Browns bring back Brian Sanford

The Browns opened up a roster spot when wide receiver Davone Bess was placed on the non-football injury list and they’ve filled it by bringing back a former member of the team.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the team has reached agreement on a two-year deal with defensive end Brian Sanford. Sanford spent the last three years with the Browns, playing in six games with five tackles over that span. He was traded to the Seahawks for guard John Moffitt during the summer, but returned to Cleveland after the Browns rescinded the trade because of concerns over Moffitt’s physical.

Sanford was cut at the end of August and wound up in Oakland, where he played five games and started once while shuffling on and off the Raiders’ active roster for most of the season.

Nose tackle Phil Taylor has a concussion and defensive end John Hughes has a knee injury, which leaves the Brown a little banged up on the defensive line heading into Week 17. Sanford’s familiar with the team’s defensive scheme, so he could wind up seeing some action before embarking on the offseason with the team.
