Aaron Rodgers out again this week, Eddie Lacy probable

Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn AP

It’s another week without Aaron Rodgers for the Packers.

The team has ruled Rodgers out for the sixth straight game because of a broken left collarbone, leaving Matt Flynn to start against the Cowboys in a game the Packers need to win in order to have realistic hopes of making the playoffs. Coach Mike McCarthy said that Rodgers was upset by the decision, but that he feels it’s the right decision for the organization.

“It’s been a difficult morning going through the conversation with Aaron and Dr. [Patrick] McKenzie,” McCarthy said in his Friday press conference. “[Rodgers] feels like he’s ready to play. He’s very disappointed, he’s frustrated. Speaking with Dr. McKenzie, this is the right decision.”

While it isn’t the decision any Packers fan wanted to hear, it’s hardly an unexpected one given the fact that Rodgers wasn’t cleared medically earlier this week. At this point, it appears to be a decision based on imaging of the injury and there’s nothing anyone with the team can do to make that go their way.

There was better news regarding running back Eddie Lacy. Lacy returned to practice on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury and he’s listed as probable for Sunday.

    This isn’t a terrible thing.

Eddie Lacy gets more time to spend at McDonalds and get all the Bic Macs he wants.

Aaron Rodgers gets to go on more dates with Ryan Brain.

So it’s a win/win situation for both players.

Obviously the Packers are an organization that cares about the health and well being of it’s players.

Poor, sorry, pathetic Viking fans. So much jealousy. So much bitterness toward their betters.

What’s really sad is that one of the great running backs of our generation, Adrian Peterson, will forever be deprived of knowing what it feels like to win a championship title.

This season is already shot. You can flush the next two years down the toilet too, since they’ll be playing outside (Viking players don’t have the mental toughness to play in the cold, unless they’re former Packers). By then AP will be 31 and ready to retire.

Aaron Rodgers, who won’t play this week but has a long bright career ahead of him, will hoist that shiny Lombardi Trophy several more times at least.

    Perhaps even this year.

Agree on Manning, RGIII and Vick, however you’re just a troll if you think Foles and Rodgers are overrated.

Foles is 7-1 this season with 20:1 TD:Int ratio.

Rodgers is a top 5 QB and you can see how bad Green Bay is without him based on their 1-3-1 record with Wallace, Tolzien, and Flynn at QB.

  17. weepingjebus says: Dec 13, 2013 2:13 PM

  23. habsfanatic says: Dec 13, 2013 2:21 PM

A broken collarbone usually takes a good six weeks to heal and even then it remains sensitive and can break more easily if you fall and land on your shoulder. Not much Aaron or the team can do, just gotta wait!

  24. hernandez0792 says: Dec 13, 2013 2:22 PM

  25. fartweasel says: Dec 13, 2013 2:22 PM

Doesn’t matter who plays QB for Green Bay, it’s gonna be a shootout for the offenses against two very bad defensive teams. It makes no sense to throw Rodgers out there when their defense can’t stop anyone, especially on the road. Cowboys win by 4.

  26. shaggytoodle says: Dec 13, 2013 2:24 PM

Cue the trolls caling Rodgers soft… even if the Packers lose that doesn’t give the division away the other teams need to win as well.

Most of those fans are just jelous because the Packers had 2 qbs lead them to a superbowl in the past 20 years.

  27. dragonfly99 says: Dec 13, 2013 2:25 PM

  28. dahmergeinteam says: Dec 13, 2013 2:26 PM

  29. liquidzoo says: Dec 13, 2013 2:28 PM

As a Bears fan, I approve of this.

Don’t get me wrong, Rodgers is a good QB, but we see just how mediocre Green Bay is without him.

Not having a solid backup in place was a horrible move on their part. You never want your starter to go down, but you need to at least have confidence in your backup (Nick Foles is a great example of this).

  30. deweyaxewound says: Dec 13, 2013 2:29 PM

After the primetime humiliation at the hands of the Bears and full week of the national sports media and the rest of the country making wise cracks and taking cheap shots at the Dallas defense, I’m going to bet that they actually circle their psychological wagons and use all the mockery and abuse to rally around.

In fact, I’m going to bet they have a big game (at home) against a struggling team and its back-up QB.

While both teams are desperate right now – only one is fueled by injured pride.

It also helps that they’re back on home turf, and out of the planet Hoth-like hell of a -9 degree nightmare.

Cowboys win big, in large part to their defense. You heard it here first.

Instead of basking in the glow of the short-term and temporary downslide of the Packers, you fans of every team that has a legitimate, difference-making QB, should sit up and take note. Your team’s season….and judging from the ignorance of many of the comments, 8 months of your own personal self-worth…rests precariously on the health of that QB. One unlucky fall or pile-up and poof….season’s over.

For those of you whose team doesn’t have a difference-maker at QB….and that includes at least 20 teams….sit back down and remind yourself you’re only trying to share in your own misery. On the scale of pathetic, that stuff really moves the needle.

“America’s Team is God’s Team” says Rodgers is “overrated”.

Really? Here are a few of the thing’s people have based their “overrating” on:

    - Highest career passer rating in regular season with a minimum of 1,500 passing attempts (105.2)
    - Only quarterback in history to have a career passer rating of over 100.0
    - Best touchdown to interception ratio in NFL history (186:50)
    - Only player in NFL history to pass for over 4,000 yards in each of the first two seasons as a starting QB

The most epic of all moments in Vikings history will be when Minnesota hosts the Packers in the new open top tuna can late in the year and like 12 Vike fans show up and it turns into another home game for the Packers year in and year out going forward. Won’t happen, you say?
    Hahahahaha….Don’t kid yourself.

hes been in the league for 9 seasons drafted 05 so whats the deal?

If you want absolute correct grammar, then it’s:

“He’s been in the league for nine seasons. He was drafted in 2005, so what’s the deal?”

Don’t worry, somehow I was still able to understand your ramblings.

So, now you expect Rodgers to beat out Farve when Rodgers was only a rookie and Farve was a firmly established starter? Come on, dude. You are looking dumber and dumber with every post.

Bla bla bla – everyone knows that the only thing the packers are playing for is a huge disappointment in the wild card round and thats even IF they make it there. 1 win in 7 weeks and you get all excited. BTW, you beat a pathetic Falcons team by ONE POINT, nothing much to hang your hat on.

I won’t call you a liar, but I honestly don’t recall any Packers fans guaranteeing a Super Bowl title this year.

What I do recall is countless Vikings fans who, after a 10-6 season last year, were fully confident in a 13 win season, including a deep playoff run.

I guess there’s still a remote chance that those optimistic Packers fans predictions can come true, so at least all Packers fans can hold onto that.

This should finish off the season. Dallas defense is bad. But I just cant see Flynn winning on the road this week.
I would sit Aaron for the rest of the season. Unless both Chicago, and Detroit lose this week.
That is the only way I bring him back.

    ————————————————–

Packer fans sure are two faced.

Back in 1996, when Favre had his seizure and ended up in the ER, all we heard from the fans of the green and gold were he had become addicted to the pain killers that the Packer medical staff gave him and it was an illness.

Now they claim that Farve would only be playing if he “on painkillers”.

Funny thing – Favre went through rehab in 1996 and was never on painkillers again.

That includes playing with a broken right thumb (and a myriad of other injuries) – you know – the hand that he throws the ball with…

    - Only player in NFL history to pass for over 4,000 yards in each of the first two seasons as a starting QB
    —————————————————-

Not every QB gets to ride the pine for 3 years while watching an NFL legend.

And let’s talk about how Rodgers in his 4th NFL season (1st year as a starter) took a team that had gone 13 – 3 the previous year and to the NFC championship game and led them to a 6 – 10 finish.

In 2008 he had 4038 yards. Sound impressive, until you look at how he did it.

636 of those yards were against the Lions that didn’t win a single game that year. That leaves 3402 yards in the other 14 games.

If it weren’t for Rodgers getting to play the Lions twice, and the fact that the Packers were playing from behind and playing against prevent defenses in the second half, Rodgers wouldn’t have had a sniff at 4,000 yards.

FWIW – Mathew Stafford in his first 2 full seasons as a starter (years 3 and 4 in the NFL) had an average of over 5,000 yards per season.

Passing yardage just doesn’t really mean a lot if you’re not winning games.

Wow!!! 65 yards in only 20 carries??? 3 yards per carry – we’re all impressed.

Lacy wouldn’t have even been playing the last month if he’d had the injuries that AP has.

Last 5 games when the Packers needed him to perform well, Lacy has tanked it. He’s only averaged 58 yards per game.

Same time period (including the 13 yard game last week) – AP has an average of 102 yards per game.
