

But for the last 11 years, they have been the running joke of the league.

In two hundred years, Raiders fans will still be talking about the 1980′s.

The Giants mailed it in. Time to keep a few guys and start over with the rest.

Nobody cares when you were born. And I’ll take “every Raiders trophy” over “empty trophy case” any day.

I heard Athens had a pretty stout Olympic wrestling program a couple thousand years ago. I bet they still cling to that too.

    Pathetic.
