Orakpo may miss the last game of his contract

As Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo closes in on the final game of his 2009 rookie contract, Orakpo already may have played the final game of his 2009 rookie contract.

He could miss Sunday’s regular-season finale due to a groin injury suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys.

“[I’m] limited,” Orakpo told Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com. “We’ll see as the week progresses. I’m pretty banged up. It’s just one of those type strain injuries that you have to deal with.”

The Redskins possibly will have to deal with Orakpo wisely choosing to protect himself as he approaches the open market.

“We’ll see; I’m not going to be stupid,” Orakpo said. “If I feel good, I’m going to try and give it a go. . . . You just got to be smart, man, you don’t want to be stupid, especially with the season not going as well for us so far.”

The 13th pick of the 2009 draft, Orakpo has started every game this year after being limited to two games in 2012 with a pectoral injury. He has 10 sacks, one short of his career high of 11, which came in his rookie year.
