As the Bears prepare for face the Eagles, they have a distraction that isn’t as much of a distraction as it could have been.

The team has issued a statement acknowledging reports that defensive tackle Henry Melton has been arrested in Texas.  Melton has been injured since September.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Henry Melton,” the team said in a statement issued Sunday afternoon.  “We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.”

Earlier today, Michael C. Wright of ESPN.com reported that Melton was arrested in Texas for public intoxication and assault.  Via CBS Chicago,  Melton became “combative” when asked to leave a bar.  Ultimately, a manager at the bar was struck.

Melton, who is with the Bears under the franchise tag, tore an ACL in September.  It’s safe to say the Bears won’t be using the franchise tag on him again.

    This is why he isn’t a Steeler.

    Franchise tag + injured reserve + arrest = uh oh.

    I’m a big fan of Melton, but when you take into consideration all the other players at the end of their contracts, and knowing that the Bears can’t afford to resign all of them, the chances of Melton being a Bear next year is all but out the window at this point.

    At least he wasn’t a blow dealer like a certain other Bear.

    At least he punches bar managers instead of girlfriends and mothers. Brandon could learn something from this guy.

    Who else thinks that Cutler AND Tressman need to traded?

    It should say need to be traded

    @imissmcmahon85:

    Not me…I am excited at what Trestman has accomplished in his first year, despite some rookie mistakes. The pathetic defense isn’t all on him, Mel Tucker and injuries contributed to the meltdown more than anything.

    And Cutler is better than any QB we’ve had since Jimmy Mac left.
