Lions hurting at cornerback heading into Ravens game

The Ravens like to throw the deep ball. The Lions are going to struggle to cover it on Monday night.

That’s the easy conclusion to draw from the news that Lions cornerbacks Chris Houston and Darius Slay both missed practice today.

Slay, who had arthroscopic knee surgery last week, was already expected to miss Monday night’s game against Baltimore. But now it appears that Houston, who has been out of practice all week with a toe injury, will have to miss Monday night as well.

That would leave the Lions with Rashean Mathis and Jonte Green as their starting cornerbacks against the Ravens.

  1. Major Lions homer here.

Lets be honest, the Lions have been hurting at cornerback since Dre Bly. A couple injuries doesn’t matter, the names and faces change but the results remain the same.

Gunther’s cover nobody, never look back for the ball(he literally preaches that) schemes are the problem.

  2. Doesn’t matter. Flacco isn’t going to have time to find a receiver anyways. Lions D-line (our lovable scumbags) is gonna crush them! And then Lions old man Calvin will finish them off.

  3. Also for anybody that was listening to 97.1 at 5pm yesterday they had an interesting conversation about Darqueze Dennard from MSU. They asked if you had to decide today to trade the 1st Round pick no matter where it ends up, would you trade that for Dennard and you had to decide today? I called in and voted yes, since Dennard could be a top DB in the draft and it’s still very possible the Lions could make the playoffs and have a rather late pick even though I wouldn’t otherwise expect them to draft a CB in Round 1 due to too many other needs.

What do you guys think? Do they go after a CB, perhaps Dennard, or do they go for something else? LB is a big need too.

  4. Doesn’t matter…Lions bring their A+ gm when the opponent trash talks them…won’t be suprise at all if Ravens get blown out on MNF

  5. The problem for the Ravens is that Flacco needs time to throw deep and the Detroit rush probably will not give it to him. With such a pathetic running game, they will put their ears back and plow through the Ravens O-line.

Excuse me, I’m sorry but “A+” and “gm” just can’t be used together and next to each other when talking about the Lions. That makes it sound like we have an AWESOME GM!

    Take it back please.

  7. Jump Ball Joe loves this sort of situation as the backups are more likely to draw the PI calls that he counts on than the starters.

  8. Wow! With Houston not in the game, it’ll be just like when he is in the game… May as well blitz like crazy, because if Flacco has more than 3 seconds to find open receivers, he will. Gunther needs to walk away, the NFL passed him by years ago. He thinks he’s still playing in a running league.
