David Carr and John Skelton will have some company as they vie for a spot on the Cowboys roster in the wake of Tony Romo’s back injury.
While no one is officially willing to rule Romo out for the Week 17 game against the Eagles or anything else, the Cowboys are signing a third quarterback in the event they have to shut their starter down. Carr and Skelton will be joined by Tyler Thigpen, according to a report by Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Thigpen confirmed to the Myrtle Beach Sun News.
Thigpen was with the Bills last season, but hasn’t been able to find any work during the 2013 season. He did have a tryout with the Rams after Sam Bradford’s injury, but the Rams decided to sign Brady Quinn instead.
We’ll likely find out later on Tuesday which guy the Cowboys choose even as they continue to hope that they won’t need Kyle Orton or anybody else not named Romo at quarterback on Sunday night.
