Broncos cut J.D. Walton

J.D. Walton AP

J.D. Walton, the Broncos center whose promising career was derailed by a severe ankle injury, has been released.

The 26-year-old Walton was the Broncos’ third-round draft pick in 2010 and played all but one snap in the first 38 games of his career. But in Week Four of 2012 he suffered a broken ankle, and he still hasn’t been able to play since.

Walton spent the final 12 games of last season on injured reserve and still wasn’t ready at the start of this season, so he was placed on the physically unable to perform list. Walton was moved to the 53-man roster last month but never played.

Cutting Walton opens up a roster spot that the Broncos have used to sign defensive end Jeremy Mincey.

Tough break for Walton. Too bad he couldn’t heal because he sure looked to have a long and promising career in the NFL before that injury.

Don’t know him, but wow! a year later and poor guy is still out. Hope he makes it back into the league, tough break.

Tough break but Manny has been better.

Some team will take a flyer on him hoping he heals up this offseason. Not a bad risk/reward thing to do.

And this is why as an athlete you get as much money as you can, bleed the team dry. Fans will say things like you’re selfish but loyalty gets you nowhere. One bad break and you’re cut, contract voided.

He’ll be back. Just give it time.

This guy was as solid as they came. I watched every game he played in and for a rookie to go right in there and do what he did, just incredible.

Ity’s crazy because Kuper has what seemed to be a far more grusome injury and he is still there. He played in one game this year and is right back to being inactive since for the same ankle.

Not saying I want Kuper gone, but just comparing the two, very similar situations.
