Clay Matthews suffers thumb injury, return questionable

Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews is questionable to re-enter Sunday’s game vs. Pittsburgh after suffering a thumb injury, the club said.

Matthews appeared to be favoring his right arm after sacking Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the second quarter.

Matthews missed time earlier this season with a right thumb injury.

Packers inside linebacker Brad Jones (ankle) has also been termed questionable to re-enter the game, according to the club.

The Packers lead Pittsburgh 14-7 late in the second quarter.

I guess this means it’s time for B.J. Raji to show the Packers organization they rewarded a contract extension to the wrong player.

Maybe he can get his street clothes on and go sit with that other softie Rodgers.

Steroids really do a number on the human body after time.

  15. contra74 says: Dec 22, 2013 5:51 PM

Favre would have played with a broken thumb and he would have registered 8 sacks.

  16. boomboombrown says: Dec 22, 2013 5:58 PM

    Soft thumb, soft player.

  17. usdcoyotesfan says: Dec 22, 2013 5:59 PM

Packers fan here. Tape your thumb to the rest of your hand and get back out there, Clay!

Mathews leaves with a sore thumb..Meanwhile,Ray Nitchke is turning in his grave.

  19. bkunza says: Dec 22, 2013 6:10 PM

It’s not like they’re losing a linebacker. Someone else can rush the passer.

  20. ghostrider45 says: Dec 22, 2013 6:24 PM

Mean while the stealers will take another cheap shot on someone to turn the tide of this game…. hey if you can’t beatem …. cheatem… right?

  21. joelubke says: Dec 22, 2013 6:24 PM

He had an appointment at his hair salon.

  22. packermama says: Dec 22, 2013 6:25 PM

Tough loss of a tough player. It makes me think of what could happen to Aaron if he came back too soon. All comments that he is a soft player are so lame. I doubt there is a person on this forum who is half as tough as even the average NFL player.

Favre also can’t remember his kids soccer games.

  24. contra74 says: Dec 22, 2013 6:37 PM

All game long #70 on the packers oline keeps false starting. Gets out if his stance before the snap and no call.

  25. contra74 says: Dec 22, 2013 6:39 PM

Refs clearly helping the packers. Third times a charm in helping them score after that blocked fg.

  26. logiclevoicesays says: Dec 22, 2013 6:41 PM

That TD after the blocked FG was a JOKE. Fine the refs. League want The Fudge in the playoffs.

  27. doctorrustbelt says: Dec 22, 2013 6:42 PM

When did being PRO-Clean Athletics become being a hater?!?

    Sad.

  28. douglasgreenbriar says: Dec 22, 2013 6:45 PM

Looks like the referees are trying to give the Packers this one.

Hopefully they only give the Packers one free touchdown.

  29. johngaltwho says: Dec 22, 2013 6:58 PM

Packers are done. Ted Thompson was unwilling to allow them a chance to go to the playoffs. They will appropriately limp into the offseason. Just 4 months to the draft.

  30. contra74 says: Dec 22, 2013 7:05 PM

Seriously, the packers have a set of plays specific to the refs. This game lost all credibilit.

  31. tellmeaboutitbaby says: Dec 22, 2013 7:16 PM

It is so obvious that the Refs have their marching orders from the NFL to cheat in any way possible to keep the Packers in the game!!!

  32. taintedsaints2009 says: Dec 22, 2013 7:32 PM

You know what’s funny? The packers continue suffering injuries left and right…and they were still in it to win the division. The Vikings have next to no injuries all year besides one or two, and they are a dumpster.

  33. taintedsaints2009 says: Dec 22, 2013 7:33 PM

Also, the officiating in the NFL is just horrendous. So many blown calls that were not even close!

  34. packerfansarefat says: Dec 22, 2013 8:05 PM

ya…like the call that gave the packers the ball back and allowed the game to even be close?….

  35. packhawk04 says: Dec 22, 2013 8:21 PM

Fake punt may have been worse. Two gaurds were 20 yards downfield before the ball was thrown. No illegal reciever downfield though…

  36. cobaltdriver says: Dec 22, 2013 9:23 PM

Looks like Contra is back from Grandmas..or is it just GB losing that brings him out of the sewer??

  37. thejuddstir says: Dec 22, 2013 10:21 PM

Is it the same thumb that Clay likes to suck on since he got off the juice?

  38. scbaby2013 says: Dec 23, 2013 3:41 AM

Packers aren’t going anywhere. I would shut clay down for season and get a healthy squad for next yr. great player none the less
