Redskins place Nick Barnett on injured reserve

Nick Barnett’s first season with the Redskins has come to an end.

Barnett was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday after tearing his MCL during last Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Barnett signed with the Redskins before the season after several years as a starter in Green Bay and Buffalo. Barnett was a reserve in Washington and played on special teams, finishing the year with 12 tackles.

He’ll be a free agent again this offseason, with the fact that he turns 33 in May joining his injury to likely keep him from being a top option on the open market.

The Redskins promoted linebacker Will Compton from the practice squad to fill Barnett’s spot on the roster. The team also signed linebacker Adrian Robinson, who has played for the Steelers, Eagles, Broncos and Chargers since the start of training camp. Washington had another open roster spot after placing tight end Jordan Reed on injured reserve last week.
