The 49ers have dealt with a lot of injuries in their wide receiving corps over the course of the season, leading them to look in different directions for help in the passing game.
One of those directions has been fullback Bruce Miller, who has caught 25 passes for 243 yards this season. Miller suffered an injury to his shoulder in Sunday’s victory over the Buccaneers and it may mean the 49ers will have to stop looking to a player who has also been a big help in the run game. Coach Jim Harbaugh wouldn’t say Monday whether the injury would end Miller’s season, but said that it “doesn’t look good.”
“Very significant [loss],” Harbaugh said, via Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group. “He does so many things in the protection, in the run game, receiving out of the back field. … It’s a loss.”
Harbaugh said that the 49ers intend to bring fullback Owen Marecic in for a physical and workout. Marecic played for Harbaugh at Stanford and spent a brief spell on the 49ers roster earlier this season.
