Brandon Marshall loses another $15,000 for shoes

Brandon Marshall, Brandon Carr AP

Brandon Marshall keeps making his own fashion choices, which continue to be costly.

PFT has confirmed that the Bears wide receiver was fined $15,000 for wearing orange shoes in Monday’s win over the Cowboys, which is at least his third shoe fine of the last two year.

He was fined $10,500 in October 2012 for orange, and paid another $10,500 for green ones this year when he wore to bring attention to mental health awareness week.

While it’s an expensive choice, no one can say Marshall doesn’t know what’s coming.

He’s really going to miss that extra $36k in 8 years when he’s broke and sueing the NFL for concussion injuries.

  2. ma5terbla5t3r says: Dec 13, 2013 5:17 PM

I’m glad to know that someone is getting paid to monitor his shoe color. Now I can sleep at night.

And when some one goes out of his way to bring attention to an historically stigmatizing issue, I’m all for punishing him. We all know the NFL doesn’t have bigger fish to fry.

People don’t respect the insight and intelligence of Brandon Marshall. They look at the OTF issues he had as a younger man and have their minds made up. I really admire his openness about his own mental health issues and using it to bring awareness to the effect it has on millions in this country.

  4. doctorrustbelt says: Dec 13, 2013 5:19 PM

I try to stay out of fashion conversations… but… those orange shoes made Chicago’s already great uniforms (can’t lie) look even hotter.

Although… nike missed Chicago’s colors a little bit.

  5. seaeagle707 says: Dec 13, 2013 5:27 PM

Play for the Hawks, Brandon. Then you can wear lime green shoes and not have to pay anybody. If you’re real lucky, they might even pay you.

  6. dbones750 says: Dec 13, 2013 5:32 PM

    Cool shoes…but you’re dumb

  7. radioactivechimp says: Dec 13, 2013 5:34 PM

Make an illegal hit that could cause serious injury: $15,000

    Wear orange shoes: $15,00

    Yep, that seems fair

  8. packerbackernj says: Dec 13, 2013 5:35 PM

How about donating the 15k to a mental health clinic, school for mentally ill students, and you know, do what a normal person would do.

  9. radioactivechimp says: Dec 13, 2013 5:35 PM

    *$15,000

Brandon is not the sharpest tack on the strip, but he knows what he’s doing here. It’s Marketing 101 and you can bet Nike will be compensating him well enough to cover that fine (and then some)…

  11. larryboodry says: Dec 13, 2013 5:50 PM

No Fun League strikes again…But kudos to Marshall for not being afraid to help others through his fashion ‘donations.’

Sharper than you, though. And classier than the haters give him credit for, after owning up to his past mistakes and helping others deal with the same issues he has endured.

  13. 2064life says: Dec 13, 2013 6:04 PM

Maybe he should try and sell the shoes on eBay to offset the fines, or maybe even make some money…

  14. wishingtonredslur says: Dec 13, 2013 6:06 PM

Is orange the color of prostrate cancer? Seriously orange is absolutely one of the cancer ribbon colors. Colo-rectal? I’m serious.

  15. dadarchicago27 says: Dec 13, 2013 6:06 PM

The shoes weren’t orange. They were snakeskinned.

Do your research packerbacker..Brandon Marshall matched his previous fines by the NFL for wearing off-color shoes by donating the same amount to charity. Idiots open their mouths before they know the facts….thanks for proving it.

  17. ramitbaby says: Dec 13, 2013 6:29 PM

After taxes, a person making minimum wage brings home about $14,144 / year. The NFL fining someone more than a year’s wage for SOCKS, I imagine, is incredibly offensive.

  18. purplengold says: Dec 13, 2013 6:30 PM

Is the mental health of those who levy the fines what Mr. Marshall is truly bringing attention to?

  19. ramitbaby says: Dec 13, 2013 6:30 PM

    ^____ And shoes too! : )

  20. shatho1 says: Dec 13, 2013 6:39 PM

I don’t think it should matter what color of shoes a player wears regardless if who they play for as long as they are compliant with the NFL rules this fining for this kind of stuff is bs

  21. footballalldayeveryday says: Dec 13, 2013 6:48 PM

Well be going towards charity for borderline personality disorder so the NFL is really not punishing him at all.

Phew.. I was going to keep my kids out of football to avoid crazy colored shoes..

  24. nesuperfan says: Dec 13, 2013 7:14 PM

My biggest issue with this is that he knows that he will get the fine, but at some point, they are going to suspend him for the repeat infractions, and thus, hurt his team. That is the definition of someone, who is not a team player.
The rule is there for a reason, and while you may not agree with it, that is what the bosses dictate, and like most of the posters, if you don’t listen to your bosses, you will be in trouble.

  25. stoolerz says: Dec 13, 2013 7:20 PM

If the seahawks can wear those puke green shoes, I’m okay with just about any other color.

Larry, I never said he wasn’t classy and I agree with you (except the sharper than me quip). I am not a hater, quite the contrary…I was thrilled when the Bears traded for him. Best WR we’ve had since EVER. The point I was trying to make is that he’s learning how to play the marketing game, making money and as you point out helping a cause in which he deeply believes in the process.

    GO BEARS!!!!

  28. saintsallday says: Dec 13, 2013 8:50 PM

Honestly the NFL shouldn’t care what color socks or shoes player wear. I think the actually team should determine whether they want to make it a big deal. Like the NFL has anything else better to do

  29. dietrich43 says: Dec 13, 2013 9:09 PM

If he uses a shoe to Wallace someone, is that another 15,000 or only $7,800?

Wear the right shoes and donate the money to a charity. Tis the season to use your head!!

  32. mancave001 says: Dec 13, 2013 9:16 PM

I noticed that in the game but figured they were OK since they were Bears orange. Guess not…

  33. kenstabler says: Dec 13, 2013 9:27 PM

He will end up broke after his career. When you stop caring about $15,000 so you look good, then $50,000, then $100,000 becomes the norm.

I could really use $15,000 right now. What an idiot.

I won’t feel sorry for him at all when he and his ego is broke.

  34. arrowgargantuan says: Dec 13, 2013 9:34 PM

Jordan dealt with the same thing in his day. Nike paid those fines gladly. I’m positive brandon has the same arrangement.

    Hot Pink Shoes GREAT!!!!!!!!

Orange and Green Shoes? Here’s your fine.

If the NFL could only tie Orange and Green shoes to their female audience….imagine the money stream and back patting.

  37. larryboodry says: Dec 13, 2013 10:06 PM

    @filthysmom:

Sorry for that quip, I wrongly assumed you were a cheesehead like the person whose name you mock, and I disagree about Marshall’s IQ…Titus Young is more what you alluded to, except he’s not even on that strip.

I spent so much time defending Marshall when we first got him, I guess it’s second nature now…So again, my apologies!

Not only that, every fine levied on a player or coach gets put into a fund to take care of retired players from yesteryear who do not have the means to take care of themselves. I’m not talking about broke players who wasted their money on cars, clothes, drugs, alcohol, rims, and escalades. I’m talking players from the 30s, 40s, 50s, & 60s who worked normal jobs in the off season because their salaries were a joke compared to now.

  40. mellowyellow77 says: Dec 14, 2013 12:38 AM

Since the fine money goes to the leagues “charity” fund, do the players get to use this as a tax write off? It only fair right?

  41. bearshaterseverywhere says: Dec 14, 2013 2:03 AM

B Marshall is the best WR in the NFL. Bears have the BEST wideouts in the NFL…..Facts! There will always be haters….Fact.

  42. krebzy1 says: Dec 14, 2013 2:44 AM

1st off, I’m not really sure why the nfl cares so much about stupid chit like shoe colors. 2nd, anyone playing in the nfl, no matter how much money they make, that is willing to flush thousands of dollars down the toilet in an attempt to look fresh is a complete tool. Like they say, a fool and his money are soon parted.

  43. krenshaws says: Dec 14, 2013 6:18 AM

All NFL Fine money goes to charity. Marshall can wear a different color shoe if he approves it by the league, however I find it the case he is probably “willing” to take the fine to get recognition for the charity he is giving to.
