Adrian Peterson out today

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wanted to play today against the Eagles, despite being carted off the field last week. But it’s not going to happen.

Sean Jensen reported on Saturday night that Vikings players had been informed that they’d be without Peterson today. Backup Toby Gerhart, who like Peterson was listed as questionable, is expected to miss today’s game.

That means the Vikings are down to Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard as their running backs.

Today’s meeting was slated to match up the two leading rushers in the NFL, LeSean McCoy and Peterson. Instead, McCoy will pad his rushing lead against the Vikings, while Peterson watches from the sideline.

What a huge setback for AP and the Vikings! Not only will this cut into Peterson’s quest for 2500 yards, but it might do serious damage to Minnesota’s hopes for a division title.

APs made of glass. 28-0 Eagles.

  12. thedano says: Dec 15, 2013 8:47 AM

Will this affect AP running for 2500 yards this year??

  13. bobleblah says: Dec 15, 2013 8:49 AM

Too bad. One day we will wish we had the Peterson / McCoy duel to play back.

  14. doctorart2013 says: Dec 15, 2013 8:51 AM

Cool, I knew he wasn’t playing anyway. Shady McCoy will solidify his 1st rushing title today.

Trap game for Philly. A little win streak an abismal team bears and cowboys on the horizon. You heard it here first vikes are gonna stun philthy today

  16. officialgame says: Dec 15, 2013 9:04 AM

At this point the Vikes are playing for jobs and draft position to finally get a quality QB. I think Fraiser and his staff are history as well.

Is Chip Kellys 32nd ranked defense hungry too?

  18. bennyb82 says: Dec 15, 2013 9:23 AM

This is the type of game where Minnesota either gets completely blown out or they completely step up and fight and surprise everyone. I doubt they win but I could see Cordarelle Patterson going off…

  19. glennsyank13 says: Dec 15, 2013 9:28 AM

If only the Vikings had a high priced receiver they could count on today…

  20. whatjusthapped says: Dec 15, 2013 9:32 AM

Peterson has likely played his last game as a Viking. Spielman, clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed, has too many holes to fill and not enough draft choices so his ready justification for trading Peterson this off-season is the long term needs of the team.

Even armed with extra draft picks, Spielman will swing and miss at the all important QB pick and it will be another 3 or 4 years of mediocrity and then yet another Qb taken in the first round.

the eagles have to be the luckiest team in the NFL.

they play the packers–no rodgers, they play the cards-no ellington, they play the Vikings no peterson, they play stafford and calvin johnson they get a blizzard. they play mike glennon in like his second start.

    wow

This gimmick of an eiggles squad never faces the other teams number one back

  23. officialgame says: Dec 15, 2013 10:12 AM

Chip Kelly’s defense is rank 30th in yards because they lead the league in snaps and are on the field a lot because the Eagle score fast. They also haven’t given up a 100 yard rusher and have held opponents to under 21ppg for nine games in a row. They are near the top in take a ways and near the bottom in turnovers. Bill Davis has a young, improving defense that get better over time.

  24. steves11 says: Dec 15, 2013 10:14 AM

On paper, this game should be a blowout win for the Eagles, but as we all know, the game isn’t played on paper. The Eagles need to jump on the Vikings early and build a big lead by halftime. If they let the Vikes hang around, an upset could happen. If the Eagles lose this game, they don’t belong in the playoffs.

  25. purplehaze28 says: Dec 15, 2013 10:33 AM

Toby is more than capable. He would be a starter on any team that did not have AP.

  26. dcviking says: Dec 15, 2013 10:51 AM

Good now we can take the “all our guys are hurts” defense that the Packers fans use so frequently…

Seriously, even with AP, Philly is the better, hotter team right now — Vikings will lose either way. Phillys wins the east, then loses in the 2nd round of the playoffs…

  27. 1rockyracoon says: Dec 15, 2013 10:59 AM

Vikings should trade AP this offseason. Running backs are not built to last long.

joe banyard might just go off.

Boring game, I’d hate to have tickets to it.

  30. s0merand0mguy says: Dec 15, 2013 11:54 AM

I’d rather have McCoy then Peterson ANYDAY. Now that McCoy has a coach that will actually utilize him and the run game in the next few seasons Shady will make Peterson look like the 2nd best RB in the league. Bank on it.
