Report: Doctors tell JPP he’s better off shutting it down

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has said he wanted to come back this year, telling reporters “I’m never going to shut it down.”

But that seems to be precisely what doctors are telling him to do. That’s the word from Adam Schefter of ESPN, who said it has been recommended that he not play again this year because of his shoulder injury.

The Giants have nothing to play for but pride, and that seems to be what’s driving Pierre-Paul’s motivation to play as well.

But in a year slowed by his recovery from back surgery, then knee problems and now the shoulder, it’s almost like somebody’s trying to send him a sign.

Maybe he needs to see a few broken mirrors and black cats before he gets the message.

I think they’re paid to play if at all possible. He should be out there.

It’s time to get real. This season is over. I agree that players should play hard and play to win even when eliminated, but only if fully healthy. JPP can still play the game when healthy. There is no sense to risking him for the next three weeks if the time off may help him become the player he was before first injuring his back and now his shoulder. That goes for anyone else with an injury that could be exacerbated when there is now nothing left to play for but pride. The team is going to have to go into at least a partial rebuilding mode. Do you do that with a coach who will not be around to see the team complete the rebuilding proicess and take them back to the championship game? Tom’e age will give him just so many years left at whatever his current capability is. And at that I’m notsure he’s fully up to the task any more. I’m his age and I know I’ve lost a step. Might be time to rebuild with a coach who might have 5 or 10 years of tread left on the tires.

When the doctor said JPP should shut it down, he was referring to his mouth.
