Clay Matthews listed as out for Week 17

The Aaron Rodgers decision is coming Thursday, but the Packers don’t need to wait to get out the word regarding linebacker Clay Matthews.

The Packers didn’t practice on Wednesday, but they did list an injury report estimating what players would have done in an actual practice. Matthews, who reinjured his right thumb against the Steelers, was listed as out for Sunday’s game.

It was the expected result after coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews had suffered a “repeat” injury to the thumb, which he fractured in April. The injury kept him out for four games so this may be the end of the 2013 season for Matthews even if it doesn’t turn out to be the end of the season for the Packers.

Linebackers Mike Neal, Brad Jones and Nick Perry wouldn’t have practiced according to the report, so the Packers aren’t in ideal shape at the position heading into Sunday’s NFC North-deciding matchup with the Bears. Running back Eddie Lacy, who tweaked his injured ankle against Pittsburgh, also was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday.
