Tyrann Mathieu suffers torn ACL and LCL

You didn’t need to see Cardinals rookie Tyrann Mathieu go down to know it was bad.

Tests have confirmed it’s perhaps worse than it looked.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Mathieu tore both the ACL and the LCL in yesterday’s ugly collision.

Tearing multiple ligaments complicates any recovery, so it might not be as simple as assuming he’ll be well when the Cardinals start back next summer.

Mathieu was blossoming into a playmaker for the Cardinals, justifying the third-round draft pick, as be could play safety and cover slot receivers.

I really hope he keeps his head straight off of the field. I enjoyed following this kid and seeing him turn his life around. I hope he has a clean and healthy recovery.

As we’re now seeing with the likes of Tyrann Mathieu and Vontaze Burfict, character concerns are NOT concern. Speedy recovery to you Tyrann

Now is going to be a real test of this kid’s character. Being laid up gives one idle time. I hope he’s got PP in his ear off the field, too. Really want this kid to succeed. He’s got exciting talent and a nose for the ball.

saw it live and when he was fighting to go down and then it turned into a dog pile, he had no chance – smallest guy in the pile and was twisted like a pretzel – what was he doing in a 2 point punt return team? that is the craziest play in football – you get two points and you get rewarded with 10 crazy maniacs running to chop your head off and you put a 5′ 8″ 185 lb guy back there who is a safety/cover corner that you stole in the 3rd round?

Ahernandez also had character concerns. No worries though, right?

Best wishes for a quick and full recovery.

As a fan of a team now in double-digits of guys on IR, I hate seeing anybody go down. I’m not sure I’d hold out for sympathy from NE fans, though, since no team ever suffers as greatly as they do.

Time to go after Taylor Mays in free agency. Also, his teammate Michael Johnson. Take a look into Jimmy graham

He’s really young so he’ll probably recover fine.

Wishing the Honey Badger a full and speedy recovery. He has really stepped up to the plate being in the NFL and I am glad that the Arizona Cardinals took a chance on him. All of the LSU faithful are pulling for you, Tyrann!!

As the leader of Ravens Nation, I take this time to laugh at the Cardinals franchise.

ouch eh.. he sucks anyways. lsu nation stand pround

He will never recover. This is why we didn’t draft him. As the world turns.

Hella unfortunate. He was on his way to being a great player. I wanted the Browns to draft him but we took Leon McFadden who was called for PI in the Patriots game yesterday. He would have been nice in Cleveland as either a crner or a FS.

  24. whereyaat says: Dec 9, 2013 3:18 PM

That’s unfortunate, he was a key cog in the Cardinals machine that has put up a better record than the Steelers and Ravens, despite playing in a far tougher division.

Hopefully he stays away from trouble while he is away from football. Maybe he should give Adrian Pederson a call.

I have been pleasantly surprised with his on field performance and a lack of off the field headlines. Best of luck kid. Hope you heal quickly and remain focused on football.
