Niners didn’t give Vernon Davis a concussion exam

Davis AP

After 49ers tight end Vernon Davis slammed into the wall to cap a second-quarter touchdown reception at Raymond James Stadium, he looked woozy and wobbly and possibly concussed.

But no concussion test was administered to Davis.

“He showed no ill effects when he came to the sideline and there was no call from the independent trainer in the booth upstairs,” team spokesman Bob Lange told PFT via email after Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers.

It’s likely that Davis doesn’t have a concussion.  But with Davis running into a wall, his head snapping, and Davis clearly taking some time to collect his wits after landing on the ground, it seems odd that the 49ers didn’t at least take a look at him — especially since he was coming to the sidelines for the extra point, kickoff, and ensuing Buccaneers possession.

Don’t pin this on the 49ers. With all the crap about preventing collusion and having independent trainers and doctors for head injuries, the NFLs system would have failed before Davis fails an exam for that collision.

Vernon Davis will be suing the 49ers in about 10 years.

that is surprising given his concussion history…

Vernon must’ve missed the Gus Frerotte video-memo. When skulls challenge stadium walls – skulls lose.

He couldnt break his stride, momentum just carried him into the wall.. Glad he is fine..

Niners don’t care about their players. Only winning. That colin is a really efficient game manager though. Not as good as Alex was, but is close.

Per Davis: “(It) just knocked the wind out of me a little bit.” No test needed.

REMINDER: Jim Harbaugh made Alex Smith lose his job to Colin Kaepernick because Smith was honest and did the right thing by reporting his concussion.

    Above reproach

He is starting to get injured weekly it seems, I seriously like Vernon except when he whines.

But this is very concerning your see this happen to veterans than they have a huge drop off once these little injuries mount up..

Good luck vern, but seriously we might be seeing you for the last time at your best.. Slowly he will decline the proof is on the injury report..

Winning is more important than player safety in that organization. It is the Harbaugh way.

haha hell yea baby! win for life

The same with their young rookie safety Reid. The week after his second concussion he played versus the Saints and while the Saints rested their rookie safety after he suffered his first.

The 49ers will put their players at risk to win. Nearly every player will say he is good to go when asked, sometimes teams have to take that decision out of their hands.

From top to bottom, the forty-whiners are a scum bag organization. Led by QB Colin Kaepernick that only shakes hands with the opposing team if the whiners win. Classless franchise.

Any Vernon didn’t get a concussion after that!?

Man florio this game was waaaaaay more grueling than the Seattle game, I don’t know what’s a bigger joke your articles, or your picks.

I almost forget the niners had a game today. I was still enjoying the win over the Seadderall Seahawks*. Glad Vernon was OK.

  22. golforepar says: Dec 15, 2013 10:43 PM

Harbaugh has no interest in following rules!

  23. pgilbert2013 says: Dec 15, 2013 11:45 PM

legionofboom88 are you kidding me? Take a look in the mirror not so bright one. Seattle has played well but has had a few setbacks with performance enhancing drugs.

Good lord. Keep is classy LOB88

You failed to mention that Davis set a record as the NFL’s only tight end to record two 12 + TD seasons.
