Harrison Smith says he’ll be activated this weekend

File this one under B for “better late than never,” but the Vikings are getting a key defensive player back this week.

According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Vikings safety Harrison Smith said he’d be activated prior to Sunday’s game.

Smith was placed on injured reserve/designated for return in October with a toe injury.

The 2012 first-rounder was able to avoid surgery to repair the problem, which bought him three more weeks on the field for the 3-9-1 Vikings.

  1. Easily the best Safety in the NFL.

He has the heart of Brian Dawkins.

The instincts & ballhawk skills of Ed Reed.

    The smarts of Troy Polamalu.

The hitting power of Darren Sharper.

  2. Matt Flynn fought so valiantly last week to keep the Packers’ slim playoff hopes alive, only for Aaron to say his Collarbone is more important than the teams’ success. Maybe next year.

Harrison Smith on the other hand, doesn’t see this as some meaningless game. He wants to start turning this ship around this season, so going into next, this squad has some confidence.

  3. Rushing back from an ingrown toenail after only two months? Is that wise? It’s not like they’re trying to sneak into the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Packer fans are calling for A-Rodg to be shut down for the season because they don’t want to hurt their draft position. This is the NFL. If you’re healthy, you play.

So Viking fans want him to play with a shoulder that isn’t structurally sound.

Would you drive over a bridge that isn’t structurally sound?

  5. Considering what the Vikings have in their secondary, how is this going to help?

Cook gets beaten more times than his own girlfriend and the Vikings blew plenty of games with Harrison playing and few more when he was on IR.

I really want the Vikings to go a a mini winning streak right about now. Much like a golfer that hooks and hacks is way to a 109 score, if he goes birdie, par, birdie on the last 3 holes, he’s looking forward to the next time out. Such is the case with the Viking fans, a win here or there will fire them up all off-season where they can claim their 5th consecutive paper championship.

  7. Viking players just seem to keep coming off the injury list.
ahem, where is the key qb qb player?
you know, the one player that makes the most “cheese?”

The Vikings are hoping Harrisons return can move them out of the 4th spot, to 5th in next years draft.

Says the guy that wants Aaron Rodgers to wear a skirt and carry a clipboard so he doesn’t have to play football.

  9. gtodreamer, How is the Yugo? Self promotions above age 12 are often not true.
Saving a franchise QB? Get one then talk.
Skirt? Coming from a team with a coach named Leslie? Fail!

  10. Well it’s great to hear that Smith is healthy enough to get back on the field. I’m all for any player on any team that can contribute, to get out and play. The NFL season is too short for me to hope that my team loses just so it can draft a kid that has potential. That said, I’ve been watching Carr progress through his senior season and feel that he is worth our first pick in the 14 draft.
