Bengals replace injured punter with Shawn Powell

The Bengals found a replacement for their punter, who we all hope can stay intact the rest of the year.

The team announced they signed former Bills punter Shawn Powell today, after putting Kevin Huber on injured reserve with a fractured jaw and a cracked vertebrae.

Powell emerged from a tryout today. He opened the season with the Bills, but was cut in October after giving up 179 yards worth of returns and a touchdown against the Browns.

Powell will also be expected to hold for kicks, since they don’t want to expose quarterback Andy Dalton to that duty. He had to fill in as the holder Sunday night after Huber was injured in the first half.

Bengals front office needs to replace the entire starting offense and defense if they want to compete with the Ravens. Also getting a coach with a winng record better than .500 might help. Bengals fans enjoy that your team has been irrelevant for 20 plus years.

yeah, I was kind of surprised Dalton didn’t get crushed as he kneeled on the ground – the “Steeler Way” seems to always involve injuring players unable to defend themselves. #classlessposorg

He shouldn’t have any problem staying in tact as long as no one decides to put the crown of their helmet in his jaw.

And the Steeler that placed the illegal contact foul block on him should be out for the year as well. Not a Bengals fan. Just dont understand why these goons continue to spear when they tackle or block.

Keep your head on a swivel Powell.

A few no penalty spears to Big Ben’s jaw and knee and I think we can call the whole issue resolved and move on.

Hopefully Powell realizes that his job may result in some contact if tries to make a tackle.

Hope Huber will recover and continue his career, but not too sure what he expected as he closed in on the ball carrier Sunday night.

Let’s see, the Steelers are out of the playoffs already. We beat you in our house by 10 points. You beat us in your house by 10 points. We beat you without trying to kill your punter. You had two touchdowns gift wrapped by the officials. The first TD should have been a safety. The second one should have been called back due to at least two penalties. The Steelers have zero chance to go to the playoffs and their fans our gleeful because they beat us Sunday night. Our roles have reversed. We are the contender. You consider beating us your Super Bowl. Congratulations on winning your Super Bowl. We’re going after a real one.

From a fellow Bengals fan, I don’t think I could have said it better myself. Thank you.

That’s pretty funny. He wasn’t the problem in that game, but it made me laugh.

    @bigben
bengalbonnie put a beat down on you that makes that hit on Huber look tame! #schooled

Oh for all the Ravens trolls – no way you’re beating the Pats. And that’s coming from a Bengals fan who would rather see you guys win so we have that shot at #2 seed – but you really think Tom Brady is gonna lose a second straight game, much less to the Ravens, who have been that little thorn in his side for years now? Your better hope is rooting for the Vikings to beat the Bengals (more likely than you guys beating the Pats imo).

Maybe this punter can throw a 10 yard out, unlike the Red Palooka.

  18. israeli1981 says: Dec 17, 2013 6:25 PM

@bigben Maybe you should take the time to think out a better response to BonnieBengals’ massive and public ownage of you instead of gems like:

    – “you look like a whiny lil girl. which obviously you are.”

    – “your punter is soft like your team and your fanbase,”

    – “I hope you miss the playoffs”

Just put a little more effort in. Oh wait, this is the fanbase that hardly showed up for a prime time game against a division rival. Oh, right…

I’m really confused israel, in reading the first part of your post I assumed you were a Bengals fan. But your last line you’re cutting on the bengals for not showing up Sunday night. Huh?

and by “emerged from a tryout today,” they mean “was willing to accept the least amount of money.” Why sign a bum? This guy is garbage!
