Matt Prater wins AFC special teams player of week

Some weeks, it’s hard to find a special teams player of the week, and they end up giving it to a punter for something thrilling like dropping three inside the 20.

This week, it was the choice between an all-time record and a performance that was close.

Broncos kicker Matt Prater earned AFC special teams player of the week honors, after hitting a league-record 64-yard field goal just before halftime against the Titans.

That broke the old record of 63 held by four guys, and helped propel the Broncos to a dominant second half.

But there were other performances that could have easily won the award. Chiefs return man Dexter McCluster had 177 yards worth of punt returns, including a 74-yard touchdown. Most weeks, that would have earned a little extra notice on Wednesday.

All the great kick returns this week… in the snow… and he wins one for kicking a ball in the mile high air?

Seriously? A kicker? The league certainly does slurp some donkey nuts… Great job!

What a joke. 1 kick versus what McCluster (or others) did. No wonder everyone hates the Broncos and their front office drunks

It’s “Special Team player of the week”. This weekly honor often goes to kickers, sometimes punters. Relax.

Not bad for an ex-Lion, I wish we had a young promising kicker.

Is there an echo in here, just said basically the same thing about McCown.

The Donkeys are the best, in the regular season.

Ok, let me get this straight. The Special Teams award goes to a Kicker who just kicked the longest Field Goal in the History of the NFL? Not only that, He was 3-3 on Field Goals and 6-6 on extra point contributing 15 points to his team this week?

Ok, let me put this as eloquently as possible, using one of the most common words in the English Language.

    “DUH”

All McCluster did was come within 35 yards of breaking the all time record for punt returns in a game…..in 16 minutes. But ya, Prater probably deserved it for something Seabass could do with one leg tied behind his back.

One great kick is nice and all, but Sergio Brown of the Colts should have won it. Downed two punts inside the five and a third one tapped it back onto the field of play from the EZ so a teammate could down it at the three.

Ya this one is a joke

This asterisk kick is a joke. Any decent kicker in the league should be able to kick that in the pile high altitude. Kickers numbers have always been inflated in that dump.

Tom Dempsy kicked the real record at below sea level altitude with half a foot.

You guys that don’t like this: can you kick a field of any length in nasty weather at any altitude? Didn’t think so. He scored 15 points for his team as well. A run back only scores 6.
