Cody Wallace fined for accidental on-field prostate exam

Wallace

Steelers center Cody Wallace says he accidentally put his hand in a place where a hand normally goes only when accompanied by a few bars of Moon River.  In response, the league office has intentionally put its hand into Wallace’s wallet.

The league office advises PFT that Wallace has been fined $7,875 for unnecessary roughness.  The unnecessary roughness, as explained by the league, arose from striking Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks “in the groin area.”  (Yes, in the groin area.)

It wasn’t the only fine Wallace received for the game.  He was fined another $10,000 for a late hit.  But not to anyone’s groin area.

I’m wondering how T.J wasn’t afforded the same privilege?

  2. theptfpoet says: Dec 13, 2013 4:16 PM

In the Minnesota locker room… this move is as common as a standard hand shake.

  3. bobman2 says: Dec 13, 2013 4:16 PM

The “Come On Man” comments on TV were pretty funny regarding this.

  4. thepftpoet says: Dec 13, 2013 4:17 PM

Cody Wallace is very similar to the average Packer fan then…

  5. zoellner25 says: Dec 13, 2013 4:18 PM

    It was unnecessary indeed

  6. dcstinks says: Dec 13, 2013 4:19 PM

He wanted to get a sack in the worse way.

  7. bedubya says: Dec 13, 2013 4:19 PM

The late hit was gutless and should have been much more than a fine.

  8. oriolesvsravens says: Dec 13, 2013 4:21 PM

A fine I can stand for.

I remember back in the 80’s when I lived in Chicago and they had live unfiltered post game interviews with Steve McMichael (that didnt last too long). Anyway, they asked him about a fumble recovery that happened during the game and without hesitation, he explained – “Yeah, well Trace (Armstrong) grabbed him by the cojones and I ripped the ball out”. I daresay, what happens in a football scrum should stay in the scrum. This stuff happens more than we know.

Ummm…you clearly don’t know how a prostate exam is performed…

It’s legal in MN now. You just need a Justice of the Peace.

  12. howiefeltersnatch says: Dec 13, 2013 4:24 PM

I wouldn’t want to be known as a guy who does that

  13. foosballisthedevil says: Dec 13, 2013 4:25 PM

He’s a center. Having one’s hands in that region of the body is natural.

  14. thegenoatkinsdiet says: Dec 13, 2013 4:26 PM

That was a little too enthusiastic to be accidental…

  15. blacktoothgrinn says: Dec 13, 2013 4:30 PM

This is fine and all, but remember when Aldon Smith kicked RG3 in his bag a couple weeks ago, no fine for Smith. And don’t tell me it was an accident because that doesn’t matter, guys get penalized and fined all the time for things that are accidents.

  16. weepingjebus says: Dec 13, 2013 4:33 PM

Typical Steelers. They actually practice that move, with Big Ben usually volunteering to be the “victim.”

  17. alexb1234 says: Dec 13, 2013 4:34 PM

So in the NFL rulebook it says “if you grab someones _______ it will cost $7,875″

lmaooo where do the NFL offices come up with these numbers?

I can imagine a NFL board meeting where someone raises their hand and says “throw in another $75 for accessive grabbing – all in favor?”

  18. alexb1234 says: Dec 13, 2013 4:35 PM

    excessive*

Gödel has absolutely taken the NFL to a lower level with his fines for every little thing he and his henchman can find. I have lost so much interest in a game I love by the so called leadership of Gödel.

  25. melikefootball says: Dec 13, 2013 5:11 PM

As I read this again you have to wonder. This Steeler player gets fined for a so called unnecessary roughness and yet the golden child of Gödel, Brady chases down an official, berates him along with using the F word on national TV get NO FINE. Totally absurd!

In the wrestling world we call this “checking his oil.”

  27. paulg44 says: Dec 13, 2013 5:15 PM

Awe come on…he was just going for the “ball.”

  28. seaeagle707 says: Dec 13, 2013 5:20 PM

Wallace said he was “fighting for the ball”. So obviously not being able to find it he then tried for something smaller. One week its a grab for the hoo ha, the next its a mining expedition. Where does it end….er, cease?

  29. keepingitrealdumb says: Dec 13, 2013 5:23 PM

    @melikefootball

that is not absurd .. i would much rather get yelled at with a bunch of f-bombs than have my sac squeezed like that .. any man would .. what exactly are you talking about?

  30. negativten says: Dec 13, 2013 5:29 PM

the money should go to Starks, not the league

  31. chawk12thman says: Dec 13, 2013 5:42 PM

  32. vbbills says: Dec 13, 2013 5:43 PM

    These fines confuse me.

    – Byrd gets 15k for a non-incident.
    – Wallace gets 7k for a move that gets you arrested.
    – Ward ruins another mans career with an intentional hit, meant to injure, and gets nothing.

    Makes no sense.

    “a so called unnecessary roughness”…………..so called…….????????

  38. Joemontanaflacco says: Dec 13, 2013 6:33 PM

Cody was just doing to Starks what Roethlisbooger has been doing to the Steelers for the last three seasons.

  39. thegreatgabbert says: Dec 13, 2013 6:38 PM

The fine hurt Cody’s feelings. But it won’t stop them.

I’m a Steelers fan and all for critizing Goodell at every opportunity, but … you’re kidding, right? The league didn’t fine Brady because those officials totally screwed the Pats. Like … they kinda did a Cody Wallace on them.

  42. thetooloftools says: Dec 13, 2013 7:15 PM

This is so unfair, he asked him to “turn your head and cough” before he touched him.

  43. thetooloftools says: Dec 13, 2013 7:20 PM

I just saw the replay… he was going for the ball(s).

  44. ajgreenhof says: Dec 13, 2013 7:25 PM

Does Randy Starks get to “bag tag” Cody Wallace now?

  45. landshark7 says: Dec 13, 2013 7:43 PM

Cody Wallace, a fine example of the Steeler tradition of doing whatever it takes to secure a win. See also, Tomlin, Mike.

  46. anarchopurplism says: Dec 13, 2013 7:50 PM

Don’t they do this to cows in dairyland for fun?

  47. kdr13 says: Dec 13, 2013 8:09 PM

Hmm…..It’s getting tough to keep up with the standards of conduct in the NFL nowadays. On one hand, we all are treated to the drawn out Jonathan Martin and Mike Tomlin stories where suspensions, hefty fines, private investigators, and lawyers are involved.

And here we have a clear case of one player sexually assaulting another. The punishment given out is a minor fine and no time off work. People loved to claim that since Jonathan Martin was in a workplace, whether or not it was the NFL, he should be allowed the same protection as any other employee. Here, Randy Starks (also an employee) has his privates grabbed and the only result is a minimal fine. Try that at any other job and get away with just a fine and no jail time.

Mixed signals being sent by the NFL and the whole media who made a large deal about the Martin ordeal and not this.

  48. getsome99 says: Dec 13, 2013 8:33 PM

Seven grand to fist an opponent? And the money goes to the league and not the victim? That don’t seem right.

  49. mikejsmith32 says: Dec 13, 2013 8:52 PM

    Cody Wallace “tainted” the game!

  50. tictoccpthook says: Dec 13, 2013 10:33 PM

Practicing medicine without a license, no wonder he had his hand in the wrong place. Meanwhile, I’m sure Cody is focusing on his real job this week, beat the Bengals. For conspiracy theorists, Cody did this just to change the conversation away from Big Ben, Tomlin, and Haley so the team could focus attention on getting ready for the game instead of answering trumped up stories (no offense Donald).

  57. jmblosser82 says: Dec 14, 2013 11:59 AM

Tackling by the Johnson is good and legal but grabbing the sack is bad and comes with a fine… Makes sense.

RGIII kick in the groin wasn’t as bad if I remember correctly, looked like he lost his balance while getting blocked
