Jerome Simpson accuses official of inappropriate comments

jeromesimpson AP

Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson has accused an official of making inappropriate comments to players during Sunday’s game.

“There were some questionable things, what the ref also said to a couple of our players,” Simpson said, via the Pioneer Press. “I won’t go into that. It was kind of some stuff, controversial things that he said to a couple of our players. . . . It wasn’t good what he said. But I’ll leave it at that. I’ll let him live.”

Simpson wouldn’t divulge details of what the official said, although he did say it was nothing racist. Simpson also said he doesn’t plan to complain to the league office about it.

“It was definitely nothing that you say, that they should say to our players, what he said,” Simpson said. “I didn’t like it. I wanted to go ask him about it after the game but he took off into the locker room.”

This is the second time this season that an NFL player accused an official of verbal abuse. Washington offensive lineman Trent Williams previously accused umpire Roy Ellison of inappropriate language, an accusation that resulted in the NFL suspending Ellison for one game.

Simpson should have the marbles to say what the official said, or why even bring it up ?

Jerome Simpson could be a #1 receiver on at least 16 other football teams and he’s the Vikings #3.

Our depth on offense is off the charts. We have star power all over the field and it’s finally starting to show with a competent quarterback.

Once we draft our franchise quarterback in the next draft and fix a few pieces in free agency on our secondary (which has been hurt by injuries) the dynasty will official begin,

Nothing worse than when a drug trafficker who pleaded down to a possession charge/below average to average NFL wide receiver complains.

  9. thegreatgabbert says: Dec 16, 2013 1:23 PM

The official apparently called Simpson and his teammates “Vikings”. I’d be offended at being called something this derogatory too.

Alleged inappropriate comments from officials are the new thing to whine about when you want attention now. Is Simpson going to cry like Dez Bryant supposedly did? Me sad – boo hoo… Grow a pair if you’re going to play a mans game you whiny sniveling little wimp!

The Vikings get their biggest win of the season… and Vikings want to talk about something else…

Adrian Peterson is a system RB.

The worst part is the system works best when he isn’t there… yesterday is one more reason they should trade Peterson…

I am just glad the Vikings were stubborn enough to wait til now to start Cassell I actually thought that was their plan from the get go.

A viking player whines but is not man enough to do anything about it.

Typical BS whining about nothing factual.

There was either something or there wasn’t. Since neither the league office or the public will ever know the words … then nothing happened.

While that may be true, the Eagles DBs were jabbering all day long and getting into the faces of the Vikings WRs. Simpson didn’t get in the guys face, he was laughing and gave him a pat on the ass. The response was over the top.

  26. bucfandango says: Dec 16, 2013 1:40 PM

All refs suck!!! They change outcomes of games on a wim. They don’t call games consistently. They pick on certain teams and players. And if you question their outrageous calls, they will break it off in you for the remainder of the game. They should all be fired and replaced. Penalties should be reviewable. Officials are ruining the game right along with Goodell.

And if you like your Official, you can keep him.

  27. losangelesbillsofbuffalo says: Dec 16, 2013 1:42 PM

While it is inappropriate for an official to ask a player to share his hook-up, what is a fella to do? He’s on the road, and everyone knows Jerome knows where to get the stuff. Don’t go public with it Jerome, that ain’t the way it works on the real.

He did enough to help beat a hot team. Instead of worrying about giving the ball to 1 player so much, and having the best option at quarter back showed, what these team could be capable doing.

The best year the Vikings had with Peterson. He had under 1400 yards.

Asiata may have done enough but he is sure no Adrian Peterson. And how does this show Peterson is a “system running back”? By your reasoning, shouldn’t the Vikings just be able to plug in whoever at running back then and rush for 200 yards and cause the opposing team’s defense to scheme around their run game? And how many “systems” has AP played in now? At least two, and down fairly well.

Do you think maybe the reason the Vikings had their best season when AP had 1383 yards might have had something to do with that Favre guy playing out of his mind at Quarterback? Just maybe? Oh, and AP had 436 yards receiving that season, which is a career high, and puts his yards from scrimmage above other seasons in which he may have had more rushing yards.

If you honestly believe Matt Asiata is a comparable replacement for AP, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Not sure what you’re getting at. They handed the ball to Asiata 30 times and he also had 3 receptions. I don’t think that they were “worrying about giving the ball to 1 player so much” but Asiata had more carries yesterday than AP has had in a game this season except for 2 games.

    _____
The random-ness of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties is one of the many issues most of us fans have wth the officials. See also Jets at Panthers. When Captain Munnerlyn gets his pick-6 to seal the Panthers win, he flops down on his back in the end zone and is piled on by his teammates. Ref Terry “New York” McCauley flags Munnerlyn for taunting. More likely an attempt to get one of RGI’s favorite teams some field position. Too bad they didn’t have enough time to get back in the game.

I thought all the commenters that were hollering “bring back the replacement refs” were off their rockers at first. Now I think they’re right.

  63. shaggytoodle says: Dec 16, 2013 5:05 PM

So you guys would also agree that Rodgers isn’t a system QB? A lot of Vikings trolls would swear up and down by that… I just wanted to give you guys a taste of that medicine.

Yes Favre had a lot to do with it that season, but if the Vikings didn’t push for that they wouldn’t be in the jam they are in now.

I said years ago bringing in Favre would set that team back 5 years. They are still paying for it, and if the QB they sign or draft next year doesn’t pan out they will get set back 2 or 3 more seasons.

“It was kind of some stuff, controversial things that he said to a couple of our players. . . . It wasn’t good what he said. I doubt anything was said. This is getting pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. besides, wtf is he even talking about, if you dont understand or speak the english language any better than that, how are you sure what anyone said. likely, the referee was not speaking some hacked up form of english, so of course Simpson thought he was “saying some kind of stuff…that, wasn’t good” #whatafreakincrybaby

  66. dcviking says: Dec 16, 2013 6:05 PM

    @shaggytoodle -

Actually, I agree with what you said about the Vikings being more difficult to defend without AP. Defenses must play more honest (the whole field), and our offense must look for contributions from more players.

I don’t agree about the Favre comment — Favre wasn’t the problem. The problem was the lack of development in TJack or any other quarterback prior to, or in conjunction with Favre.

And no, Rodgers is a great talent, no matter what the system — doesn’t mean I won’t make fun of or take shots at him whenever possible.

  68. shaggytoodle says: Dec 16, 2013 7:19 PM

    @dcviking

I don’t mind a razz here or there but that was for all the dedicated.

If I recall correctly TJack helped take them to the playoffs. I think he earned the right to try to go next season, they choose to axe him and go with Favre.

In doing so I think that opened up a can of worms with guys like Berrian and Harvin. Which also to eventually reaching for Ponder, because they were so desperate to fill that QB need.

You also know when teams whiff on their next QB after a great one leaves town. Just ask Buffalo, Miami, Dallas even Denver was looking until they got Manning. I think we can also agree that with the track record that Minny.

I just don’t recall seeing any QB getting better after going to Minnesota.
