Seattle loss isn’t enough to knock them out of the top spot

Seahawks AP

Yeah, the Seahawks lost to the 49ers in what likely will be the next-to-last game ever played at Candlestick Park.

But the gap between the Seahawks and the rest of the field was large enough to allow them to keep their spot atop the brand new PFT power rankings.

I was tempted to hold Richard Sherman’s better-at-life-sore-loser routine against the team.  But even with Sherman balancing his bad winner act by being a bad loser, the Seahawks remain the best team in the league.

It will be a major upset if the Seahawks aren’t the NFC’s representative in the Super Bowl.  And it will be a surprise if they fail to beat whoever the AFC puts into the game.

No, but a visit by the NFL to check all their players for PED’s would be.

    Just do it.

  2. explosionsauce says: Dec 10, 2013 8:25 AM

Can’t wait for the niners or whoever the Seahawks play first to come in there and shock the media. The 49ers who played in Seattle earlier this year don’t exist anymore. 49ers back in the Super Bowl, mark it dude!

  3. seattlerogueburner says: Dec 10, 2013 8:48 AM

The Hawks were too egotistical, and the Seattle fans riled the 49ers up too much. Hawks gotta remember they’re not immortal and every game needs to be taken seriously. And knock off the penalties. And Sherman, just keep the mouth shut till we win that trophy.

  4. bucrightoff says: Dec 10, 2013 8:58 AM

Newsflash to joetoronto: Every team has guys who do PEDs. Its not a Seahawks specific thing, and if you think players on your favourite team aren’t doing them you’re delusional. If the NFL actually tested for all PEDs the NFL would shutter operations.

  5. seahawksbmx says: Dec 10, 2013 9:21 AM

I assume because of their reputation, the Seahawks are already tested are tested more often than every other team if that’s allowed. If not, test them daily. I’ll take it a step further. Test the Seahawks daily and permit every other team to take Adderall. We’ll still beat your drum. The Hawks are where they are because of great drafting, (mostly) great coaching, a great young QB, and players buying into Pete’s “rah rah” style that many said wouldn’t work in the NFL. I get it; seen it with the Pats over the past decade…when you’re good, you get the hate. No need to be disingenuous though. The Seahawks aren’t winning because of some miracle pill and our home field advantage isn’t because of piped in noise. The Kingdome was notoriously loud, Husky Stadium is loud, and Autzen Stadium down in Eugene is loud. It’s a Northwest thing; you wouldn’t understand.

I love how you continue to say “it’ll be a surprise if whoever the AFC puts out there wins”. Until 2 days ago when Gronk got hurt, the Pats were a legit contender. And the Broncos? You spent the first 6 weeks of the season writing about how they were “clearly the best in football” and that no one else was even close. Now you’re at the point where youll consider it an upset if the Denver Broncos- who have the same record, and not only that, but also share a loss to the same opponent- loses to Seattle?

I hope that does happen, so then I can see you be the first person in history of the world to consider a 14-2 team winning the superbowl an upset.

    Glorified practice smdh…

  8. osiris33 says: Dec 10, 2013 10:17 AM

Please 0-9ers fans, put a cork in it. The real score of that game was 17-9, Seahawks. The refs gifted you 10 points and stopped 3 other Seahawks drives with phantom penalties. You don’t have a chance of winning in Seattle. The Seahawks know it, the 0-9ers know it, and you know it.

    So give it a rest.

  9. dukeearl says: Dec 10, 2013 10:17 AM

Actually I doubt the players care or notice what the fans say.
Seattle outplayed the niners for all but one play really.
Congrats to the niners for making the best of it.

@iloveagoodnap – the 1998 Falcons were 14-2 and were big SB underdogs, so no, this would not be “the first person in the history of the world to consider a 14-2 team winning the superbowl an upset.” I assume you’re a Broncos fan? You should know that.

First team to ever lose a glorified practice, huh Richard…

  12. beastmode5150 says: Dec 10, 2013 10:41 AM

It shouldn’t be, anyone that isn’t a blind homer knows Seattle is the best team, even leading the league in injuries and suspensions. Seattle does their best to allow other teams to pass them, but they are just too damn deep.

  13. 5to46hawkfan says: Dec 10, 2013 10:48 AM

They can predict all they want…. We all know the superbowls have been with teams we thought, ” how in the world did they make it to the SB?” Let’s just hope the rest of the season is as exciting as this last Sunday… Pretty intense ballin going on.
And please stop with the PED talk… It’s getting old… Baseball, basketball, tennis, bicycling, etc…. All have their drug issues.
Can we just watch great football and appreciate the awesome game that it is… Throw in great players like Calvin Johnson, Payton Manning, dangerusswilson, Tom Brady, Leshaun McCoy, beast mode lynch, etc…. Then we sit back and say, ” wow, this truly is the greatest game on earth…isn’t it?

  14. 5to46hawkfan says: Dec 10, 2013 10:50 AM

Oh yeah….GO HAWKS.!!!!! Lol forgot that part
And so many other great players I forgot to mention
AP, RG, FGore, V Davis, Eli manning, Big Ben ev etc

DRY YOUR WEEPING EYES, Seahawks fans !!

    You’re a good team
Maybe the best (or maybe second best)

    But, you’re not invincible
I’m Glad the 49ers kicked your fannies

    Better luck next time

    …………………
I am not a Broncos fan, Im just baffled by the hipocrisy.

Seattle and Denver have the same record, and have both looked dominant for the majority of the season, with the exception of when they each played the colts. THey have the same record. The point is that a Broncos fan winning the superbowl would NOT in any way, shape, or form be an upset. And anyone who thinks otherwise is not being realistic and/or is blinded by their bias.

It’s not as if the Broncos have barely gotten to their record, in fact, the Seahawks have had several more close calls against lesser opponents than have the Broncos.

Therefore, I stand by my stance- it is absolutely ludicrous to even suggest the Broncos winning the superbowl would be an upset.

  17. hoppylegs says: Dec 10, 2013 11:44 AM

I don’t like that Sherman complained about the calls, because it always makes a bad impression. However, this morning I saw a photo showing Sherman being obviously held (by an outstretched arm) as he was moving to tackle Frank Gore a step or two after Gore went into his cut on that 51-yard run. And the ref was standing right there. I can see why Sherman would have felt like there was a double standard that affected the outcome of the game.

Of course, even if the hold hadn’t occurred (or had been called), the Niners could still have hit a pass or two and moved into field goal range after that. So can’t say for sure Seattle would have won if not for that no-call. But I get why he was upset.

Try not to get blown out in Seattle (if you even make the playoffs) before you talk.

    kicked your fannies? eh?
49ers won by only 2 in their own home, thats considered kicking “fannie”?

what did you consider the loss SF took in Seattle earlier this year? I would tell you but I’m sure it would get deleted.

  21. sweetnlow44 says: Dec 10, 2013 3:36 PM

The reason the Seahawks are getting the nod over the Broncos is because the Seahawks have a decent/good offense and great defense. The Broncos have a great offense, but NO defense. It’d be a good game.

The Seahawks may be considered the best (or at least one of the best) right now, but ultimately, it usually comes down to who gets hot at the right time.

  22. sweetnlow44 says: Dec 10, 2013 3:39 PM

Oh, and 49er fans. You beat Seattle by 2 at home on a last second field goal in a game that you needed a lot more than the Seahawks did. Pump the brakes a little bit. You have a good team, but at least try and be a little reasonable and keep things in perspective.

  23. boyshole25 says: Dec 10, 2013 4:49 PM

Both great teams. But the fans make it tough to root for the niners or Seahawks

Hey sweetnlow, hawks have a decent offense? Do me a favor, go to the NFL stats, click on points per game, and let us know where Seattle ranks. For giggles, click on defensive points per game too, hint, the rank is the same.
