D’Qwell Jackson says Winslow won’t be much of a threat

Jackson AP

On Thursday, Jets tight end Kellen Winslow said that no one on his former team, the Browns, can guard him.  On Friday, a member of his former team responded.

“He doesn’t play a whole lot so he’s not gonna be much of a threat for us,” linebacker D’Qwell Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  “It’s gonna be a fun game.  Both teams, we want to win the game and K-2, he likes to talk.  We understand that, but in all seriousness, the guys who are gonna be on the field, we worry about those guys.”

Jackson, who played three years with Winslow in Cleveland, said more about Winslow’s lack of playing time and abundance of talking time.

“It’s no secret K-2 likes to run his mouth a lot and I’m happy he’s with a team and he’s doing well but we’ve game planned towards the guys who are going to be on the field,” Jackson said.  “He doesn’t play a whole lot so I’m not going to get caught up in a guy that’s watching the game for most of the time that his offense is out there on the field so I’m not worried about K-2.  That’s the type of personality that he is.  Him and I are good friends and I knew something was gonna come out this week from him at some point so I’m sure I’ll see him during out pregame warm ups and we’ll talk but I’m used to K-2 and his ways.”

Safety Tashaun Gipson said Winslow’s words didn’t even register with the locker room.

“If Calvin Johnson said it, that’s different,” Gipson said.  “[Winslow] can say what he wants to say.  He’s still got to go out there and perform and what he does Sunday I guess will tell it all. . . .  You’re supposed to have that confidence. I respect him for speaking up and saying something like that.  If you want to stay successful, you’ve got to have that kind of confidence so I tip my hat off to him, even having the courage to say that.”

Winslow has had the courage to say plenty of things during his career, starting with his “I’m a f–king soldier” rant at the University of Miami.  And he’s had the courage to do plenty of things, culminating in motorcycle tricks that wrecked his knee and derailed a potential Hall of Fame career nearly nine years ago.

Saying Winslow had a potential hall of fame career is like saying Mark Sanchez had a potential hall of fame career.

    He’s still playing?

I’m a long time Canes fan…and Winslow had “it.”

But the he was too dumb to protect, cultivate and use “it”

Regrets, he’ll have more than few.

I ordered a Kellen Winslow Jets jersey and instead of an order confirmation the email just read ‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!’.

    Winslow’s 2013 stats –

    10 games, 2 starts, 27 receptions, 319 yards, 2 TDs

Yeah “nobody can cover him” all right.

    Kellen Winslow…?

Oh yeah, I remember him. He played a few years back and showed some promise but it never really panned out. Whatever happened to him?

Perfect response…maybe Kellen was just trying to buy some more snaps?

Winslow’s taken too many shots to the head.

“My teammate said something equally stupid last week and we got housed, so clearly the best course of action is to do the exact same thing”

    Why would you…I don’t even…. *sigh*.

I really hate to comment on this nonsense, because it gives K2 the Entitled the attention he desires.

Maybe he would throw the GM under the bus but that’s considered suicide!!!

K2 has great hands and poor route running!

Translation? He can’t hold K1’s jock strap!

Kellen Winslow is still in the league?

D’Quell Jackson is just a high class individual. I’m so glad the Browns drafted this guy, he’s one of the few picks they got right. In my opinion, he is very underrated. I am personally proud of all these guys and despite their record, thing they’re on the cusp of something great…there finally SEEMS to be a plan in place.

  19. raiders85 says: Dec 21, 2013 6:46 AM

What a waste K2 is his own worst enemy he honestly should be on the Browns still I remember him getting injured against Dallas on a onside kick and it just spirals out of control after that sad he has no one to blame but himself and that motorcycle

  20. uglydingo says: Dec 21, 2013 6:51 AM

Be very careful not to poke the tiger, D’Qwell. He may be aged and wear different jerseys but K-2 is a legend and icon in Cleveland. He will always be remembered as the Browns f-king soldier.
His bravery is only matched by his undying ego (and his coach recognizes a truly great ego when he sees one).

Winslow: Hall of Fame mouth on a journeyman player.

I guess 2013 has two Mr. Irrelevants…but only one is going to the annual party.

  24. cowpiesnotcowboys says: Dec 21, 2013 10:11 AM

Maybe Winslow can spend some of those millions that he never earned to but D’Quell a real name.

  25. medialovesthecowboys says: Dec 21, 2013 11:15 AM

Winslow could have been a beast. Instead he’ll be the second best Kellen Winslow to play the game. Shame.

  26. varnbo says: Dec 21, 2013 11:30 AM

Potential Hall of Fame Career. What do you pass that statement on?

I guess by your standards any player drafted high is considered potential Hall of Fame material.

  27. dws123 says: Dec 21, 2013 12:23 PM

Winslow’s career has reached a point where his comments garner nothing more than complete apathy. That’s embarrassing.

  28. w2lucky says: Dec 21, 2013 12:55 PM

    Mr. Winslow,
You’ve been nothing but “mouth” since you came to the pros. Sir, I’m a soldier and get paid dirt. You are lucky to be in the NFL and get paid millions. Big difference. Shut up and be grateful.

  29. kwjsb says: Dec 21, 2013 6:54 PM

K2 career is similar to a friend of mine in college.
My friend was a genius, he didn’t need to study, things came naturally, unfortunately he thought life would come naturally so he never attended classes, and smoke way too much weed, Now he makes 25K with a million dollar mind
Just a waste, just like Winslow
