Niners plan to extend Jim Harbaugh after the season

Amid chatter (which may or may not be gobble, gobble, gobble, turkey from jive-turkey gobblers) that the University of Texas covets 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, a league source tells PFT that the 49ers don’t believe that Harbaugh has any interest in leaving.

The 49ers, we’re told, have a strong interest in keeping Harbaugh over the long haul.  The 49ers plan to extend Harbaugh’s contract after the current season.

Harbaugh currently is signed through 2015.

Of course, it takes two to make a contract thing go right.  Mike Silver of NFL Network reported earlier today that the 49ers and Harbaugh tried to strike a deal on an extension after the 2012 season, but that talks broke off because Harbaugh didn’t like the numbers.

We’ve also had heard that Jim Harbaugh had some strong opinions about his brother’s new contract, lobbying that John hold out for more than roughly $7 million per year on his deal in Baltimore.

On one hand, it’s admirable that Jim Harbaugh is all in with the 49ers.  On the other hand, it could be useful to flirt with other possibilities in order to maximize what he’ll make from the Niners.

You sure do hear lots of things now don’t you?

Dang..was hoping we wouldn’t have to keep watching his boo hoo, whiny, spitting temper tantrums on the sidelines any more. If I acted that way, my dad would have extended the right hand of fellowship to my behind..and justifiably so.

    Super Bowls:

    John-1
    Jim-0

Jim should make what the other coaches who haven’t won anything make.

Texas will be offering $10 mil per…

  5. coachbeck says: Dec 15, 2013 6:42 PM

I’m pretty sure Texas will offer enough money if the niners don’t wanna pay what he thinks he is worth.

Obviously your dad aimed for and connected above the shoulders in your case.

either way harbaugh will find something to whine about (you’ll see it in hie face)

Pete Carroll and Jeff Fisher both make substantially more within his own division. Chip Kelly makes more, Shanahan makes more. None have won either except for Shanahan almost 20 years ago and that was simply riding the coattails of Elway and Davis. Carroll barely has a winning record as a coach. I’m not sure Fisher even has that now… But at least him and Harbaugh can say they have been to a Superbowl. Like him or not Jim immediately turned around a perrenial 6 win team, and he did so with a QB nobody even wanted. His winning history is pretty undeniable. Just ask Pete.

Carroll barely has a winning record? He’s like at least a dozen games over .500 with Seattle. Im a 9ers fan but admit Harbaugh inherited most of the studs here. Willis, Staley, Gore, VD, Crabs, Iupati, Boone, Bowman, Lee, etc. It was clear Singletary was holding us back, any average coach could have been 10-6+ with this team.

  12. goldrush36 says: Dec 15, 2013 8:03 PM

Carroll’s career didn’t start in Seattle.. I really hateto break reality to ya.

They are offering this extension and more money because HE WAS INTERESTED simple as that.. This happens to any highly coveted coach.. See UCLA, Bama, all other coaches getting random extensions when competition comes knocking…

Unless the senior Yorks are back in charge, they’ll pay the man. It’s how they got back on track after years of trying to scrape by with the uninspiring hires like Singletary and Erickson when they paid Harbaugh top dollar 3 years ago. They now have a new stadium, which should bring alot of new revenue. If he wins the Super Bowl soon (and I’m officially putting the 49ers as my favorite to win it this year from what I’m seeing down the stretch), he could very well be in the $9 to $10 million range by the time they do this deal.

    Keep the crybaby
Don’t want his whining in our division
Ruining football with his crying all the time.
    over-rated QB and coach!
Perfect fit in SF, where all the girly guys live!!

Wow, apparently jim harbaugh is the first coach in football HISTORY to moan and bitch about bad calls! Heaven forbid

    McCarthy
    Coughlin
    Carroll
    Arians
    Gruden
    Cowher
And I can go on ever complained and yelled and even mentioned in their press conference about a bad call! Hypocrites!!! Just jealous! Don’t worry pack boy! When ur coaches realize that u can’t only have Rodgers and win more they will actually build a decent team!

Glad to see your resorting to calling San Fran the city of girly men! Go have some
Cheese while you watch everyone else in the playoffs

cant blame niner fans.so many years mirred in mediocrity and awfulness that they thibk their players are “studs” now especially the guy posting above that refers to crabtree, staley, frank gore, CK, and ive never heard of the rest of the guys named as a team of “studs” inherited by harbaugh. Lol

  19. daubs17 says: Dec 15, 2013 10:01 PM

crabtree has had exactly one 1,000+ yard season…and it was 1100 yds. Not exactly someone I would call a stud

  20. goldrush36 says: Dec 15, 2013 10:15 PM

That clown is NOT a 49ers fan.. He is a Seahawks fan trying to give his team the attention they have so desperately seeked throughout their entire history. It bothers them that nobody cared about them in the AFCW and it bugs them that their prized rivalry now is all of 1 year old. Sorry ladies but the RAMS are the 49ers main divisional rival, not the squaks

The Packers under Mike McCarthy, and with Aaron Rodgers are 0-3 against Harbaugh’s 49ers.
    Already forgotten that?

Just go Big Balla style…9 mill a season. New stadium, team is rolling, 30 plus wins in his first 3 seasons…pay the man!

Seems to me the Pack won the SB just 3 years ago! Your questioning talent??
When is the last time the 40 whiners won it??
Talk to about building a team when Harbawl took a much more talented team to the big dance and LOST!! He didn’t even pick the talent, it was there for him!
Let him keep crying every week, everyone see’s right through it!
Next, learn to flop. (no-one will catch on!!)

If Jim had half his older brothers class he be worth 7 million a year. But like when he played in the nfl, Jim shows no class. They chalk it up to his competitiveness, bit I see Jim as a no class individual

  25. jcf78 says: Dec 16, 2013 2:25 PM

    Backdapack whatever ur name is,

We r so bad that we beat you guys 3 times!!! 3, not once, or twice!

That’s rights it’s been almost 20 years, so yea it’s been a while.

taintedsaints2009 ..and that is because people like us read his “stuff”. Don’t think he is going to get the $8 million he “wants”. And as for his brother, I don’t he is worth $7Million either. Only coach who is “worth” (and I use that word loosely) his BB, and that is because he has won 3 SB’s.
