The Colts had taken a look at some older receivers, but went with the younger option on hand.
The team announced they had promoted Griff Whalen from the practice squad, waiving cornerback Jalil Brown to make the roster spot.
Whalen has been with them for six games this year, and knows the system offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and quarterback Andrew Luck are running from their days together at Stanford. He has nine catches for 102 yards this season.
The Colts have been looking for help at the position since Reggie Wayne went down, and took a look at veteran wideout Deion Branch this week. The fact they opted against someone with playoff experience should tell you something about his condition, as he’s exactly the kind of presence that receiving corps needs.
