Kwame Harris gets jail time for assault

Harris

Former 49ers offensive lineman Kwame Harris is going to jail for assault. But not for very long.

Via KGO-TV, a California judge has sentenced Harris to five days behind bars and three years of probation on misdemeanor domestic violence, battery, and assault charges. He also must complete 104 hours of domestic violence counseling.

Last month, a jury convicted Harris of the charges, acquitting him on more serious felony counts.

Harris became upset when his ex-boyfriend, Dmitri Geier, poured soy sauce on a plate of rice. Things escalated, and Harris Harris allegedly tried to pull down Geier’s pants and accused Geier of stealing Harris’ underwear.

A first-round pick in 2003, Harris spent five years with the 49ers and one with the Raiders. He acknowledged his sexual orientation in March 2013, and he expressed regret that he wasn’t able to come out during his playing career.
