Cowboys could be missing several defensive players

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently lamented certain “inadequacy” of the team’s personnel, as that personnel was compiled by General Manager Jerry Jones.  There could be even more inadequacy on Sunday at Washington.

Five key defensive players missed practice on Wednesday due to injury: cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring), linebacker Sean Lee (neck), defensive end George Selvie (back), LB Ernie Sims (groin), and defensive end DeMarcus Ware (back).

Claiborne has said he won’t play, and Lee could be done for the season.

Limited in practice were linebacker Bruce Carter (hamstring), defensive tackle Jason Hatcher (neck), and defensive end Jarius Wynn (chest).

If the Cowboys lose to the Redskins and the Eagles beat the Bears on Sunday night, the Week 17 Philly visit to Dallas will become the Third Annual NFC East Championship game. If Dallas wins or Philly loses, the winner in Week 17 goes to the playoffs — and the loser goes home.

In the Cowboys’ case, it’s hard not to imagine them going home the following week, after the wild-card round. If they even get there.

If Philly win this week, and Dallas loses, week 17 is irrelevant…

As bad as their defense has been all year, I don’t think it will make a difference.

If the Eagles beat Chicago and Dallas falls to Washington, wouldn’t the Eagles clinch the division? (9-6 record vs 7-8 going into Week 17)

If the cowboys lose to the redskins and the eagles beat the bears, the cowboys will be 7-8 and the eagles will be 9-6, making well 17’s game irrelevant

Just a point of fact: If the Cowboys lose to the Redskins, they would be 7-8; if the Eagles beat the Bears, they would be 9-6 — in which case, the game in Dallas would be meaningless, it would not be for the division. The Eagles would already have won the division at that point.

You might as well not put a defense on the field at this point.

It is doubtful that the replacements, whoever they may be, could be worse than the team that played Chicago.

Monte Kiffin offered his support saying he had complete confidence in the traffic pylons that would be filling in for the injured defensive staff.

“Couldn’t get worse, what we lose in mobility with the pylons we make up in lost yards for pass interference penalties.”
