Chiefs’ offense can’t be stopped in blowout of Raiders

jamaal AP

The Chiefs have been winning all season with defense. But as they head for the playoffs, their offense is making the rest of the NFL take notice.

Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles had a historic day today, catching eight passes for 195 yards and four touchdowns and also adding a touchdown running, becoming the first player in NFL history with four receiving touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the same game. And quarterback Alex Smith had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 on 17-for-20 passing, for 287 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. The Chiefs blew out the Raiders, 56-31.

The Chiefs’ defense did allow plenty of yards and points, but Kansas City doesn’t have much to worry about defensively after a day on which the Chiefs forced six turnovers. This team is rolling on both sides of the ball.

Kansas City is still a long shot to catch Denver in the AFC West, and so the Chiefs will probably have to win three straight January road games if they want to get to the Super Bowl. But the Chiefs look like a team that can make a lot of noise in January.

There were still 4 or 5 Raiders fans in the stands in the 3rd quarter, but I think they were just waiting for the bus.

  2. slick50ks says: Dec 15, 2013 7:28 PM

I’ve seen em all this year and there’s absolutely no doubt that the faiders are by far the worst team in the league.

How they ever beat ANYONE this season is a miracle. Worst franchise in football, with no end in sight.

And to think the 49′ers chose Kaepernick over him.

The so-called “soft” running back for the Kansas City “house of cards” had a helluva game…eh joe?

Come on Oakland. Don’t start phoning it in.

  6. humb0lt says: Dec 15, 2013 7:31 PM

The Raiders only allowed the Chiefs 21 points in the 2nd half after giving up 35 points in the first half. That’s progress.

  7. fnf417 says: Dec 15, 2013 7:35 PM

This team needs some work on defense but once they get healthy again I think they can make some noise we will see what happens in the next couple of weeks when they play two teams that are clearly better than the raiders

The Oakland Raiders went from the 8th best passing team (with average receivers) in 2012 to the 27th ranked passing team in the NFL with the loss of Carson Palmer (and TE Brandon Myers).

  12. jk86nfl says: Dec 15, 2013 7:39 PM

Chiefs get an undeserved rap as a paper tiger. From where I’m sitting I see a trojan horse built for January.

  13. doctorrustbelt says: Dec 15, 2013 7:40 PM

… but… look at Myers output WITHOUT Carson Palmer (20 less yards per game w/ Manning).

I enjoyed watching the Chief’s toy with the Raiders, before smacking them down…Of course the media talking heads will once again neglect to talk about KC this week, while ranting about Peyton and even the 7-7 Chargers…LOL

Flying under the radar aint no bad place to be!

    Go Chiefs!

  18. taintedsaints2009 says: Dec 15, 2013 7:43 PM

Too bad they’ll have to try to beat denver in denver. Not happening. Not with that defense.

  19. mrplow3 says: Dec 15, 2013 7:44 PM

All that has to happen for kc to catch Denver is for them to go 2-0 while the finks go 1-1. How exactly is that a long shot, especially in this nfl?

  20. atleastimnotaraidersfan says: Dec 15, 2013 7:44 PM

I swear the raiders are the most pathetic franchise in all of sports. Put a hat on 25 for crying out loud you losers!!!

  21. nosmak40 says: Dec 15, 2013 7:51 PM

It must be December, cause Romo throwin picks and the Raiders are giving up mass amounts of points.

I love December. Its my favorite.

RAIDERS WANT TO GO 4-12 AND GET HIGHER PICKS IN ALL 7 ROUNDS IN THE DRAFT . IT LOOKS LIKE DENNIS ALLEN IS OUT OF A JOB IF THE CAN GET GRUDEN TO BE THE HC NEXT YEAR . IT WILL TAKE 2 MORE DRAFTS AND SMART FREE AGENT SIGNINGS TO TURN THINGS AROUND IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

  39. nflfolly says: Dec 15, 2013 9:15 PM

Reggie McKenzie will hopefully be fired after today’s debacle. He jettisoned Carson Palmer for Matt Flynn LOL.
Mark Davis should have sold the team . The hiring of R McKenzie as the GM was as bad as the Lions hiring Millen.

  40. nativeraider says: Dec 15, 2013 9:46 PM

Hats off to the Chiefs today. Raiders made a push but choked when they fumbled, then Chiefs ran away with it. Good game Chiefs, but as for their fans acting like they won the Super Bowl or something against the Raiders is ridiculous. Don’t start acting like Bronco fans.

  41. winstonjed44 says: Dec 15, 2013 9:53 PM

The Chiefs can’t be too happy about this game. Sure Jamaal Charles put up numbers you should only have on madden, but c’mon its the Raiders D, they made Nick Foles look like Joe Montana. But that defense has just been pathetic lately, they gave up 31 to the Raiders led by Matt McGloin and they’ve given up 27 or more four of the last five games.

Objectively, you’re not far off. The other day, I posted my opinion of their total failings to solidify the quarterback position. Today, was the clearest example of such:

They traded too much to get Palmer (not McKenzie’s fault) but then they got rid of him, instead of at least capitalizing on his value as a real QB. He has since gone on to a near-career year in Arizona (winning a thriller just today).

They picked up Matt Flynn, and just as quickly let him go. Yet, today, Flynn led the Packers to an improbably victory, under the greatest of pressure. Clutch! So, either the Raiders should have never signed him, or they shouldn’t have let him go.

That leads us to the disaster that is their current status at that position. They flip-flopping between two guys. One of which, can’t win for them. The other, can’t stay healthy at that position.

The ONLY thing a Raiders’ fan can hope for (and it’s probably more likely than not) is that Mark Davis will be forced to sell his slim majority ownership in the organization. At that point, the controlling entity would be able to come in and start from scratch. Otherwise, it’s the going to be more of the same, for years to come. Frightening.

No Joe, they will not end up in the same place.

The Faiders are finishing up their 12th season in a row with out a winning season.

And the Chiefs are going to the play-offs.

But there was some good news for Oakland this year. Seeing as LA now has an arena football team, they will have no desire to downgrade to the fadiers. So Oakland will get to keep them. But judging by the number of people at the game today, that will only affect like 5 fans.

As for playing Denver in Denver, that is probably right………BUT………with New England losing today, Denver slips up one time and the road to the AFC Championship goes through KC.

    —————-
The math might be too complicated for you, but the team with the least wins is the worst team in the league. That’s why they keep track. Last year it was the Chiefs. So far this year it’s the Texans. Try to keep up. Still, I thought that game might end up 70-10 the way it went in the first half. Andy Claus was eating out of Tarver’s fridge all afternoon. Blitzing on 3rd and 19 and ignoring the screen pass even after getting beat on it repeatedly seemed downright stupid. Oakland doesn’t have much on defense, but Tarver must have gotten poked in both eyes by a Chief defender during warmups, because he couldn’t see what was going on out there.

We’ve got some amazing fans up here who spend a boat load of money getting to games to support their team, so can the anti Canadian comments…”eh”?

You Chief fans are hilarious. You beat a team who has a undrafted rookie QB starting with a beat up Oline with a bunch of young players. This wasn’t a Super Bowl game (which we have 3) nor a playoff game. Every team you play that has a winning record you lose (which has only been 1 team) too. One and done Chiefs. You’ll lose on the road on the road in the first round.

That’s entirely true. The Chargers have seemed able to beat the best teams they played this year, they have also lost to the absolute worst teams in the league: Oakland, Washington, Houston.

Had San Diego won just a single game of those three, they would be in control of the sixth seed. Instead, they’re on the outside, looking in.

have to love all the haters above ….as a raider fan that game started ugly, then out of no where it was 35-31, then it got even uglier.

on the bright side, for all of my fellow raider fans , and Raiders coaching staff that drank kool aid, and thought that my Irish cuz Matt McGloin was going to Canton…at least this game was a reality check for them. If not for more drops by the chiefs secondary, easily could have been 8 interceptions, and 70 points…..but hey blame it on the d, when you team give the ball aways time and time again.

  54. Dogsweat says: Dec 16, 2013 4:13 PM

Facts about Raisin aka EBT Nation.

Friend went to game, it was not a sellout, they didn’t even cover 40,000. The second row was empty.

Why they try to hide the attendance of this team is pathetic.

There was a sea of red at the game, well done Chief Fans.

Tickets for this game were as low as a dollar and they still couldn’t sell it out.

Unfortunately, the NFL requires the Chiefs to play this perennial loser called the faiders twice a year. So that is two less opportunities a year we get to play a winning team.

As far as the number 3. Would that be the same as the Chiefs have now made the playoff 3 times since the faiders last went?

Or that every team in the AFC West has made the playoffs at least 3 times since the faiders last made it.

Wow, that is depressing. Every team in your division has gone to the playoffs at least 3 times since the last time faiders were relevant. The faiders are truly the whipping boys of the AFC West.
