Welker’s concussion doesn’t slow Broncos down

Not only was it cold, but the Broncos were also shorthanded.

But quarterback Peyton Manning is operating at such a high level right now, it doesn’t appear there’s much that can slow him down.

With temperatures in the teens and wide receiver Wes Welker leaving the game in the second quarter with a concussion, the Broncos didn’t miss a beat, beating the Titans 51-28. That moves them to 11-2, a game ahead of the Patriots for the top spot in the AFC playoff chase.

Manning’s 58 attempts were a career high, and he completed 38 of them for 390 yards and four touchdowns.

The Broncos already had four players with at least 10 touchdowns each (Welker, Knowshon Moreno, Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas), and wide receiver Eric Decker’s closing in on it with eight.

Throw in kicker Matt Prater kicking a league-record 64-yard field goal, and the offense was practically perfect.

The concussion for Welker is his second this month, which will bring his status for Thursday’s game against the Chargers into question. Welker took a hard shot from Titans safety George Wilson just before halftime, and didn’t return.

The Titans actually held the lead at halftime, but their physical style faded in the second half, which was primarily because of Manning. At 5-8, their chances are effectively over.

  1. Can we talk a little bit about how Peyton has 45 touchdowns and 4500+ yards at his age and with three weeks to go?

I know we’ve had some record fatigue here lately but it seems like TDs and maybe yardage will fall.

  2. Yeah their O is okay…

I’m sure we’ll hear how Manning can’t play in the cold even though it was really cold in Denver today and the Titans have a pretty good D.

We’ll also hear caseyanthonymunoz say that he can’t win in the playoffs, well he did a pretty good job of shooting down one myth today and in January he’s gonna shoot down the other. Can’t wait to read “yeah but he’s only 12-11 in the playoffs” next season!

  3. Let’s see…low teens to start the game single digits at the start of the 4th qtr. Good thing Manning can’t play in cold weather or it could have 7 TD’s.

Also, big congrats to Matt Prater for his NFL record kick.

  4. 13 DEGREES FELT LIKE 6 DEGREES :

PASSES FOR 397 & 4 TOUCHDOWNS 0 INTERCEPTIONS.WAS ABLE TO THROW BEYOND TEN YARDS. SO MANNING CAN THROW IN COLD. SO YOU CAN ARGUE THIS BUT BOTTOM LINE THE STATS TODAY SHOWS HE CAN SO IT. HE NEEDS THE ENTIRE TEAM TO PUTCH IN BUT IT CAN BE DONE. LETS SEE HOW HE DOES IN PLAYOFFS AT HOME WHILE OUTSIDE AS TO PLAYING IN PLAYOFFS OUSIDE ON THE ROAD!!

  5. I know Bronco fans are considered the biggest bandwagoners in the game, but these poor dopes don’t get it. Pretty sure most of them haven’t watched enough football to realize that Peyton plays well in the regular season and chokes when it matters. 9-11 in the playoffs. Wake up, kids.

  6. Remember 16 months ago all those guys who were on here saying Peyton was washed up and the first hit he took his neck would snap?

17 games in a row with more than 25 points

Wow are those guys eating crow.

  7. “LETS SEE HOW HE DOES IN PLAYOFFS AT HOME WHILE OUTSIDE AS TO PLAYING IN PLAYOFFS OUSIDE ON THE ROAD!!”

Well, the Broncos won’t be on the road until the Super Bowl, so I guess I missed your point.

Well, well, well I wondered when you would come out from under your rock. Speaking of choking, have ya had dinner yet??

  9. To all the anti Peyton people who talk about the weather slowing him down; eat that! If you watched the game, the receivers are the ones who had a problem. On one possession, Decker could not get in the end zone, DT, dropped a touch down and Welker dropped a TD. The Sheriff was ice-cold and red-hot today and the Broncos D will keep any team in the game as freakin usual!

  10. with gronk out, i don’t see anybody beating the broncos. they’ll go to the superbowl. absolute certainty. there is no afc competition outside maybe cincy (new england won’t overcome that gronk injury, and has beaten manning twice in a row, so i don’t see three in a row happening, especially in denver).

the question is, which nfc teams can score and contain peyton manning? the nfc is the better conference with more productive quarterbacks than the afc (seattle, san fran, NO, carolina, phili, dallas) but are very up and down in their offense production.

broncos have a porous defense that can be scored on but…manning puts up so many points i don’t see anybody beating him. and i say ‘him’ because, lets be honest, peyton manning is the denver broncos. the rest are just beneficiaries of his dominance.

  11. Isn’t this like Welker’s 10th or 11th concussion this year alone? Don’t come crying 5 years from now Wes when you can’t remember your name or where you live.

Didn’t we hear this crap last year?

  13. Denver Offense worth… a Billion Dollars

Finding a consistent Defense that can hold and play a complete game… Priceless

It’s a good thing the Broncos average 39 points per game…. their defense assures that they need about EVERY ONE of those points.

  14. I love how a guy would have the gall to call Denver fans bandwagon fans…
This fan base had to deal with Josh Mcdaniels, Kyle Orton, And the ridicule of being Tebow fans… Yet we are band wagon fans?!?!? I guess the the person who made this great comment not only have a special place reserved in the short bus, but also must have needed a friend to type the comment.

  15. Bronco’s firing on all cylinders. They are the team to beat in the AFC. Manning playing at a level even he hasn’t played at before. Bronco’s chances increase even more if Gronk out for season. Cold weather games? Whatever. His blemish is his 9-11 playoff record, but then again, how many times did he take a team to the playoffs that would not have been there without him? I say this and I’m not really a Bronco fan. It’s just the truth.

  16. Wow…I just can’t over how Manning dominated that powerful 5-8 titans team, at home no less! He’s certainly destined to win his 4.5 MVP this year.
