Vikings, Ravens trade four TDs in 82 seconds

Cordarrelle Patterson AP

In a truly remarkable sequence in the snow in Baltimore, the Vikings have lost, retaken, lost and retaken the lead in a span of one minute and 22 seconds.

The Vikings currently hold a 26-22 lead in the final minute after Cordarrelle Patterson scored a 79-yard TD reception.

First, the Ravens took a 15-12 lead with 2:07 left when Joe Flacco hit Dennis Pitta for a one-yard TD on 4th-and-goal from the Minnesota 1.

Secondly, the Vikings struck back with a 41-yard TD run up the middle by Toby Gerhart, which gave Minnesota a 19-15 lead with 1:45 left.

Then, the Ravens counterpunched in dramatic fashion, with Jacoby Jones taking the ensuing kickoff for 77 yards and a touchdown to give the Ravens a 22-19 lead with 1:27 left.

Finally, we had Patterson taking a pass from Matt Cassel and sprinting away for a 79-yard TD.

Wow.

Like that Patriot/Panther superbowl …a long drawn out defensive battle that turns into an epic shootout out of nowhere.

The Vikings undoubtedly played a perfect game.

Flash our potential, play a close game & then lose for a higher draft pick.

This was an overall insanely entertaining game especially towards the end… 5 TDs in 2 minutes wow….

Anyways, Cordarelle Patterson deserves Offensive Rookie of the year… Case closed!

No shame in losing to a Playoff team (Reigning Superbowl Champion) on the road on a last second play outside in the snow when you are a dome team.

Actually feel better about this win than if MN was barely sneaking out a win against a 3 win Dome team at home outside in the elements.

Great game Vikings. Never give up.

Congrats on your 1 point Packer’s win against a 3 win DOME team playing at Lamblow, in the elements. How proud you must be of your team.

  26. tobiasjodter says: Dec 8, 2013 4:37 PM

Flacco and Ravens beneficiaries of yet another bogus PI call. Is there any game in the last 3 years that Flacco hasn’t gotten a PI? PI is Flacco’s best play.

  27. balfe13 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:38 PM

How was that last touchdown ruled a catch? The ball clearly moved when he hit the ground; the NFL really needs to find some uniformity when it comes to those calls.

  28. mediasloppy says: Dec 8, 2013 4:38 PM

It would be ironic if Patterson did get Rookie of the Year since he’s Percy Harvin’s replacement who also got Rookie of the Year.

That game was a roller-coaster. I had to laugh at Jacoby Jones kick return and the commentator said something like, that’s what happens when you don’t have someone standing close to the sideline.

  29. tokyosandblaster says: Dec 8, 2013 4:39 PM

The Vikes lost. No big shocker. The packers won!

The Lions also lost, so technically speaking, the Packers are still in contention for the Division. Does that add insult to injury, Vikings “fans”?

Even with today’s game, Patterson has less than 500 yards receiving and rushing combined.

Which is less than half of what Eddie Lacy has.

  35. trekker38 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:46 PM

You people knocking on the Ravens need to actually watch the games. There were a TON of non calls, on both sides of the ball. The Vikings and the Ravens played crazy football in the last couple minutes. You should be saying what a great finish to a game, and instead you’re crying because your own teams are out of the playoffs. Enjoy crying from the sidelines in January. What a great game, for both the Vikings and the Ravens. Last possession won the game, and not until then… Awesome.

  36. frank booth says: Dec 8, 2013 4:47 PM

Minnesota Vikings- Leading the NFL in moral victories since 1961.

The reason the Vikings don’t win is because their fans accept their mediocrity- look at the posts above- Viking fans make excuses for the Vikings at all levels and confuse ineptitude with “fighting hard”.

The Vikings let the game slip out of their hands twice.

Instead of demanding changes, Vikings fans say “hooray”.

  37. edgarpoe3 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:47 PM

Well, Flacco earned his money today. In terrible conditions, he brought his team back, not once, but two times (Jacoby Jones had one there in the middle. There will be those who once again are blinded by stats and such; but those who understand football – the game- as opposed to those who know only fantasy and never actually played the game, know that this definitely was a great performance.

Also, having Pitta back was a key too.

  38. filthymcnasty1 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:48 PM

Today gave me many laughs. Thank you Vikings!

  39. banlarson says: Dec 8, 2013 4:48 PM

Couldn’t have asked for a better game. This team just doesn’t quit and for that we thank you Leslie. However, with the season over, the loss was the best outcome for a future franchise QB. The difference in these two teams is one has one and the other does not. Its unfortunate, but this clinches the removal of the Vikings coaching staff and a fresh start next year with a top 3 pick (I don’t think Atlanta or Houston will win again, they are truly pathetic.)

Great game though, one to keep in the DVR all off season.

  40. trekker38 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:48 PM

Oh, and there was some bad weather in Baltimore. Not a good day to “rate passer ratings,” as the announcer’s pointed out. You guys should listen to the games while you are attempting to watch….

  41. edgarpoe3 says: Dec 8, 2013 4:48 PM

After further review, there was no coach on the sidelines to interfere with Jacoby Jones’s kickoff return. TD BALTIMORE!

  42. Joemontanaflacco says: Dec 8, 2013 4:49 PM

Flacco is the man! 80 yards in 40 seconds! Great play by Jones on that non-coach-interfering kickoff return and Marlon Brown on that clutch catch with just ten seconds left. What a game! What a team!

  43. frank booth says: Dec 8, 2013 4:52 PM

  46. purpleattack says: Dec 8, 2013 4:55 PM

  47. boobschannel says: Dec 8, 2013 4:55 PM

well, we know for sure that this officiating crew has without question blown any opportunity they might have had at the superbowl.

how you can miss that gerhart fumble call is mind boggling, considering they even had a commercial break, and thus plenty of time, to get it right.

    The queens are soft!

  49. hazelmn says: Dec 8, 2013 4:56 PM

That was a horrible call on Greenway…. not even a judgment call that could have gone either way…. but just a flat out wrong call.

With that said, sure is fun to watch Cordarelle. He may not have the hands of Moss, but he has the speed and a much better attitude. I’ll take it. Our #1 receiver for the next 10 years.

I know this season is lost, but there are a few young guys here who you can build around. This offseason, they need to not re-sign anyone who is older than 28 and stockpile draft picks. That will give them a couple shots while AP is still in his window.

  50. lennylyles says: Dec 8, 2013 4:56 PM

We have seen this scene so many times. 9 seconds to go and Joe Flacco throws another clutch TD pass. Next to Brady maybe the most clutch quarterback in the game. 18 game winning drives!!! Still remember that 90 yard TD drive vs the Steelers with 1:30 to go at Pittsbugh. He is Joe Cool!

  51. frank booth says: Dec 8, 2013 5:00 PM

This was the Vikings Super Bowl- playing against last year’s defending champs.

And the Vikings came in 2nd.

    Again.

But the Vikings don’t stop fighting. Neither do all of the other teams in the NFL. The difference is that sometimes those other teams fight and win.

  52. msmith954 says: Dec 8, 2013 5:00 PM

Terrible refereeing. The Ravens first TD was a gift from the head ref who failed to see an obvious knee down on a replay… ruled to uphold the fumble call and give the ball to the Ravens. There was an interference call on Greenway that was ridiculous… an illegal block call that was dubious, and the phantom PI against Blanton… all broke to the Ravens.

  53. loyalraven says: Dec 8, 2013 5:04 PM

Boohoo, I love it when weaker fans cry.. their tears taste so sweet!

Hey stay guy – since u like spitting out numbers..what’s Joe Flaccos clutch rating?? Must be on a million by now. Seriously, when everythings on the line who in the NFL has been more clutch than Joe Flacco? Down 4 points in the final minute of the game Joe Flacco goes 80 yards, in 42 seconds, with 4 first downs and scores theTD to win the game with :04 seconds left on the clock

W is the only stat that matters. On a sidenote lol @ the steelers.

    ————————————————–

Same ref as the 09 NFC championship game against the saints. The more you know…

And you can say what you want about missed calls on both sides, but that is every football game. It isn’t often that you get flagrant misses against one team i.e. the gerhart fumble, the umpire who threw the flag signaling holding that turned into PI (and it was holding but that is a huge difference), and that “first down” before the pitta TD where the red line was 2 yards away from the spot (coulda been a first as that line isn’t official but i’ve never seen it two yards off). Congrats to the Ravens but I’d rather have the replacement refs back than pete morelli

  55. jschmus says: Dec 8, 2013 5:07 PM

It’s tough to root for my team to lose, but slowly they move up the draft ranks. Although I hate the eagles ( I live on PA), the Vikings should lose next week and the redskins play the falcons. One of this teams get a win and the Vikings move up another spot. All you Vikings fan wanting to draft a QB with that first pick is a mistake. Take Clowney with their first pick and come back and get the QB in the second!!!!!

  56. edgarpoe3 says: Dec 8, 2013 5:10 PM

The refs definitely missed the fumble play early in the game, even after the review. But, the crew missed several other calls too. But when two refs can miss a coach right in front of them coming onto the sidelines where a returner is running, I guess it’s par for the course.

It’s time we step up and make refs accountable; but in order to do so, we fans need to be consistent and honest as well, no matter which team gets the favorable calls.
