Rodgers needs clean scan to play, “not sure” if one is scheduled

Aaron Rodgers Shea McClellin AP

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that quarterback Aaron Rodgers did more and looked better at practice than he did on Wednesday, something the quarterback agreed with when he spoke to the media later in the day.

As for what that means for his chances of playing, Rodgers said there were two conditions that needed to be met before he would be in the lineup. He would need to get the majority of the first-team reps and that he’d need a clean bill of health from an imaging scan of his left collarbone. Rodgers was cagey when asked if another test of that nature was scheduled for this week.

“I’m not sure about that,” Rodgers said, via Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin.

Rodgers likely knows whether or not there’s going to be another scan and McCarthy said that he would be evaluated medically again on Friday, but Rodgers probably doesn’t feel like the Cowboys need to know how realistic it is that he returns to the lineup one way or the other at this point in the week. The Packers will likely make their decision about starting Rodgers or Flynn on Friday, which means that Dallas and the rest of us won’t have to wait too much longer.

He may as well play, they didn’t come close to even touching McCown on Monday night. He’s safe…

  2. tokyosandblaster says: Dec 12, 2013 4:30 PM

It has to be so disheartening for teams like Minnesota to realize that if Rodgers had thrown a pass opposite handed, just after he had injured that shoulder, he would still be able to throw it farther and more accurately than anyone on the Vikings roster.

Also, it has to be even more disheartening when they realize that Adrian Peterson is on the decline, and his window to win a Super Bowl has already closed.

Here’s what the Pack should do.
Don’t tell us if/when Air-Run is good to go.
Have him suit up on game day anyway to psyche out the other team.
And when he is ready, have Flynn go out there and take the first two snaps then put Air-Run in.

  8. 4gone says: Dec 12, 2013 4:39 PM

This smells of a bad ruse. The decision he was going to play was made the minute the Pack beat Atlanta and the Lions lost to Eagles. Look at the stories from this past week – practiced without pain, practiced but had pain, not medically cleared, took first team reps. They are screwing with Dallas by saying “not medically cleared” knowing he will be. “not sure” if there is another scan this week Aaron. Right.

  13. trollsetter says: Dec 12, 2013 4:55 PM

Maybe if Rodgers was out for 2-4 weeks it would have made a different. Yeah, they would have gone 0-4, but at least they would of had a shot at the playoffs.

  14. grabgrabgrab says: Dec 12, 2013 4:55 PM

Per Rogers, the scans are performed on Wednesdays and Fridays. I’m certain there is going to be a scan tomorrow. It doesn’t help the GB cause to divulge such information though. Mums the word, and rightfully so.

As a vik (kings of the north) fan I can rest easy knowing my team is far superior to the “team” they field over in fatsconsin.

I can’t think of a position, other than qb, where the fackers have the upperhand on the vikings.

Too bad we dont get to play those clowns again, and send Sharon out with another papercut.

Honestly I could play every position better than any packer on their entire roster, and I’m a parapalegic.

  40. allday420ap says: Dec 12, 2013 7:08 PM

    What the peckers need:
    -Their moronic fans money
-A new player at every position
    -Class
    -Dignity
    -Respectability
-To smoke some weed, and get a grip
    -To stop being inbred
-To grow a pair, or 2

What the Vik(kings of the north) need:
    -Perhaps a new practice facility?

  41. allday420ap says: Dec 12, 2013 7:09 PM

  42. fartweasel says: Dec 12, 2013 7:15 PM

It should actually be a good game to watch. Lots of offense and scoring as both defenses suck. 45 – 38 Dallas wins with home field advantage.

  43. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Dec 12, 2013 8:20 PM

  44. tokyosandblaster says: Dec 12, 2013 8:49 PM

It’s so cute when Vikings fans claim superiority for anything.

Clearly these people should be locked away as a danger to society.

These are also the people who dress up as Harry Potter for no reason whatsoever, and believe that Frodo really saved the world.

  45. purpleguy says: Dec 12, 2013 9:09 PM

Ah let him play, the Lions are choking their NFCN title away anyhow. What’s the worst thing that happens — Pack fans become deluded enough to think they can make the playoffs and a playoff run only to get squashed back into reality shortly thereafter? Trash us Viking fans all you want, but most have at least have accepted the harsh reality of our team’s 2013 suckiness.

  46. speakadatrut says: Dec 12, 2013 9:21 PM

Hoping the Packers make the playoffs…it’ll make great comedy watching them get destroyed in the playoffs!

  47. whatjusthapped says: Dec 12, 2013 9:42 PM

I wonder if these Rodgers stories draw the Viking trolls like flies on a cow pie because:

1.) He is so much better than Ponder or Cassel?

    or

2> The Vikings had two chances to draft Rodgers and passed for players that didn’t last more than a season or two?

I tend to think its both but the fact that Rodgers has won more Superbowls in the last 3 years than the Vikings have in their history has something to do with it.

  48. f1restarter says: Dec 12, 2013 9:58 PM

So much jealousy and bitterness from Viking fans around here. You can just cut it with a knife.

They’re disappointed because Aaron Rodgers signed a long-term contract with the Packers, and will therefore not be signing with Minnesota next year. The Vikings will be stuck with inferior QBs such as Ponder, Cassel, Freeman, and whichever first-round bust Spielman drafts in 2014.
