Romo wants to play but likely can’t

As the Packers continue to wait for the green light to play their franchise quarterback who broke a collarbone seven weeks and one day ago, the Cowboys continue to project a belief that their franchise quarterback will be able to suit up Sunday night with a herniated disc in his back.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, Romo wants to play with a herniated disc but most likely can’t.

Maybe the Cowboys hold out hope for a miracle of the Christmas and/or Festivus variety.  Or maybe they want to inject a little doubt into Philly’s defensive preparations.  Or maybe the Cowboys doctors are more willing to tilt the risk-reward analysis toward letting Romo take a Toradol shot and play because in Dallas (unlike Green Bay) there’s an owner who can remind the doctors that if they get in the habit of not letting players play then the Cowboys may be getting in the habit of finding another doctor to doctor.

While the folks at ESPN acknowledge that the Cowboys have yet to officially shut down Romo, the report that he won’t play is as strong as it can be.  Until the Cowboys officially shut Romo down, however, it’s impossible to say with 100-percent certainty that he’s done.

  1. Cowboys with a smoke screen. Chip and the Eagles aren’t buying it. Romo will not be playing. Either way, the Eagles will win the game by a landslide.

  2. I don’t think Jerry would risk the career of his franchise qb for a slim, very slim, chance to make the playoffs.
If so, he has less football smarts than I gave him credit for.

  3. Does it really matter one way or the other if Romo plays or not? If they win they will be one and done in the playoffs. If they lose the playoffs will certainly be more entertaining.

The Cowboys are irrelevant and have been for years.

    U DA MAN JERRY !!!!!!!

  4. The Cowboys didn’t report his injury last week, and are now trying to put the genie back into the bottle with the NFL.

As further evidence, after the game on Sunday, Garrett called it a “foot injury.”

  5. WOW !! And with an important game on the line. Looking for a back-up QB in week #17. Got to be ready for this coming Sunday night. Oh, and did I mention that The Philadelphia Eagles are coming to town…..

  6. I still don’t get the supposed difficulty about defenses preparing for two different QB’s.

If they assume that Orton is playing and Romo trots out on the field are they going to freak out? OMG, what do we do!!!! It’s not the one we expected!!!! We are doomed!!!!!

  7. Do you get the feeling that Jerry is jealous of all the attention Tampa got earlier in the season, then Miami monopolized it for a while, and of course those stinkin Reskins took over and no one was paying attention to Jerry. It wasn’t fair.

  8. This forces Dallas to a actually run the ball. Murray is a beast when given the chance. Eagles should not go into this thinking it’s going to be a cake walk, regardless of the fact that the Dallas defense couldn’t stop a 10 year old Pop Warner team. If they establish a running game and keep the Birds offense off of the field, you just never know……

  9. this is a spine we are talking about here. One bad hit and he is in serious trouble. look at the play where he was hurt. It was a trip and stumble and an awkward step. If that is enough to cause that injury imagine a big ole 320 lb sack happening

  10. The Alice Cowgirls are and will continue to be the sporadic mess they have been until Jerry Jones is gone.
Who cares? Even when they were a decent team, they sucked. Nice cheerleaders, though. America’s Cheerleaders. That’s all, folks!

  11. If he has a herniated or bulging disc, he can barely stand up straight. When I had it I likened the pain to someone possibly stabbing me in the butt with a very sharp object. and that’s just half the pain, all the back muscles stiffin up and you can’t hardly move. Playing on Sunday? Get real. Laying on the couch is painful, everything is painful.

  12. Play a guy with a herniated disc, a nerve running along it and a chance of paralysis buy even the smallist hit. I think its just smoke screen. Jerry can’t be that crazy.
Jones must know if he lets the guy play and he gets permanently injured its on him. The league may run him out of town .
