Redskins claim J.D. Walton off waivers

Robert Griffin III isn’t going to take a snap again for the Redskins this year, but he might get a chance to see one from one of his old teammates.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Redskins claimed center J.D. Walton, who was released by the Broncos yesterday.

Walton used to snap for Griffin at Baylor, and will give the Redskins another blocker to choose from for the next two weeks and perhaps beyond.

Walton was a solid player before a broken ankle in 2012, and though the Broncos activated him from the physically unable to perform list, he didn’t play this year. The former third-round pick is worth a look to see if he’s approaching health.

    I’m going to laugh when Dallas loses to the Redskins this weekend. You KNOW Kirk will be ready.

    good pickup. He’d still be a bronco if it weren’t for the injuries to the d-line and needing to sign another player. funny how the nfl works like that

    Pro football focus graded him out as the worst center back in 2011, he didn’t play last year or this year.

    Really don’t care what PFF says, dude was a solid center until the joke land raiders turned his foot around facing the wrong way. Bummed we had to let him go.

    Just in case no on knows, he is not, and was never GOOD or SOLID. He misses blocks like crazy, and of all the sacks that Peyton absorbed before Walton went out on injury, was from missed assignments of Walton. Not good, not even average. He is done in the NFL.

    A busted pick by Hoodie Jr. Josh McDaniels. Reminds me of the time he traded a 1st round draft pick to Seattle for their 2nd round draft pick who he picked Alphonso Smith with then cut him less than a year later. Boy genius.

    @randyschwimmer7 –
    Walton allowed only three sacks in 619 pass plays while missing just one snap during his rookie campaign.
