49ers fans to buy billboard in Seattle

49ers-billboard

The battle has been joined.

After Seahawks fans bought a brick at the 49ers’ new stadium and arranged earlier this month for a 12th Man banner to be flown over Candlestick Park, fans of San Francisco’s NFL team have raised money to purchase a billboard in Seattle.

Via the San Jose Mercury News, Niners fans have accumulated more than $8,000 to buy a billboard that taunts Seattle residents with images of the five Super Bowl trophies the 49ers have secured.

All money exceeding the project’s estimated cost of $7,000 will be donated to Seattle Children’s Hospital.

While the back and forth adds intrigue to the rivalry, this probably isn’t the year to give extra incentive to the 12th Man and the team it supports. The Seahawks currently look unbeatable, by the 49ers or anyone. A billboard reminding the Seahawks that they have no Super Bowl championships will give them extra motivation to secure their first.
